Estimated shipping date according to PMK: Q1 2018... If we order NOW :p :p

No, but seriously, I hope that either PMK gets their **** together or we find someone else that can make SA caps.

They have their junk together, they are busy with more than just molding custom key sets for Group Buys. They have corporate orders too, like this Filco set:

If their order backlog is 8-10 months (or more) on the SA tooling then it's hard to make the case that they have it together.  I mean, come on...

When the demand is this high for this long and shows no sign of stopping, basic economics says you either increase your manufacturing capacity or you lose business to competitors.  To their credit, maybe SP is expanding to meet the demand.  But they need to communicate that or just hurry the hell up.  The fact that they're filling big corporate orders isn't an excuse -- the corporate money is just as good as ours (though their orders might be bigger) and I guarantee they're having to wait longer too.  That's not acceptable.

On topic: Nice to see Nuclear Data making a return.  It's a great set.

WOOOOO!!!! I'm in too! I already have the nuclear data (OAS and VV) relegendables on my Access IS ready to go!  :thumb:

Will there be an ortholinear add-on kit this time around? I really need those 1U modifiers to make it all work as a cohesive set.

Also... it's going to be uniform row three again for maximum compatibility, right? If it's fully sculpted I think I'll cry...

This is a great set!

If there's any extras over and above what was in the original set, can someone highlight them please :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I could be wrong, but this set has been out of stock on PMK for well over a year more like two.  Now just waiting for the good man to tell us when to open the coffers. :p

Well that's a good sign for the long-term availability of custom keycaps, anyhow.

Did you do the specials and kits, or did they?

Hi Matt3o, I think you're aware of SA keycaps from China right? They are running a GB on Taobao right now, shipping February. Not sure what we can do but I don't think SP monopoly on this is a good thing.

Of course I would support an original author like you. But since SP holds monopoly over SA keycaps and their priority for commercial clients over GB like us make the wait unbearable.

If only we had another reliable SA manufacturer.

There were once many alternative suppliers for full-height "SA-style" keycaps.  Made in the USA, too.  Then everyone decided that $5 was the right amount to spend on the only part of a computer that requires tactile feedback all day. And so all but very few of the US manufacturers were driven out of the country or out of business.

The fact that SP survived at all is wonderful.  And the fact that now they have enough business to keep the factory running is fantastic.  This was not the case when Nuclear Data Green was first produced.  Some of the molds had to be found in nooks and crannies as very few people were interested in the original designs.

So, as people who appreciate the sweet goodness of proper keyboards, we should celebrate SP's success.  And perhaps pause to remember that we are asking a custom plastic molding factory with decades of history to stop what it is doing and satisfy our immediate cravings.  Go try to get Unicomp (née IBM Keyboards) to do that for you!

Some GeekHack history from 07 March 2014.

Such lovely things, now shiny and new, are worth the wait.

Such lovely things, now shiny and new, are worth the wait.

Very well said. I found a set on the market, bought them.  Loved them, then sold them...  I don't know why.  I miss that green shine.

Flag for the Radioactive Kit  ;D

Ahem I guess you are aware that most (if not all) of SP's SA tooling is coming from France after competition killed the last company here? There was even a case of sabotage of the repurchase of the company that leaded to the definitive closing and selling of the tooling.
Sometimes it sounds like North Korea propaganda here :)) I agree to the rest, SP are doing great with the community, which could also benefit from concurrence and faster production.

Just wanted to say that the set of keycaps I got from the original GB are on a very short list of sets I will never sell.  They are amazing.  I am patiently awaiting the chance to get another set, no matter how long it takes.
