Hello all!

I am in the process of designing/creating my first keyboard. Its a reduced version of the ErgoDox and I'm going to Hand Wire it.

Here is my layout:

Here is my plate layout already sent for cutting, collecting tomorrow: (Using wood first while prototyping)

Here is my basic part list:

- Broken quickfire with mx blues, salvaging for keys.
- (Need to get diodes)
- 2 x Arduino Pro Micro
- 2 x usb micro breakout boards
- 2 x TRRS jacks
- 1 x TRRS cable
- 1 x micro usb cable
- 1 x patience

My main obstacle atm:

How do I wire each side of the split to the controller?
How do I wire the controllers to communicate with each other?
I am following this guide for the hand wiring: http://imgur.com/a/qcgdF
Basically I am looking for a guide on how to hand wire a Let's Split keyboard using Pro Micro's.

What diodes are save to use? I need a few models, since availability is a real challenge here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I think you will need to go to your local RadioShack and pick up alot more patience. You need x100.

Ah, we don't have a RadioShack here in South Africa. So I'll have to do with 1x patience. Looking forward to building though!

Just need proper wiring guide for the Let's Split.

What diodes?
1N4148. This shop ships worldwide. Be aware that shippings from China might take several weeks to deliver.

Thanks!
However I am trying to source the parts locally... I will have to find an alternative to that diode model.

UPDATE:

- Got my head around the wiring, so that is sorted... For now. :D

- Received the CM quickfire with mx blues donor kb. Love the keys!
- Found a place locally that stocks 1N14448 diodes. Which I read are fine for my application.
- And these are ready to go:

Buying the pro micros and diodes tomorrow. So this weekend I can hopefully salvage all the keys and get the keys in. Might make time to get some of the diodes done as well.

I did a split keyboard about 2 month ago, but I didn't want to bother with an I/0 extender and more electronic components. So I just used an HDMI cable (it has enough wires) to extend the grid from one side to the other. Basically just wire your grid layout, then continue the lines through the HDMI and wire the columns of the side without the chip to the hdmi then to the chip.
Pros : less components.
Cons : fatter cable, more soldering, harder to do an "unpluggable" cable (mine is fixed).

Thanks you for the idea! For this prototypr im going to use the 2 micro controllers, as I want it as compact as possible for now.

However, I am planning a staggered split like the Barocco. Which will not need to travel to I can add some hdmi ports on there. I was looking at so many cable options like a ethernet cable etc, don't know why I didn't think of an hdmi cable.

Here is the current progress:
All keys are salvaged from the quickfire. Was quite a job, but got less tricky here at the end, like all jobs... xD

Just a quick mockup, still deciding on black or white spray for the mdf? It needs a coat of paint and sealant, as the material and moisture does not go well together.

Hi,

would you mind sharing the SVG files for the switch plate?

Cheers

Holy smokes. Another South African. I literally thought I was the only one that found mechanical keyboards interesting.
