Blendtec vs Vitamix
« on: Wed, 03 December 2014, 19:39:39 »
Ok.. So now I've thoroughly evaluated both..  and every other 1500 watt blender on the market..

Ever since the Vitamix Black dust fiasco.. I've since went through them ALL..

Just got the blendtec..  Yup.. Rubber dust..

The Jar on the Blendtec is a toy compared to the Vitamix..   However..... the vitamix produces more black dust..

THe Blendtec base pulls more power from the wall..  but I can't really tell if it's m0re powerful..

I think the blendtec motor is probably a chinese motor.

I took apart the Vitamix, and indeed the motor is a swedish motor.. laser engraved.

I can't help myself in asking about the Vitamix, but will it blend?

Blendtec because I like their videos. IMO both are unnecessary and overpriced since I just buy the $14.99 blenders from Big Lots, use them once or twice, then just toss them. I've found I only use the blender a handful of times a year so this way is technically much more cost effective.Saves you from cleaning them too!

If you time it right sometimes you can get them BOGO. I have 4 blenders in my closet right now :))

I lust deeply for a Blendtek and look forward to the day when I can own one. It is my Model F of a blender. Everything else is just a toy.

I will have to buy two. There is absolutely no way I could own one of those without dropping random objects into it until it stopped working.

The vitamix blade hub is built much better...  however, the best blade hub i've seen so far is the "cleanblend- blade hub.. all japan"  however, the cleanblend blender itself is a piece of ****.. it started putting out blue smoke only the 8th time I used it..

Ok after some thorough testing..

The Blendtec is absolutely Epic Fail..

There is too much "exposed" rubber..

Which means.. if you blend anything that may be hard,  like ice..

The ice will act like grinding chips against the rubber encased central post..

So.. if at any point you run this machine a bit too dry, or with enough sturdy hard stuff,   the rubber post will disintegrate INTO the blend..

So.....  sigh.........................

What about the Ninja blenders?

dah... that thing is probably "the worst" out of the blenders I've tried..

The large center post.. when you do that, you lose tons of power because now you're distributing it up where it's not needed.

The transfer mechanism is also plastic.. that's bound to crack after some heat-stress..

There's also been numerous reports of the internals shaft cracking around the blade..

THe issue is.. I feel ALL of these blenders could be fixed.. but somewhere, cost became an issue even at $300-600,  and they just went,  oh well...

I've heard unless you're doing nut butters just use a cheapo. More money for other things, like a sous vide cooker.

If you want to make "smoothies" that are truly smooth then you need a lot of speed and horsepower. Low-power blenders chop fruit up into "pulp" but the chunks are still large. If you can get all the pieces down to extremely small sizes, you get the true benefits of fiber without having to eat bushels of chaff.

I don't think it will be smooth.. but i'm quite sure it will blend to a degree.. would take a LONG while before the particle size gets small enough to be edible though..

I don't think it actually happened; I think it is an urban legend started by their marketing department

I'm thinking of getting the refurbished blendtec from Walmart for $249.99, I've got ~$180 in gift cards to use.

You can get a NEW blendtec for $250 at costco, and it comes with that long warranty

I wouldn't bother getting the used one.. "though technically, they all come with new jars"

Usage scenarios..

If you're making lots of "liquid-y" stuff.. I would wait for the vitamix sales.. refurb 5yr warranty ~$300

If you're making mostly "sludg-ee" stuff.. They both work equally well.

The LID on the blendtec is a bit harder to work with.. so if you do LARGE VOLUMEs all the time,  Go with the vitamix..

We have a Blendtec and use it 3-5 times per week. We love it. Grinds up anything way smoother than anything we've ever used before (cheapos, Ninjas).

I think the Ninja is in principle a superior design..

But the center shaft should've really been made out of steel..

The plastic coupling is just.. sigh.....

Closest Costco is over an hour away and the refurb has a 7 year warranty.

It's up to you.. I'm just saying if the cost difference is negligible, why risk the "cooties"

also.. the "lid" issue is really important.. if you're going to be spinning ALOT, get the vitamix

I was making large batches of soy-milk,  and it was more time consuming using the blendtec lid system.
