I've been meaning to organize something but I've been busy for a while then it just trailed off.
But I figure we should seriously look into it this time.
We need everyone to tell me a few things.
1. Time, do you prefer spring or summer? (Basically pick a time within the next 5 months)
2. Where to meet? I haven't contact Matias yet so I don't know if they can give us another tour, but even so would you guys prefer another tour or just do our own thing?
I know generally the limitation with Matias is that they only open weekdays, but if we do our own thing then we can pick weekends which might be better for some.
Anyway leave us a comment and let me know what you think !

Though the carpool sheet isn't posted, I'd be willing to split gas/carpool with a few folks in my small ass Ford Focus five seater. I'd prefer to pickup at a major station/mall though that's not downtown, I'm not a fan of driving in DT Toronto especially with Pan Ams on around that time.
Since I have to pick up my fiancé from downtown I think I can cover downtown. LOL though I wouldn't worry now I'm pretty sure we'll have people from all over the city. :P

It should fit. It looks smaller than my gym bag and that takes up maybe a third of my trunk space... But I wouldn't take that as license to bring another similarly sized bag. :))

Basically the plan is that we'll arrive between 12:30 to 1:00, at 1:00 they'll start serving pizza.
1:00 ~ 2:00 is social and pizza time.
2:00 is when the main event starts. Then they'll give us presentation/tour .... etc like how it was last time, and after the presentation/tour portion is done then everyone can bust out their keyboard we geek out until whatever time we want.
I'm assuming maybe 3 hours or so then after we can head out for drink/dinner.

We’ll have some empty counters/tables set up for people to bring their own cool keyboards and display them, and Edgar will be showing some prototype keyboards and getting some opinions from the group, to influence our R&D direction.

I actually like the clack on the upstroke. He left before a lot of us had a chance to try it, he had Toxic non yellow mods on it.
The Leopold had great Topre as well. HHKB is good too, but the Nova and Leo impressed me the most.

Some of the 'imperfections' were a bit subtle to the uneducated eye,
I prefer to think she was joshing us, rather than that I ended up with the wrong one. :P
Still - as we all noticed, they were impossible to see and touch without envy and perhaps some other sins coming to mind - I can only hope that noko can balance her time, energy, materials, health, etc... as inevitably the demand for her work rises over time.
Accidentally intruding upon the instrument-maker in the warehouse, I was reminded of the story (it's short - I swear!) of the guitar-maker in the 70s who had his workflows analyzed professionally to see what he could do differently to increase production, save work, increase revenue, etc... Unfortunately, the main result and the consequences stemmed from producing more of the simplest pieces for more people to drive revenue, and consequently cutting out the interesting projects with all the time, effort and problems they spawned.
While the interesting projects were the motivating and fun ones for that artisan, fortunately, he was already well known and was not tight for cash at all so he was able to choose to follow nearly none of the advice of the consultant at all. He continued to operate with a horrible waiting time, but more or less give each customer precisely what they wanted, charging relatively fairly for labour and materials. This even generated a good balance of complex and simple work so that he could mull the fun issues, while working on some of the dull (but not overly trance-inducing) tasks on the simple pieces.
Custom, artisan work doesn't go 'out' the way other fads do, so I expect that long after keyboards have gone back to 'useful' rather than cool (not claiming obsolescence), there will be similar niches to tool up and have some fun with. I somewhat expect that this is as true for the key-casters, painters, restorers, and the rest of us as it is for leather.
Here's hoping you find that balance sooner, rather than later Noko.

I believe it was a type of topre with super sculpted high profile caps? I didn't like how much it sucked my fingers into the caps. Not 100% on the switch type though. Iirc it felt like light topre.

PS: scoping SeeThruHead's NovaTouch this aft... tiny vias are a pita to instrument, but getting there. Not sure what I'm hoping for - a fast scan, or a normal scan. To outward appearances, it's just another Topre (branded even) PCB.

I got my first blank white/grey from Japan when the yen was low. Here's a potato of how it looks now, all symmetrical n stuff.
The 30g is an old pro 1 in black printed I got on yahoo auctions cheap. Then modded with the jis 10th ann. I think I'm modding back cause 30g hhkb is not my fav but I like it in realforce boards.
EK is a safe bet if you're looking for new. Or if used you could get a good deal on GH.

Kinda upset but I ended up having a ball hockey tournament in St. Catharines so I was unable to go. Looks like it was a lot of fun and not impressed that I missed out. Hopefully more things can happen in the near future.

(Edit: I realized it doesn't make sense for me to quote the price in USD to most of you because this was a Toronto meet up, let's go with an even $38CAD as the price). What I need from you in the PM: what size keyboard, if you want a pocket, and what colours/styles you like. I try to only make 1 or 2 of each case fabric so that they're unique.

I have already tried the following Cherry switches:
Blue - These probably had the best feel of the ones I've tried, but I'd prefer a little more resistance at the tactile point, without increasing the spring stiffness. Also a little too loud for the office.
Green - OK tactility (could still be better), but spring a little too stiff for prolonged typing. Ditto for noise.
Brown - Can barely feel the tactile point at all. It just feels like a less smooth linear switch to me.
Black/Red - I need tactility, so I hate linear switches.
Honestly, still I prefer the best rubber dome keyboards (Thermaltake esports Commander, Cooler Master Storm Devastator, Logitech PerfectStroke) to any of the above mechanical switches I've tried, durability issues notwithstanding. I'm thinking I would like Matias though - I just need my fingers to verify before I buy. I'm assuming I can't just show up at the Matias warehouse lol. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Core downtown would definitely be better, especially for me since I'm from London and take a greyhound to get to Toronto

Unless it's right near a subway station. Parking is always a nightmare downtown but I'd be more than happy to leave the car at home if it's easily accessible by subway, especially if the weather is bad.
