Hi, If i buy this keyboard, do i have to install all the switches by my self and put keycaps on? is there a video show how to do it?
Or is there a completed version of this keyboard that i can just buy it?
Sorry im newbie :(

You have to bring your own switches and stabilizers and do the soldering yourself. Alternatively you can look for someone to do the soldering for you. This is a VERY high value board so sending it to someone for soldering is taking a HIGH risk.
Completed, built versions of this board will probably be a LOT more expensive on the aftermarket.

Surely you would only have to post the plate and PCB if you were getting someone else to assemble?
about to hit the order button when I realized, I'd like to know how the Silver-Case option looks like with the LEDs lit up... any pics of that?
No 100% sure how to order lol... if I order one without select "Extra PCB + Plate" do I still get a PCB and plate? Also what is SS?? Thanks

Order now. This GB is limited to 100pc. You can still change colors later if you must.

I haven't seen any HHKB style with a 6.25 spacebar
Pretty much all of the ones I have seen use a 7u
ok done... went with black viper... probably gonna stick with that unless silver looks that much better...
EDIT: PS: Anybody got a Viper / HHKB style case with a 6.25U spacebar? (and can provide pics). really wondering how that would look like...

Good morning guys! Sheet will be updated later today. I'll also respond to your PMs later. Thanks for your support and interest ;)!Thanks & Stay awesome!
Huh, is 7 degrees the new Duck angle? They used to be all 11 right? Would have changed my keyboard history greatly if the earlier buys were 7 degrees.Duck already replied earlier stating that it would 11 degrees not 7.
...STS (as a German, I am having a hard time with the SS)...
Just as a quick update. We have reached 140 orders! I'll try to have the sheet updated by 1pm EST, otherwise around 7pm EST after work.

Alu and ss plate, what's the difference?

curious now, is this going to be FCFS or raffle style? Or if possible raise the amount being sold? :DMost likely FCFS with a waiting list like before.
Made it on the list :thumb:
Thanks Elton!

The list is down for me :o
I noticed a number of duplicates on the list. Will these be removed?
With so much interest surely it has to be 1 per person.

There are numerous people who wanted more than one board.

Yeah I get that there are people that want more than one. But do you think that's the fairest way to operate considering there is so much interest in this group buy?
I had a quick scan and saw one user has at least 3!

I do think it is fair as the person has to go back and submit the form three times which could allow for the buy to fill up before they do. Ultimately it is the Group Buy runners decision.

It's certainly not fair on the people who missed out.
I bet some of those duplicates end up being sold for inflated prices as well.

No, you had the exact same opportunity they did to enter the sale and try to win a slot. But seeing them sold for inflated prices upsets me but it will only stop when people don't buy them for inflated prices.
Anyone shaming the people that bought two ... please consider this is a two keyboard GB!
As a collector, I am interested in owning one of each, there is no other way to achieve this than ordering twice. Smart people just used a different nick for their second submission ... lesson learned ;)

Viper and Eagle are two different board,so why they can't join for 2 if they want bought. And some people ordered for friends to save the shipping code.is it a problem if someone want more than 1 ,and how you know they gonna flip it ?I noticed a number of duplicates on the list. It's not a problem. I'm just trying to state that it's probably not the fairest way to go about things considering how many people wanted in on this group buy.
Even now that I know you can enter multiple times I won't do so in the future out of respect for other people that want to take part and might miss out.
Anyone shaming the people that bought two ... please consider this is a two keyboard GB!Well. 2nd nick is not needed because you don't need to care what people say. Unless you feel guilty because you want to flip it.

Went and counted. Of the 105, 14 are duplicates, and 2 are triplicates. :confused:There are 2 design. 2 colour. Make sense if getting 2. 3 however, let's just hope they don't buy to flip. Maybe for friend. Who knows.
Anyone shaming the people that bought two ... please consider this is a two keyboard GB!Lol you don't need second account.People cries in every GB ,even it FCFS or raffle.

Also elton is too busy to RNG to pick 100 peoples from a pool of forms.
There are a few instances of people choosing two of the same board.
And I'm sure there would be loads of volunteers to help out if it meant making it a better and fairer group buy.

These guys can't do anything about it, but maybe sending the group buy runner a polite request to run the R3 GB on a one-board-per-person basis would be productive--you know, when the current group buy excitement has died down.
Here's hoping for better luck next time!

So it looks like people prefer the Viper to the Eagle. Can someone explain what the mass appeal of the HHKB layout is?
I can't say that I understand the thought process behind limiting a group buy when you know there are customers willing to buy more.
nor do I understand starting a group buy at midnight
whatever, just not exactly happy with how that went
You're aware that there are different timezones, right? No matter what time you start a buy, you're going to make someone upset from the opposite timezone.

You're aware this GB started at 9 PM EST, which is 2 AM in the UK, 3 AM in western Europe, 5 AM in Moscow, etc etc? Not a single one of these is a good time.

For you maybe? You also seem to have left off the West Coast of USA, which would be 6PM EST, seems like a pretty good time to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I live in the UK and had pretty much no chance due to my time zone but submitted a form as soon as I woke up this morning. Obviously I can understand people here being a bit disappointed as it's a really nice board but some of the whinging is pretty OTT. I'm disappointed I didn't get in but sometimes that's just how it goes, hopefully I'll get in the next one :)
TL;DR: Relax and quit moaning, keep an eye out for the next one

I can appreciate your positivity but people who didn't get in on this now just have to hope this comes along again in a year or two, or a second run happens. It's a pretty frustrating situation which I don't think was handled as well as it could have been.

This group buy was handled like any other duck group buy. Elton gave everyone a heads up in the Duck Blackbird Group buy thread.
This group buy was handled like any other duck group buy.I'm failing to see your point.
Elton gave everyone a heads up in the Duck Blackbird Group buy thread.I don't see anything on his profile prior to this GB since November the 4th. Unless you mean the picture form July, but I don't see how that matters?

People are entitled to express their opinions without being told that they are moaning or being salty. Not everyone wants to toe the line.

Whatever, if you're happy with how this went then I'm happy for you. I'm just hoping for a second round now.

Do you not see the clear contradiction in what you have just said?
People are entitled to express their opinions of displeasure etc but I'm not entitled to express my opinion that they need to relax and stop moaning? At the end of the day the guy running it is under no obligation to run it at all, and if he wanted to he could simply pick and choose people however he so wished (I realise this is extremely unlikely and would lead to uproar but I'm simply illustrating a point). You're right undone, the prospect of waiting 2 years is pretty gutting but I think we are lucky to have a community that creates a lot of similar high quality boards. I don't really see how much better it could have been handled really =S. There were always going to be a lot of disappointed people that missed out. I suppose it depends upon whether you prefer the method of first come first served or a raffle type system, which of these is better is pretty much just down to personal opinion I guess
Seeing 3 pages of arguing/complaining I couldn't help but open my big fat mouth:
First off, FCFS is the only way. It's just the way the world operates and removes any bias that is possible with a raffle. Let's examine this on a very large scale... So you guys tell me that if the newest phone comes out, we'll use the iPhone as an example b/c it's probably the single most popular. So iPhone releases and Apple collects 10 million submissions over two days and then does a raffle? There would be fanboy riots in the streets lol. Not to mention that the iPhone releases according to local Apple time (in the US anyway) - aka PST at midnight, that's 3am EST...
There have been countless nights many of us have lost sleep over keyboards/new products to be first in line. A raffle isn't fair to those who pay attention, stay awake or miss out on other things to make the cut.
A) If you wanted this badly enough, you'll follow the boards, timelines, set alarms, subscribe to notifications and be there when it drops. And if you can't, you find a friend that can.
B) This is for two separate keyboards - if they were on separate GB pages this wouldn't even be a discussion. I ordered one of each and don't feel the least bit bad about it. I might be the odd man out, but if I do sell one, it will be only for the price I incurred - ripping people off is bad karma. Even those that sell for much more than they paid, well, that's capitalism. Don't buy it.
C) Running a group buy is an incredible amount of work. 100 submissions is extremely generous IMO. Elton is certainly the man too - don't be giving him any lip.
I'm sorry to those who didn't get on the list. I didn't make the 910 and was upset too, but that's life. They're just keyboards after all. The next hot design/maker will come along and you'll forget you ever were emo about this. I'm also sorry if the GB didn't meet your personal expectations, but this is the way Duck buys have always gone down. Elton gave plenty of notice in the prior GB thread (Black Bird) and there was like a 3 month warning that it was coming before the end of 2016. I'm not sure what everyone is so upset about.

People are entitled to express their opinions without being told that they are moaning or being salty. Not everyone wants to toe the line.
The comments that people are making can be seen as constructive and can be used to improve future group buys.
Nothing that you said was constructive, and you are basically trying to invalidate people's opinions by saying that they are just moaning.

I'm sorry dude but that simply isn't the case. A lot of people are purely moaning without saying anything constructive. There have been some constructive points absolutely however. Aside from a raffle method there hasn't really been any alternative put forward by those 'constructive' people. I notice you have ignored quite a few things I said and replied fairly selectively but ok. Whether what I have said is constructive is up to interpretation really, I mean you can't just have people giving their opinion and then not have people that disagree reply can you?
Some of the people above me have illustrated things very well and in a far more articulate way than I have.
Finally, my sincere apologies for my contribution to this messy bickering. This has reminded me now why I very rarely make accounts/get involved on forums
Oops, just remembered another point I had meant to make.
I imagine if a lot of those people complaining had got in they wouldn't have any problem with the method used....

I honestly don't have the time or patience to reply to all the points made on this thread. But there has been way too much shaming on both sides. The problem isn't with the people that won more than one, its with the way the group buy was ran. And people that missed out should be able to voice their opinion without being called salty/emo or being told that they are just moaning.
And I fully get that there is no perfect way of running a group buy. But I do have a suggestion, open the group buy thread before opening orders, and give people 24 hours notice of the start time. I would have happily set an alarm if I new I had to.
If I'm not mistaken, Viper V1 had an oddly shaped PCB but this PCB should be standard for both the Viper and the Eagle due to the two piece aluminum housing right?
Been thinking about my plate material choice; what do you guys think is best? I am planning on using linears with this board if that makes a difference.

Got a Duck Eagle. Then I remembered how much I appreciated having the backspace in the HHKB location. Sooo, swapped to Viper. I also like having some more of the case top showing. Am I trying to convince myself? I don't know. Probably, yes.

Looks like the PCB is the same for both, so you could do a split backspace on either one?

Savages! Where is the support for my decision?? Every moment this will haunt me.
Worthwhile info though. I do like having more of the top case show though and the feeling of the HHKB layout being standard on the Viper. Gracias amigo.

Sheet is back up!Will you start invoicing sooner since it filled up so quick or do we still have till Dec. 20? I might have to sell off some stuff to finance this

I was thinking of starting to invoice this Friday so we can get the boards ASAP.
Sheet is back up!
Elton took orders worth ~35'000$ in ~3h with a niche product in a niche community. I never thought that was possible, I bet you can get a whole shipping container worth of gaming rubberdomes for that money ;)That definitely puts into perspective the amount of faith we have in each other in this community.
lol, shipping to VN is cheaper than to USIt will be shipped from South Korea, so I think it's totally legit
Sorry...had to add numbers. It's up now!
Every time an additional board goes to someone who already won in this GB, they profit by that secondary, lesser amount of utility, but another person loses by a siginificant measure, by missing out on that super exciting first board by Duck.
Will the plastic plate be good for either vintage blacks or 65g zealios?I'd like to know as well. I hear SS is great for linear but I bought a Plastic plate too. I think I saw Ergo clears and poly plates before on other Korean Customs.

Yup, gonna do steel and linear and tactile and plastic (If I like linear and plastic I'll do double linear) and the have a case made (Ziptyze's 3D print/commission?) for the second PCB so at the very least I'll have 2-ish keyboards. Will the plastic plate be good for either vintage blacks or 65g zealios?I'd like to know as well. As less flex is preferred for linears, I'd assume that a plastic plate would be best suited for tactile as it provides more flex than aluminum. That being said, I've seem some kustoms with vintage blacks and plastic plates
If I were to go with tactile switches for this build, I think I would try out a plastic plate... More bounce for the ounce.

Yup, that's why I mentioned commission. He's gonna have design a new case or I'm gonna have to do it. Hopefully someone else will like the design so Zip might even sell it. As a note, you'll have to be specific with your case options. The PCBs do have a little extra on the top left of them for the indicator LEDs that you'll have to account for. Which sucks cos I had the same plan, and wanted to use an FMJ case but that's a no-go because I can't account for that extra part.

I just picked up an extra PCB cause I am ridiculously paranoid when it comes to custom boards and their PCBs. The way I see it is that if this PCB were to ever go to ****, at least I'd have a second PCB to continue using the board. Otherwise, I'd have a $300 paperweight

You will have until the 20th to pay. I will let you guys know the timing of the boards once all invoices has been paid.
still waiting for invoice lol
What are the chance of an alps plate/pcb for the viper
Just heard about an independent group buy of Viper/Eagle in China, did you guys authorize it?And the guy who run that GB is not reliable. His cmyw GB have not been shipped yet and he didn't reply any PM about that GB. So my suggestion is DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM HIM!!
What are the chance of an alps plate/pcb for the viper
That would be amazing! In for at least 2-3 myself
Got enough Nixies for two 60% ... guess I know where they go now :)Hey me too! Alright!
If anyone wishes to let go of their spot, please let me know. I'll take it with fast money.Hopefully elton wont allow anyone to transfer their slot
Q: Will you be running a R2 for this GB?
A: Most likely not and we will be limited to 100 sets.
Are we supposed to say "Paid" here after we made the payment? Or is everyone just hyped after throwing their wallet at the keyboard? :) honestly unless it's required, a couple dozen post with the word Paid is pretty pointless.. Could have just said "I'm poorer now but thanks Elton you are the best!"

I have crippling depression and keyboards are the only things that bring me joy to my life. Paying the invoice for this keyboard brought a fleeting moment of meaning to my life.Sorry to hear about the depression... every keyboard I get does brings me joy and it seems everyone here feels the same.
I've seen GB runners say they appreciate participants posting a short "paid" after paying. Don't think that was elton though ...I see so there was a point to it after all, in this case, PAID! :thumb:
Also .. HYPE!
Paid, thanks Elton.
Paid, thanks Elton.
It seems like OC is a popular mech kb place. I'm from OC too!
Oh, and paid!

I'm gonna pay the invoice in a while. :P
Absence of a tactile bump doesnt mean all the dust bunnies are gonna suddenly want it more.
So I got a silver Viper with SS plate, and I want to make an endgame linear board. Got some of the new Zeal stabs to put on this. What're considered the best Gateron bottoms? milky, black, white (RGB), or clear (Zeal)? The tops? Thinking of using the linear Gateron clear stems. Should I get gold springs or use some 62gs I got from winkeyless.kr? And finally, what lube to use?In my VE.A, I have linear Gateron clears with 62g gold springs lubed with Vitorinox and Krytox. It feels fantastic.
I'm gonna pay the invoice in a while. :P
If I was in on this, I'd already have paid. Just sayin'.

Lubing a smooth, linear switch doesn't make sense to me. You voluntarily add a time bomb to your switch. Lube will attract dust and age ...

Hey Elton, what's the story behind the PPS caps? Will those be coming to a GH group buy?
For those that haven't seen: http://duck0113.tistory.com/142
Yes please make a GB of these keycaps, im totally down for this one! So that will make a full set of my Eagle!!!!!Hey Elton, what's the story behind the PPS caps? Will those be coming to a GH group buy?

ridiculous basically selling his spot for double the price.
The only clean way to "transfer" a spot would be Elton refunding the original buyer and then billing the new spot owner. I couldn't imagine him doing that, there's a waiting list ...Yup. Best way is to basically resell it. I pm Elton about it. Not possible so too bad.
"Selling" a spot to one another will get you into PayPal hell unless you receive the item from Elton first (His obligation to prove shipping to the buyer to PayPal) and then the original buyer shipping to the new buyer (original buyers obligation to prove shipping to the new buyer to PayPal)
Elton shipping to the new buyer enables both buyers to file a PayPal dispute and claim their money back.
@Elton
Will all of the boards be going out in early February or just the first wave? If this GB will be split into waves do you have estimates of when each wave will go out?
Looking forward to getting my Viper so soon!
First batch will be shipped out around early Feb and the rest will be shipped out around a month later.
I am not dreaming, my entry got bumped up to #100. Yay!
PM'd for an invoice. :)
Edit: all done. Thanks, Elton!

someone tried selling me his GB spot for 600 usd wtf
Yes, he PM'ed me as well. I like the MK community - very informative, nice, and welcoming. But it's now come to the point where there are members who like to take advantage of the large influx of new people. I mean really, selling your spot for a $200 markup? A spot, and not even the physical board? Disgusting, to say the least. I hope at least Elton can take away this guy's spot and give it to someone who's more deserving, than a scalper. My $0.02
I guess there are opportunists exist in every market but i dislike the ones that makes no effort to even appreciate what they had.. Maybe there should be a GB policy for something like this but it would be hard to police. Best practice is probably just to ignore them.Yes, he PM'ed me as well. I feel like everyone is referring to this individual like Lord Voldy, "the one that shall not be named."
Either way, shady behavior nonetheless. Shame on him/her for trying to take advantage of individuals that missed the opportunity to secure a spot.

Perhaps he thought you were referring to an acrylic base opposed to the acrylic inserts
Yup this is the one im trying to mention!Perhaps he thought you were referring to an acrylic base opposed to the acrylic inserts
I think he were talking about side inserts like v1Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/w45RV4a.jpg)

That was Xondat's way of doing it, from reading the past comments I'd guess that it's done differently here.

It's the fairest way to do it! My way isn't really practised. And because parts here have probably already been made, it'd be hard to match up.
The issue is if people are willing to buy a board for more than GB price, you could just receive the board and resell.
Looks like Koreans are starting to get theirs :D

I went with only the plastic plate, so hopefully it meets my expectations! Going to build it with vintage browns.

I meant physically putting the keyboard together. The diffuser on the front of the keyboard has some unidentifiable cutouts.

Does the plastic protective film have a burn mark or the actual acrylic?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/DXqf6Vy.jpg)
Oh yeah, what a great little kit. The glittery silver anodization is amazing. Everything arrived in great condition, but one of the diffusers has a burn mark, I'll pm Elton about it.
Can't wait to build this! Going lubed gat blacks with sip sockets and 55g gold springs. Zeal stabs.

BTW don't use zeal stabs for spacebar, screws can't fit with the bottom acrylic. Also they cause at least one short (that I know of) on the PCB if you don't use some kind of plastic as spacers.

You can still use them on the rest of the board, just not the spacebar. But do something about the shorts, i used teflon tape. How'd you handle the screws fitting with the bottom acrylic?

Badly :( Tried to drill 2 holes but 1 of them was too close to the edge and the acrylic broke into 2 pieces. Gonna rock the bottom acrylic-less for now and figure out a custom acrylic piece later. Or maybe a metal piece, not too much of a fan of the front underglow anyway.
I'm not a big fan of Under Glow either... Should we do an IC for Duck Viper/Eagle V2 Aluminum Diffuser?
My dumbass broke a bottom acrylic piece while tearing into the plastic packaging like a giddy schoolgirl. To fix I'm gonna scan it, throw it in illustrator tomorrow to draw up an .eps file and send it off to Ponoko for a new acrylic set. I'll make the drawing public after I get the first order sent and approved, post a link here and then you guys can order new pieces as well. I know someone else had a scratch or something? Should only be a few dollars for new acrylic (maybe $10-15?). Haters of underglow could also do black/silver acrylic, laser-cut metal or even wood -- whatever! I did stuff thru Ponoko before and it came out dope and wasn't expensive at all! They also have a new-member special where you get the first $15 free or something which should be enough for replacement plastics. I'll report back! You can still use them on the rest of the board, just not the spacebar. I'm kinda annoyed by the fact that I cannot use Zeal's screw on stabs... At least not w/o having to tape the contact points on the PCB and modifying the acrylic spacer.
If anyone figures out the best way to get them in w/o also breaking their diffuser please post about it!

As said above you could probably sand the diffuser but you would need to be very careful as acrylic is very prone to cracking when too much force is applied incorrectly

Perhaps we can use a soldering iron and just melt a hole in it...
Ok so the boards Ponoko offers are really big for the size parts we need... I was able to fit 7 sets of diffusers on a single sheet! At Ponoko you pay per sheet size, not per cut so it doesn't make sense to get a single set cut out from this huge piece of acrylic. It cost $48 (w/shipping) for the sheet (yikes).Wow what a cool dude thanks for doing this!
Anyone who needs a set of these just PM me and pay for shipping, a $5 contribution towards cost and I'll send you a set! Also below is a link to the sheet if you want some obscure material (wood, black out acrylic, a different tint etc.). The sheet size selected is the absolute smallest that would accommodate the front-side diffuser. Also, the set I ordered is materials>plastic>acrylic>opal. The thickness required is .118" or 3mm.
On the Zeal Stabs issue: Can someone send me a pic of exactly what is happening? Size, location of the stab causing issues on the diffuser etc. I think I have some around here somewhere (yeah, I'm being lazy). Maybe I can mod the drawings to accommodate the stabs and then you guys can just order a new custom set! No need to melt the diffusers lol.

Well I have good news for anyone that wants/needs replacement light diffusers. Duck was gracious enough to email me the CAD drawings. He is such an awesome dude! I should have them uploaded to Ponoko shortly. Please stay tuned. If you're interested in the type of materials Ponoko offers that you could use for replacements see here (https://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials).Awesome!

All extra diffusers I had made are spoken for.
List as follows:But as I mentioned, the files are linked up here (https://www.ponoko.com/design-your-own/products/duck-viper-eagle-light-diffusers-14068) and ready to be cut if someone else needs them. The design was just approved by Ponoko. It's also a store model so it's just a couple of clicks... easy peasy. I'm pretty sure I even have the acrylic material linked. I'll send out invoices in the next week. They're expected to be delivered in 10 days.

I'll send out invoices in the next week. They're expected to be delivered in 10 days.

I'd also definitely be interested if you can modify the design for Zeal stabilizer compatibility.
All extra diffusers I had made are spoken for.

Thanks for doing this onmybikedrunk. Very solid.
1) Happy to give one up for Elton if needed... also sounds like there's a lot more demand, especially if we can lick the Zeal stab issue between the lot of us. Mini-gb?
2) I'll get mine tomorrow and can take some measurements if needed. Not sure I 100% understand where the clearance on the Zeal stabs is problematic on the front spacer. I also found some very flat-headed screws today at work- hoping there might be an easy hardware swap fix since the Zeal stabs do have those lovely gold screws, but they have a significant head. If that perhaps fixes it, I'll send everyone who needs them screws.

No, using some traditional snap ins. Clear stab housing with black sliders.

Ok wow, so more people need Zeal compatibility than I realized. I'll stop being lazy now. I have the board, the stabs, calipers and a brain -- no excuses. I'll redraw the .eps files for Zeal Stab compatibility over the next 2 or so days. One suggestion is to wait for the original diffuser sets I ordered to come in before placing an even larger order for the Zeal-diffusers... just to make sure the acrylic works well with light diffusion, the thickness is right and there aren't any other flaws with production. Should only make the wait a few days longer and worth it IMO. I will have the new drawings ready to go way before the first "stock batch" comes in... When we're ready we can expedite the second order.
As far as the electrical shorts caused by the screws... Is this only happening in a few select locations on the PCB? Just looking at it I think I can see what's happening but just curious on other's experiences. Is there pin-pointed trouble areas? I was thinking that a painted-on electrical insulation might be ideal here.

From my experience programming the board last night it seems that the OTD software still has issues with mapping arrow keys to the board
Like my Viper V1 I had to end up mapping the numpad keys for arrows and leaving numlock on
Thanks man I'll give it a shotFrom my experience programming the board last night it seems that the OTD software still has issues with mapping arrow keys to the board

I believe the way I mapped arrow keys was running the OTD software with Korean App Locale and then it worked out perfect.
For all those waiting I should have diffuser dimensions for Zeal Compatibility done late tonight. Once I double check everything I'll send them off to be cut probably tomorrow. If I get them expedited it will raise the cost from $5 to between $7-$10 -- is that ok with everybody?

If anyone wants to trade their black eagle kit for my VE.A w/tenting stands, lmk :thumb:
Glamour shot: http://imgur.com/WM6aMbU (http://imgur.com/WM6aMbU)
Does anyone have the files for the plate? Trying to get a case made for my second PCB, and measurements for the mounting on the plate would really help. Probably 3D printing a case or getting acrylic cut. CNC is probably too expensive.
So can anyone kinda give me the thought behind the acrylic plate? I ordered one with my extra PCB just out of curiosity being that I haven't seen Duck offer them before... I've seen a few posts (probably KBDLab?) where I've seen folks use acrylic plates with linears but this negates the belief of hard metal (steel) is better than soft (aluminum) when it comes to plates and linear switches... Anybody?

I have polycarb plate and linear switches for my KMAC2 and I have to say it's the worst typing experience I ever have from Korean custom. But that could very well just be me.
So ok... I have the drawings done. I do have a small problem... I didn't realize (a stupid oversight on my part) that the acrylic pieces were different thicknesses. The bottom is 2mm while the top/sides are 3mm. Ponoko's smallest thickness offered is 3mm. I cancelled the "stock" diffuser order with them and emailed them about custom materials. They unfortunately only offer what's listed on their site. If anyone has any suggestions for a one-stop shop online, I would be forever grateful. I will also investigate a local place I found here in Portland, OR. FYI - we need 2mm thickness of "Opal" or translucent Acrylic sheeting with light transmission values.IMO the LED being so close should be plenty bright. Also 2 in 1 would be more economical in case someone bought the 6.25u but changed his mind later before building then the 6.25u would become useless.
Next issue is how they're produced. Attached is a sample drawing with the options I had in mind. My idea would be to produce two separate versions -- 1 for 6.5u spacebars and one for 7u spacebars. The reason for this is because the two stab mounting holes to the far right hand side (when looking at the back of the PCB) are very close together. If we did a one-size fits all then it MIGHT not refract the light as well from that LED located above the two holes. This might not be an issue, but I'm not sure. Duck definitely designed these so the acrylic sits right against the LEDs which is why I'm cautious. So everyone who wants one of these take a look at the drawings and see what the best course of action would be... A one-size-fits-all or two separate versions for different spacebar lengths?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/SJZ2y3w.jpg)

I would much rather only produce one version for obvious reasons...

Alright, because I've received numerous complaints via PM, I'm implementing a spot transfer fee of $50 USD. It's not fair to others when one's intention is to just sell their spot for profit.
So I have a local guy working on the laser cutting for the diffuser. Consensus seems to be a universal size, which I totally agree with at this point...
beardedboydesign.com (https://www.beardedboydesign.com/)
EDIT//I will start a spreadsheet and link it here of everyone that has PM'd me or left a message in the thread and add to it as we go along.smittysteve has agreed to help and he'll be managing the spreadsheet/Google Forms. I'm sure he'll post a link soon. We're also discussing other materials for fun... Think metal/onyx acrylic/hardwood ply etc...//
Hopefully the standard Opal Acrylic will be cheaper via beardedboydesign than Ponoko because Ponoko's shipping rates + "maker rates" are astronomical. Again, it wouldn't hurt to have a backup source online if anyone knows of anywhere they have good experience with. So yeah, should know more Monday.

Hello All-Hi what kind of acrylic does the original duck eagle have? Because i dont know what to choose between clear and frosted, can you help me out
So, I've offered to help onmybikedrunk with a few bits of the replacement/ alternate front diffuser bits. As you can tell, dude is a rock star and doesn't need help. But also, we are both dads of 2 (onmybike) and 3 (me) kids, so between the two of us, we'll get these bad boys ordered. Not trying to make this a big GB or anything, just trying to centralize orders and get the cost for everyone as low as possible. And we're just trying to help out here- will post all costs and there's no cut in it for us... only want to help everyone make these awesome boards even awesome-r. :thumb:
As onmybike said, we want to keep it pretty simple, so here's the plan:
-We are only going to deal with new front diffusers right now. The goal is to make something as close as possible to what came with the board- 2mm thick frosted "Opal Acrylic." We've included a question about whether you want to have others made for the side/ rear 3mm diffusers. If there is a lot of interest on that, perhaps we will give it a go.
-I agree with onmybikedrunk- not sure I want to mess with anything metal right now either. I'm going to investigate the clearance to the PCB and since you're not trying to get the acrylic as near as possible to the PCB for LEDs, maybe a thin metal insert would work? I still vote we stick with acrylics for now. With the nylon washers likely needed for the Zeal stabs and all that, I'd rather not have another potential way to short out my board. We've left it in there for an option on the form- it you really want metal, check that too and we can see if it's feasible. However, as we started chatting about it, we of course started thinking about other materials... I went all silver on the Viper, so a black onyx acrylic might look tasty. We don't want this to become a big thing or have to many variables (aka opportunities for it to go sideways), but we've added a few questions about interest in other materials. We'll see what y'all have to say and go from there.
Think that's it. Pretty simple... form is here:

Just thought I'd take a break from boring diffusers to share something I think is special... I built this on a whim and IMO it turned out awesome...
So a little backstory about the switches: For those of you who don't know, they are Japanese Hirose Cherry MX Orange Switches produced by Hirose under permission from Cherry in the ate eighties... They are pretty rare (I actually had a harder time finding them than I did finding Nixdorf's or "Nixies"). The are one of the smoothest switches I have ever used -- smoother than the Nixies (that I own at least). The thing that makes them special are three things: Hirose was the only company Cherry licensed to produce their switches, stamped with the Cherry name on them, at that time - there is no mention of Hirose anywhere on the switch. Second, the stems are modified from the standard Cherry MX stem as seen here (credit MouseFan (http://mousefan.telcontar.net/)).Show Image(https://deskthority.net/w/images/thumb/e/ee/Hirose_Cherry_MX_Orange_--_comparison_with_MX_Black_1.jpg/249px-Hirose_Cherry_MX_Orange_--_comparison_with_MX_Black_1.jpg)
And finally the stems are a different plastic than stock Cherry MX switches. The modded stem makes them super smooth - like a lubed switch without lube. The body of the switch is nearly identical to vintage blacks and the springs register somewhere around 68-72g (I have sh*%^y equipment for this measurement so don't quote me on that). They have only been found on two boards: the Yamaha QX3 sequencer and NCR's F020 - which is actually a cool looking board. They Yamaha has been known to have an identical switch with a white/clear stem - also linear. I nerd out on rare switches and thought some of you might enjoy this build... Just thought I'd take a break from boring diffusers to share something I think is special... I built this on a whim and IMO it turned out awesome...That looks incredibly nice. I've never had the chance to test the Nixie switch before, as they are very rare apparently :( ;D

So a little backstory about the switches: For those of you who don't know, they are Japanese Hirose Cherry MX Orange Switches produced by Hirose under permission from Cherry in the ate eighties... Are you be able to use zeal stab with the original acrylic?

Oh this is awesome! I never knew about that little notch in the stem there... Also for some reason never thought of the nickel thing either. Did Ripster pressure you to use nickels? LOL. "You know, for keyboard science!" or whatever he says...haha love that guy. Anyway, glad you got a decent measurement. Did you get your QX3's from Japan or some other outlet? I have new old stock (yeah that's right, NEVER USED) Nixies for the Viper **insert evil laughter here** . The nostalgic vintage dudes are gonna be crying as I cannibalize this board... No these are just regular clear snap in stabs. I will be using Zeal for the Viper tho.
Speaking of which: Looks like the local dude from beardyboydesign.com is coming through. I have to source the plastic myself (better that way), but he's offered to do each diffuser cut for $2.50. This of course doesn't include materials so it seems we might hit a $5 price point for a replacement front diffuser with Zeal-compatibility. Yeah!

Hirose Cherry mount is a smaller cross than Cherry MX mount. Cherry MX keycaps will fit on Hirose Cherry switches, but Hirose Cherry keycaps will not fit on Cherry MX mount keycaps. The horizontal arms are shorter but approximately the same thickness, but the vertical arms of the cross are noticeably thinner, and keycaps made for this mount won't fit onto a Cherry MX mount keycap.
If anyone's looking to let go a viper v2 kit! :) Ping me.
If anyone's looking to let go a viper v2 kit! :) Ping me.And if anyone's looking to let go of an eagle v2 kit (or hell, even an eagle v1 kit if they still have it), I'd be super interested.
Edit: hells yes
Quick question - should I get Zeal stabilizers or Cherry stabilizers for the Viper V2 build? I've seen discussion in the front mentioning that Zeal stabilizers might not work out of the box without custom diffusers. I'm planning to use Zeal switches for this (R5, 65g). First time building this so I'm nervous!

Diffuser Update:
So finding a good match for the acrylic is rather difficult here in the USA considering the required 2mm thickness. It seems that every major acrylic distributor I've contacted only carries a starting thickness of 3mm. There is a guy on eBay that sells stuff made in the UK by the name of Perspex but he sells it in paper sizes (A4, A5 etc). Just extra work to only cut a few per sheet and then of course wasted plastics (aka raised cost) in the end. Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm still on it. If I can't find another option by the end of this weekend then I'm going to order the stuff from the UK and just deal with it.
Cheers

Looks great! Any ideas on what those LED's on the upper left corner do? I'm still waiting for mine but I can't wait to get building soon! The first 3 are Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. The other 4 are Layers 1-4 or FN Layer selection.

Thanks guys! I'm using ergo-clears with zealencio silencing clips...still getting used to the HHKB layout. Why dont you just use zealios instead of ergos? What is the main difference? Just curious so I know what to use for my build

Just wondering, but is it possible to use the other PCB's with the case? Looking at GoN Nerd 60 atm as it has bluetooth support hahaWon't work due to the port location.

BT may have reduced range and unreliable signal due to the aluminum case.
Also you could theoretically solder a usb breakout to the pins on the PCB, attach it to a slim BT card and hide it in the weight cutout. It shouldn't be impossible to find parts that fit, just make sure to measure out the space and place something between the breakout and pcb to prevent shorts. I would recommend looking into this over a different PCB (which as previously stated wont work anyway)

Anyone else planning to use/using holtites with the viper/eagle? :)I'm really curious if that works, according to that Google Spreadsheet it should work.

Will there be a R3 or was that it?
I have the board on hand, just waiting for holtites and stuff to arrive :). Having the ability to change switches on the fly plus no soldering is a massive plus. These are my words! I'm currently building a keyboard myself but I'm short of 6 holtites. I'll have some more by Wednesday though.

PS: what's the bottom part made of? It feels super heavy compared to the top part.

Diffuser Update:Thank you so much for doing this man, who to contact if i want to add another diffuser to the order?
So I ordered the acrylic sheets to finally make the diffusers. I ordered them from a retailer in the UK as I could not find the right light-transmitting Opal Acrylic in the USA at a 2mm thickness. It will cap us at around 50-60 front diffusers which I think is more than plenty. SmittySteve and I are in close contact on this and he'll be sending out invoices soon - I'm estimating $8-9 shipped in the USA. So if any of you still haven't joined and want to, do it now! I'm guessing they will ship in about 2 weeks. The studio I found is going to cut them as I wait since it's such a small order. They will be shipped First Class with tracking (thick envelope) in the US. International folks should PM me or smittysteve to arrange shipping as sending it with tracking would be absurdly expensive for a small piece of $6 plastic. I'll post up when their made and in the meantime expect an email/invoice from Steve! Cheers!
This is for a single front diffuser that matches the stock ones that came with the board with added Zeal compatibility.
anychance making one with brass?Does anyone have access or a copy to the .eps or .svg file that was used to create the Poly/Alum/SS plates? If so, please shoot me a pm!

Can you write a small comparison of acrylic vs ss/alu with a tactile switch like zealios?
If you can, thanks! :thumb:

I am talking with someone about the plate, waiting on his feedback with the prototype.
In terms of the weight, I am waiting for an email from Duck. Meanwhile my Orion/BB weight GB is still ongoing so I am unable to go through with any new GB yet.

no, usb port is in a different location
I used both LED and switch holtites on my build (and also on my Blackbird). They work pretty well, just make sure you use a soldering iron (without solder) to push them in for a second or two. The heat and pressure help fix them in place and prevent them from coming out when you're removing switches... although that's not a huge issue either way.

Last question - does the switches wobble when you type on them with the holtites on? I imagine it would be fine seeing that there's the plate on top, but I might be mistaken. Thanks again!!

There's no wobble. They're pretty hard to get out again, actually -- you really need a pair of tweezers that curve in toward each other to remove the switches easily once they're in. Honestly, I think if you're using PCB-mount switches you could go plateless and they still wouldn't wobble. The holtites do indeed 'hold tight'.I used both LED and switch holtites on my build (and also on my Blackbird). johnthedong is right about the part numbers for the holtites. Specifically, I used 8134-HC-8P2 for switches and 8134-HC-5P2 for LEDs, both of which are the gold variants. The tin ones are much cheaper but I wanted completely invisible bling, for some reason.
As for where I bought them, I got mine from onlinecomponents.com, but there are many electronics suppliers that sell them. As electronics suppliers give you price-breaks on unit pricing as you purchase more units at once, in order to figure out where to buy them you'll want to do something like:And remember, you need 2 per switch.
- Decide roughly how many you want / can afford right now
- Google up a bunch of suppliers for them
- Figure out who is cheapest based on the amount you want and cost of shipping to you

2 LED holtites and 2 switch holtites per switch - I accidentally ordered a few less due to this for another project before. I've found that mouser gives the cheapest quote if you're looking for smaller amounts too, and their shipping is usually really reasonable and fast. It's great to hear that they work pretty well - I'm assuming that the Duck Viper V2 board doesn't have any close holes (that might break if you insert them incorrectly) and such, right? Can't wait to get started on my kit!

So I got the plastic in! We're almost ready to ship. I'm going into the shop tomorrow to have the pieces cut while I wait!
Sorry for any confusion, we haven't invoiced yet... It will happen this week. Since it's going to be under $10 shipped (US) I figured there is no reason to have this long drawn out pay-period. If anyone can't afford to pay this week just PM me and we'll work it out -- no worries! On top of that, I'm sure we will have a few extra. If you're not sure if you filled out the form just do it again and leave a note of how many you actually want.
Just heard from Duck that the 2nd batch will be delayed for a couple more weeks.

Only the front diffusers are needed, right ? Side diffusers should still be the same I guess. Ordering my Zeal stabs now, god they'e so expensive lol

I'll be culling through the form entries in the next day or so and will email everyone directly to confirm order since we had a few bits on the survey that were "what if" sorts of questions. One of us will invoice you after that- I'd say all invoices will be out by Friday. Then brother onmybike will be able to have the machine shop cut these babies and make sure everyone gets what they wanted.
LAST CALL FOR DIFFUSERS!! Folks in wave two shipping, don't be shy- better to order one now than wish you had done so later. Form will close at midnight (PST) 4/12 and we'll call orders final then.

Wait, do you mean the Viper/Eagle or the LS? Knowing his schedule (the current viper/eagle v2 was announced about 7-8 months ago, on 2016.09.26) and the fact that we're slow in shipping the second part, I really do doubt the next Viper/Eagle would come in that short amount of time. LS V3 would ship approx Q4 2017 and we would still be on schedule I guess.

I apologize if the delay is inconveniencing for you. Sadly, these delays in production is out of my control.
Edit-
What is your order number?

Nah, I'm good as I've already gotten my vipers off market. When this gb started I wasn't even in the mk community yet lol. I was merely replying to the comments above about the V3 of viper/eagle.

Yes, this is a good point! Form is still open now, though I will be closing it soon so onmybike can go forth with the cutting. Since the diffuser template is available, I suppose if you wait now and end up needing one later, you'd just pay more for a one-off through Big Blue Saw, etc...
I would say that anyone in shipping wave two who is planning to use Zeal stabs should pick up a new/ compatible front diffuser. (Remember the new diffuser is only for the front and is a frosted acrylic- a drop-in replacement for the one provided by Duck that accommodates the Zeal stabs.)

Out of curiosity, has anyone completed a build with the new compatible diffuser? Was a prototype diffuser cut for testing purposes ?

No worries. Onmybikedrunk is doing all the heavy lifting - I just volunteered for some logistics support.
And on the test build- no, not that I know of. He's just received the material and will be having it cut soon. Should be all good since he just added a bit more clearance for the bottom row Zeal stabs that were bumping the Duck diffuser, but I'm sure he'll test once he has them in hand before shipping.

Still haven't received the invoices yet, so you should still on time.
On another note, I've just gotten around to install holtites on my board. It works perfectly such that I didn't even need to force the holtites in using a solder gun.

No wobble at all on a few switches I tested. There's holtites for LED's too, and they work great too! I might pop in SIP sockets for the information LED's (the LED strip at the top) though. but holtites work too.

No worries - Here's the holtites you need for both the switches and the LED's. Shop around to see where you can get them the cheapest as that varies from quantity to your location.
8134-HC-5P2 - LED - (example buying link that I got mine from) http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity/8134-HC-5P2/?qs=2mZjssE3HVW2oxs%252bzdwmWw%3D%3D
8134-HC-8P2 - Switches - http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity-AMP/8134-HC-8P2/?qs=2mZjssE3HVXK3Y0NGiZ2AQ%3D%3D
Note that there's also the silver colored version for both of them that is identical. Only difference is the anodization and the price. :)
Hopefully this helps you!

Just wondering, to use zeal stabs the only problem right now is the diffusers, right? No other issues such as the screws causing stuff to short out, right? Thanks!

I think there still might be a chance to short a key but should be pretty easy to alleviate by seeing where the screws hit any pads and masking those off with some tape or a nylon washer maybe.

To anyone who used Zeal stabs here, is the shorts only on the back of the PCB? I've taped the possible connections up before popping the screws, but I'm wondering just in case.I taped the spots close to where the screw goes in and I've had no problems so far. I have Zeal stabs on Enter, LShift and Spacebar with the front diffuser on. Been typing on the board for a month now.
PPS: Planning to build using full zeals and go without the front diffuser for awhile until the upgraded diffusers arrive :D

I don't think invoices have gone out yet.
Yeah I did just the bottom side, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to do the top as well. And I did use the default diffuser where the the screw for the stab kinda pushed it but not to the point of snapping it. I think it's fine honestly even after putting the board together. To anyone who used Zeal stabs here, is the shorts only on the back of the PCB? Interesting, so just the bottom of the PCB should be taped? Are you using your default diffusers with it? Thanks!

Is anyone who has their viper having this issue?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/kmCztQd.jpg)
The bottom plate seems to bend around the front acrylic piece like it's too thick or something. I just want to make sure I haven't assembled it wrong or anything. The diffuser is definitely facing the right way, too.
Any ideas?

Is that the stock diffuser? Are you using Zeal/Screw stabs? My keyboard assembles normally. I am using a PCB mount stabilizer for the spacebar.
Looks like it might be 1mm too thick.. can you measure and see if it's 2mm or 3mm? Is it the diffuser too thick and pushing up the case or is it the top part of the case being too short? Is anyone who has their viper having this issue?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/kmCztQd.jpg)

Yeah it's the stock diffuser and I am using regular PCB mount cherry stabs for all the stabilized keys. It genuinely looks like my piece of acrylic is just slightly too thick. Does yours come up higher than the pieces of metal it sits between?

I just measured the diffuser, it's about 2.5mm? Although I measured using a ruler so I can't attest to how accurate it is. It definitely seems like it's too thick though as it seems to mess with my spacebar as well. When it's in my spacebar feels kinda.. mushy? (stabs are clipped btw) and when I remove it it's fine just like all the other keys. I've taken it out for now and I may just sand it down.

Yeah it's the stock diffuser and I am using regular PCB mount cherry stabs for all the stabilized keys. It genuinely looks like my piece of acrylic is just slightly too thick. Does yours come up higher than the pieces of metal it sits between?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I just measured the diffuser, it's about 2.5mm? Although I measured using a ruler so I can't attest to how accurate it is. It definitely seems like it's too thick though as it seems to mess with my spacebar as well. When it's in my spacebar feels kinda.. mushy? (stabs are clipped btw) and when I remove it it's fine just like all the other keys. I've taken it out for now and I may just sand it down.
Just a thought. Did you take off the plastic film protecting both sides?
Mizzazz:
When I spoke to Duck about the tolerances for the diffusers he mentioned he wasn't happy about the variations that came with the 2mm thickness. It looks like you got unlucky and just got a bad piece...

Haha, I've got a mate into buying a RS68 kit and a JTK Keyset, not the most high-end stuff, but certainly an upgrade from his Blackwidow Chroma
Interesting, the current diffuser works with my zeal stabs lol. Just assembled another viper v2 using a Zeal stabs
It seems that the front diffuser thickness isn't the same in every kit as said a few posts ago. So maybe a thicker diffuser can interfere with Zeal's stabs.
I've generated a hex file with my custom keymapping using 02D_KeyMapper_Custom_v1.8.622, and tried to flash it using dfu-programmer (that I use to flash my other keymaps). The erase/writing works fine, but the keyboard is not working afterwards (no LED's light up etc). :-[ Anyone have any luck with custom keymaps?

Maybe try 1.10.653? https://gist.github.com/ankailou/0b3f3183429536d86ecf4e7d27860b6c Is what I followed to set mine up and I was able to get it to work pretty consistently and get all my layers and function layers programmer how I wanted them.

I'm also thinking about trying to get QMK running on the second pcb I got from you :) Just need to sit down and figure out the row and column matrix first. I might give it some work this weekend...
Sounds good, thanks for the headsup! The board works originally when unflashed so I'm pretty sure it's not a soldering issue etc. Trying this now :D

I do find it a little tricky; I've had the best luck assigning my keys, saving to a file, putting the board into boot loader mode then doing the upload. If I have to change anything I exit the mapper and restart it and open my last saved file and repeat the previous steps. I ran into different issues if I changed keys without saving or did multiple saves before uploading; but that might just be me.
Last question, did you guys manage to get the media keys working in Mac? It kind of works if I mash a few media keys together, but it's not working when I press individual keys. :(
Heys guys,
Im new to custom mech. Do i need to download anything after putting all the the parts together? Or just plug in and type?
I want to use ANSI layout
Thanks guys

Got the diffuser materials. It's a bit more translucent than stock but handles light transmission/diffusion a bit better - shouldn't be any color distortion. Going to get them made tomorrow! :thumb:
Hey, just got my Viper built and programmed, running into a couple small issues that I can't seem to find the answers for anywhere.
The first is in re: to the RGB PCB LEDs. I have the controls programmed into the fn layer and they seem to be working. What I can't seem to find is a way to have the LEDs be a single color that doesn't fade or do anything at all on key press. I would love for the PCB LEDs to just be a single static color. Does anyone have any tips for this?
Second, my indicator LEDs are not functioning. They appear to be fine but they will not light up at all. Haven't had issues with the indicators with any other Duck board. Any tips? Am I missing something stupid?
Thanks

Show Image(https://i.makeagif.com/media/4-28-2017/mZGIvB.gif)Finally. Such a small project but it took forever! Sorry about the timing folks. So I've spoken to smittysteve and he's going to start mailing off invoices in the next day or two. Once everyone has paid I'll post tracking details via a spreadsheet. I think a week long deadline should be fine for such a small amount right? I really need to handle the shipment in one swoop if possible... Also, the new material is more "clear" than the original but fear not, the edge looks almost identical (the only part you see) and it handles light better by a minute amount! I'm very happy with how they finally turned out.
Pricing:
USA: $10 shipped w/ tracking + $5 for each additional diffuser
International: $18 shipped + $5 for each additional diffuser
**International tracking won't exist outside of the USA, it's too expensive for such a small item. After it clears customs you will be on your own.

Please let me know if you guys have any questions/concerns. Hopefully this time next week these will be on their way!

For the RBG PCB LED's, FWIW there is no static color that doesn't have some sort of effect. In order to get it a uniform color without a fade/effect, you would need to open up O2D and set all values in the RGB editor to the same value.
Picked up my Eagles brother in a trade a while back. Upon arrival, there was some cosmetic damage on the exterior of the top case due to bad shipping practices. It was refinished at the shippers expense and I chose to go with a finer bead blast @ 120grit and a clear anodize. The end result is a finer matte finish opposed to the shiny silver :thumb:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/YwqzxSO.jpg)

Wow, that's an amazing remake! How much the refinishing costed, and where did you get it? Thanks again! It would be amazing to know there's a way to save it should anything bad happens.

I had the work done at a local shop and it cost me about $90 for strip, bead blast and re-ano.

Sorry for the late reply but I was finally able to test this; in Windows they work 100% but in macOS 10.12.5 beta they only work about once a second. If I press volume up with a second delay between each then each one will increment the volume; if I spam volume up then it'll only increase about once a second. Not sure why it does this.
They're being packed from what I have been told!!!!!!!

In my case, I chose to build my Viper with vintage blacks which lacked the PCB mounting posts commonly found on PCB mounted switches.

That's true only for WYSE vintage blacks though. I always try to put some PCB mounted switches on the corners and edges of the board just to hold the plate in place, in case the plate is not perfectly flat.
Ok all tracking should be out... If you're an international order you may have gotten two separate tracking numbers from stamps.com - ignore the first one. My printer went a little nutty on me and I had to reprint the labels - hence new tracking. If there's any questions please contact me. I will be contacting a few folks that I need more info from, so keep your eyes peeled.
Cheers!

Thanks for doing this Steve and Danny. All of your hard work is appreciated!
Diffuser package received thankyou so much!No problem! To answer your question - yes. You have to program in a few options on the function layer: RGB Mode, RGB Sel+ and RGB Sel-. Pretty self explanatory but RGB Mode cycles through the different modes - breathing, color cycling, rainbow, heartbeat, solid etc. Then with RGB Sel+ and RGB Sel- you can switch the colors once in solid mode. RGB Sel+/- kinda do different things for different modes but for solid it cycles through the colors you have preset in O2D.
Quick question anyone know how to get a single color to stay on it seems duck built-in lighting modes has every thing but that.. any help would be appreciated.

No problem Elton - for you, anything... I see a few of you guys have started to receive them - awesome!
On another note... I have some keyboard porn for you guys. Sorry for the phone pics... it's all I have. These are new old stock Nixdorf's (AFAIK the only NOS known and yes, I already sold the other half). I was really lucky and got ahold of the board long ago out of Finland for an incredible price (dude had no idea what he had) and finally cannibalized the switches after about 6 months of indecisiveness. Needless to say they're incredible. I also combined the Nixdorf screw-in-stabs with Zeal's to recreate the "Nixdorf" feel of a clear base with black stem. Although the body of the stab isn't milky-white like a true Nixdorf, I love the way it looks. More pics below (with our new screw-in compatibly diffuser)... I really love this board, it's definitely the nicest one I own! Now I just need Merlin's weight and it will be complete!

I found there are several screw holes in the center of bottom housing that are not used when assembling.
Also, the PCB/Plate are fixed on the top case. So there are some space between the PCB and the bottom housing.
So I'm wondering if there is any weight-insert or adds-on for the viper since it seems that some space are reserved?

Does anyone know what each LED embedded into the top case corresponds to?
I'm assuming they're capslock, scoll lock, and numlock but what are the others?
Also, am I correct in guessing that the flat side of the blob on the PCB denotes the negative leg of the LED?
Anyone here making switch top removal plates (the one aaron sent?). I'm gonna have one made by big blue saw and was wondering if anyone was already doing it and I could pitch in for cheaper prices or...I could do it.What is the quoted price for that? I'm more interested in a brass plate if that's an option.
A single plate with basic finishing shipped to Seattle, WA will cost me $122.31. It will be cheaper via lasergist, but they are way too slow and I'm excited, and I emailed lasergist a few days ago and still haven't received a reply.
If I up it to 5 units it will be roughly $59 + shipping per person. Except me of course =P.

Ok, so BBS doesn't have a brass option.
And that's 3 people so far...and maybe a 4th if Gaiden is in. So looking for 1-2 more people

And there you guys have it! Thanks Aaron! Would you mind reposting the link..I've had a couple people ask me for it already.
I'm only doing the non HHKB btw.
Hi guys, i've never track with EMS before, so will they deliver to our front door by usps? or we need to come to their office to pick it up? is it require signature?
On my shipping status said Deliver attempted is that means out for delivery or its been delivered but no one at home to take it?

Check your mailbox. From my experience, sometimes they stick it on my front door or place it in the mailbox.
Anyone has a link for how to install holtites? pushing the holtites down into pcb is too painful because the hole is too tight, cant even feel my fingers anymore :'(

Super seconded. I'm hoping to use holtites on this board.
For my pcb, it requires a lot of force for the holtites to go all the way down and stick into the pcb (not sure if that's normal?) I did use a thin metal stick to put on top of the holtites and use my thumb to push it doww, thats why it hurts so much :(Anyone has a link for how to install holtites? pushing the holtites down into pcb is too painful because the hole is too tight, cant even feel my fingers anymore :'(
Stop using your fingers! :p
A soldering iron does the job fine, or if you don't have one then use something thin enough to push it in. I used a small screwdriver to push them in and a soldering iron to heat them a little and hold them better.

that's a good idea! How do they compare with bandaids/cosmetic tape?
Just have a short question. Why do we need to put weight on Viper/Eagle?Here's a short answer: Super size me. We must do it because we can. Wallets must be emptied. It's a vanity plate for your luxury Keeb 🙂
They are already heavy enough?... it doesn't move at all when typed?..

It's to weed out the weak from the strong.

Here's the info that Lasergist requested, let me know if you need anything other than what is listed.
Plate Thickness: 1.5 mm
Height: 103.9mm
Width: 285.75mm
Path Length(total): 4887.588mm
Additionally, I asked them to verify that the plate measures 11.25″ by 4.0906″.

Silly question for those who have used plate mount switches - Do you ever get a bit paranoid that it could possibly damage the PCB someday, since it's floating and only sustained by solder joints?
I was going to try buying some Vintage Blacks for a different keyboard but that thought made me hesitate. I know I'm probably worrying for nothing though, but I thought I'd ask since some of you have used them in these Viper 2's!
On a side note: If you want a good home for your Viper V2, let me know! :(
anyone know what the screw size is on the bottom holes?

Given how long it's taking in the BlackBird weight buy, it's going to be a loooooong time to get this (that prior buy needs to end before this one begins), so you might want to cut your hype for a while :(

Thinking of changing the supplier to cut down on the time?
Did many people purchase extra PCBs? Are there any available? I may have killed my board and will possibly need a replacement.

Same, almost killed my board while desoldering, my pcb is ****ed up now but still able to work, not sure if i need to replace it in the future
Got my kit new but second hand, I'd have bought a spare if I had been in the group buy.
Luckily my board is functional but it's lighting is messed up due to a unfortunate short. If I can't find a new PCB I may just see if anyone is interested in a spare case. Hate to see this thing go to waste.
Just exploring options at the moment. Would also entertain anyone who might be able to repair the PCB.
Excuse my ignorance, but how difficult is it to have a new PCB manufactured?

If you've already got the PCB schematics, all you have to do is plug it into a PCB manufacturer's website and they'll make it for you
If you don't have the files, you'll have to reverse engineer it. Which may take a while depending on how much PCB design you know
Just got a Viper this week :) Love it! I may have missed it, but just wondered if there are any plans for a weight insert?
Also got it programmed last night, can anyone tell me which are the selections I need in the firmware to add hotkeys for LED colour change? I see the LED options, just not sure which one sets the colour.
Cheers! :)

Probably not. Most Korean designers don't like to see copies of their work. Look at what happened with Koala...

I just got a Viper v2 kit yesterday and am thinking about what to do with it. Can you share your specs please? Did you use sip-sockets for those in-switch LEDs?
Quick question, where can one find a good source for Vintage MX Browns? Fantastic looking board by the way!
I used lubed vintage browns and an acrylic plate. QUite a fun feeling as the plate is pretty flexy. I did not use sip sockets for the leds.
Thanks to wodan for the helpful build log and iNViSiBiLiTi for the programming guide!

Do I need sip sockets for mine? any suggestions?
I'm wondering whether to buy the mechanicalkeyboards.com MX Switch Top Removal Tool for the switches. Can they be opened while mounted into the pcb and the plate?
You don't NEED to do anything to them. But if you want you can lube them (I found that a very slim coat of lube on everything but the tactile legs on the stem works well for me, your results may vary).
The switches should not be stickered (like all tactile switches imo) as it makes the stroke longer and thus moves the bump further down the stroke. Gateron based switches also don't have that bit of play between the housings that Cherry switches can have which stickers are supposed to remove. Thus the sticker would also be pretty useless.
If anyone wants to sell their unbuilt Viper v2 kit, PM me! :)
Thanks.
I bought the R6 Purple Zealio Switches (Tactile) for my vipear and eagle. Do I need to lube and sticker them? I'll open them anyway for the sip sockets.

Thanks.
I'll likely be selling mine in the near future. It's not a kit but I had a custom plate made which allows for switch top removal.
Wow people still have unbuilt viper/eagles? How much would those go for?

I've seen it from low 500s to 700s at one point.
But anything over 600 is considered excessive I would imagine regardless of the demand given that the original GB was ran at such "low" price point.
500-550 seems about right.
Sorry for the newbie question. This is my first duck eagle build. For a bottom row 1.25|1.25|1.25|6.25|1.25|1.25|1.25|1.25 which holes should I use the right or the left for the space bar and the rest of the switches - there are tow overlapping holes for each switch?

Put caps on the switches then line them up on the plate/pcb. That will ensure you get the right holes.

Why don't you just post the link for all of us?
I started the build of my duck eagle and viper V2 last night.
First I tested the pcbs. One of them was good the other one had one of the underglow side smd led fallen off (the bottom of the picture). I was able to find it in the packaging. As I result only the top row of smds is lighting? I'm not sure whether this is due to the smd?
http://imgur.com/CIGFOkl
The fallen smd chipped two of the pads, which are now glued to the smd's pins so I think it'll be difficult for me to solder back. Any suggestions of how to fix the problem? Do you think that the missing smd causes the bottom row of smds not to light up? Is it possible to get another pcb?
Unfortunately two of the board pads stuck to two of the smd's pins and chipped off the pcb. It must have happened during transportation because I found the smd led in the packaging. I don't know of any way of soldering the smd led back to the pcb. I tried last night to solder it but to no avail. Any suggestions?

So.. who have made the weight insert for their viper v2?We are weighting for Merlin to finish the other GB. Last update there is he is getting the corrected weights next week and then will ship out.

Yep, and my current understanding is that when he does the Eagle/Viper weight, he'll just be ordering his own bulk instead of a groupbuy so that they can be sold all at once without wait.

You'll have better luck on mechmarket over the GB thread.
I have an announcement.
I have strayed from my usual build schedule..and actually built my Duck Eagle in less than a year. lol.
I put in Gateron Yellows and holtites! I've been looking for a linear switch that suits me for the longest time, and I have to say these yellows feel fantastic!!
MechMerlin is dead. This is MechMorganLeFay. lolIt was more straight forward than I thought. Thank to this guide https://gist.github.com/ankailou/0b3f3183429536d86ecf4e7d27860b6c
Having keyboards in pieces takes up more room than built keyboards. I've endeavored to finish all my projects this summer and I'm doing great so far!
I'm very surprised with how these yellows feel. I think sometimes we get so caught up in the whole Kustom game that we think only custom switches belong in our keyboard. I'm very happy and very pleased with these yellow despite them being stock lol. In the future I may decide to lube them, but I hope it doesn't ruin their feel. I just have to figure out how to use the software to program it now.
I'd much rather use QMK.
I'd much rather use QMK.
Just don't forget to program a software reset key (it's not like I've ever done that before :)) ).

LOL. What did you do to put it in reset? Did you like have to find the reset pins on the microcontroller and short them?
Where can I find the firmware of eagle V2
After I reset the key, the computer didn't recognize my eagle
Asking for help, I don't know how to go on
Has anyone else been experiencing some crazy keychatter/ key debounce issues? It seems like o2d has an incredibly fast debounce time because I get random key chatter on keys all the time. Really annoying never having a functioning keyboard when I spent so much money on it.

The bottom right pad doesn't look soldered properly...pressing caps lock if it's in the position between tab and shift is probably disturbing it . I'd reflow the solder and maybe even add a bit more to itI did exactly this to all 4 led pads(loosened the solder). Will give it another go however with more solder this time.
Does anyone here want to help me test my QMK port? I got it working on my Eagle with the standard layout (typing this message on a qmk powered duck eagle v2). Was wondering if anyone with a non standard layout or a viper would be willing to test for me to see how it works for them. Thank you!

LED 15 is official destroyed :'(, resulting in LED 16 being non funtional. LED 15, I have pulled 2 of the traces from the PCB, is it possible to wire these up from LED 14?

Yeah I'm really angry with myself, on the positive side, it's LED 15 and not LED 1. Ugh..I'm so sorry to hear that. This is one issue I have with Duck PCBs, pads are too fragile.
I really hope it's not, because I have a stab screw over 2 switch led holes, and it would mean I've destroyed the led for no reason. Either way I won't know because the affected LEDs pads a ripped off.The bottom right pad doesn't look soldered properly...pressing caps lock if it's in the position between tab and shift is probably disturbing it . I know this is unrelated, but double check if your stabs are shorting anything.

I **believe** that the RGB LEDs are WS2812B types so if you jumper the pins on the LED 15 to LED 14 and LED 16 properly they should work. The datasheet is here: http://www.seeedstudio.com/document/pdf/WS2812B%20Datasheet.pdf (http://www.seeedstudio.com/document/pdf/WS2812B%20Datasheet.pdf). This will depend on which pads are lifted. For instance if you lifted the DIN pad on LED 15, you'd need to jumper the DOUT pin on LED14 to the DIN pin on LED15. If you lifted the DOUT pad on LED15 you'll need to jumper DOUT on LED15 to DIN on LED16. The other ones should just be one to one, VDD to LED 14 VDD, VSS to LED 14 VSS.
I'm not 100% sure they are WS2812Bs but after looking at and running the QMK firmware they seem to respond like WS2812s and they are the 4 pin package of the WS2812Bs. If you aren't comfortable with any of this then probably dig deeper since I'm not 100% sure and don't want to mess anything up further!
This is correct. I ordered a few strips of 10 from here and had a good experience.

I can also send you a wiring diagram for how the pins connect from LED to LED if you want to give it a shot. Duck was kind enough to provide this a while ago as I’ve had a couple of LED issues as well. Pm me if you’d like that.
Repaired, thanks for the help everyone.Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180105/b4bf38d0f9e9fa7be8d16e6c2a41187a.jpg)
Has anyone else been experiencing some crazy keychatter/ key debounce issues? It seems like o2d has an incredibly fast debounce time because I get random key chatter on keys all the time. Really annoying never having a functioning keyboard when I spent so much money on it.
hmm, seems like i'm not the only one haha. I thought it was my switch since I used some old Clear but turned out it might be the pcb that caused it :-/
Any chance of this running again? I missed out on v2 and would love to get a Viper rather than a Tina-C. Thanks!

There's a remake of Viper v1 in the works, but it's tray mount and has an updated design.

Would this also have a plate, or just a PCB? I'm most interested in a nice aluminum HHKB. I like Noxary, too, but it's hard to get when it's raffle based.

Does he have any V2 PCB's he'd like to sell. I could really use a functional V2 pcb.

but haven't found any GB information (though in Korean)
Would really love another run of this :( I need an extra PCB because this is my favourite keyboard of all time and would be devastated when/if it stops working.
E6-V2 pcb? Is it the QMK or bootmapper pcb?Would really love another run of this :( I need an extra PCB because this is my favourite keyboard of all time and would be devastated when/if it stops working.

the center USB one, they're the same size
and i haven't tested it, but this is what i have heard
Yes they are. I don't think the underglow will line up properly though.

Exclusive did really reach me to help him point this out.
He is really kind to you guys!
There are two points after the PCB comparison
1. The distance between switches in e6 pcb is less than the one in viper --> means the e6 pcb is not compatible with viper plate
2. The width of e6 pcb is larger than viper --> means you need to cut it narrower first if you insist to use one with your own plate
3. the USB port position is exactly same, also the MCU position --> means no change need to be made about the case
So the conclusion:
1. can, but need more work
So correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like it's just a plate issue. The Viper and Eagle files are available already =).
Just putting this out there but I'd like to see more PCBs made available.
Why would Duck want that :(
Of course, I never even thought. My PCB is in pretty bad shape so would be interested, if at all possible for a mini pcb run with Ducks blessing.
Makes me wonder if there isn't a PCB ninja in the community who could help with a GB to produce compatible aftermarket PCBs.
Does anyone know if I can install an led strip to the PCB?
I really hate the 3 black spots on the front diffuser.
The LEDs are fine, I think it's because I'm using purple and it's not very bright, doesn't spread very well on the front diffuser.
Most boards have a cluster of tracers bundled together, the V2 has 7, I know some boards use these for LEDs like the gh60 and was hoping the same for the V2.
They look like they will help a lot, not sure if it can be powered by the PCB though? The LEDs are fine, I think it's because I'm using purple and it's not very bright, doesn't spread very well on the front diffuser.

Try EL wire
im not sure about the PCB
So I'm a new proud owner of an Eagle v2!
Love the board, but have run into an issue using it on my work VDI. With my home PC, everything operates as expected, but once I plug it into the work machine the computer is inputting more than one stroke per key. I've typed this all just normally... but if I had started it on the work machine it would look like:
ssssooo iiiii''''mmm
It did this upon receiving the board, but I have since flashed it with 02D and changed the layout... but the issue persists. Any thoughts / experience with this?
Thanks!

Just wondering if any one has a extra eagle top or one they would want to park with, i would be willing to buy.Good luck getting someone to split their top from their bottom. It might be easier to buy a whole new eagle unless someone ruined their bottom piece.

Where would be the best place to see if i could get a weight for the **** viper v2?

I would check Geekhack/reddit periodically in the next few months....
I as well looking forward to making this heavy AF :thumb:smittysteve is arranging a viper/eagle V2 and Jetfire weight GB.
Where would the weight go? o.o

There's a space for it in the bottom case.

Specifically on the top portion of the bottom half of the case (i.e. on the inside, below the PCB).

better than average tray mount imo
EDIT: didn't read it right
check the solder and check if any of it touches the bottom case
make sure you clipped all the ends of the leds if you soldered them in
try a different cable and usb port
can't give you much more advice myself, hopefully someone else knows more

My bad, sorry for the confusion, I meant the underglow. I haven't install or solder any switch LEDs yet, I was just testing the underglow, and it stopped working on both the bottom case and my desk mat...

Swap the cable, and check if all the usb pins are snug.
I had the same issue when one of my leds was missing except they would light up in series except for the leds cut off by the missing one
If they all flash when plugged in I wouldn't imagine they're broken. Sounds to me like they are turned off in memory, change the LED mode and make sure brightness is on full.
In the programming software(can't remember the name of it) open the led menu and reset it to default, save and flash.

I fixed my blackbird's underglow and recorded it there, maybe it'll give you some insight. I'd usually try to put more some brainpower into helping you out, but I'm swamped with work right now.
Note that I did fix it incorrectly, because I wired the data lines wrong and will correct that soon. The LEDs are WS2812Bs.

You mean O2D right? I did what you said, and still no underglow. I went ahead for more testing: I used a 3mm LED to touch the contact point of each underglow LED, and it lit up(as shown in the pic). Now I’m suspecting this is not a problem on software level....but let me know if this isn’t the right way to test.Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180525/532b5e4ba0b3a03d53cacb00a035f002.jpg)

so, duck has said he doesn't want to do it again, but he's running v3s in the same sequence that he ran v2s, so wait and see what happens after octagon v3
i have heard nothing confirming or denying
Does anyone know when the v3 will be live? Sorry, I'm new to the community.
Is 3 happening?
