Post your G80-1800 pictures
« on: Sun, 16 September 2012, 19:28:19 »
Well since everything else has one of these threads, now the G80-1800's do too!

Since this is my 420 post, i'll start this off with the one and only Green G80-1800 from a custom order by Sailor Radio Company back in 1984.

Originally came with all black-on-beige Cherry double shots that I cannot find my picture of. So here it is with MBC's RGB set and i3oilermaker's billards set

And another with CCnG

The green case is an original direct from Cherry , not a 3rd party job. It is in fact painted green, not molded as green

But painting is the same way they finish any of these customer boards. Here is another custom 1863 on top with the same sort of painting visible from the bottom

The PCB is pretty dirty and nothing special. So until I can clean that up, I just put the top half of the case onto an 1863 with white-on-black Cherry double shots

Side shot to see half green/black Frankecase

Nice. I actually prefer the green top/black bottom with the black DS :)

The G80 1800's too me, are the MOST beautiful keyboard Cherry has ever released.

It's unique and has a style all it's own.  No other manufacturer has made anything similar to it's layout.  Thank you for showing us your baby, she is mighty fine.

In fact every time I see your CC&G's in that 1800, I start quivering.

That looks fantastic!

But how can you concentrate on your work with such a magnificent display in the corner of your eye?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Oh, it's not an 1800, it was some weird terminal model before 1000 series that had a plate. Also some 2000 models have partial plate with the top rows of function key, but that is all to my knowledge.
There was some aftermarket modded from Asia with plate for 1800 and 3000, but that dosen't count. I saw a couple of those for sale on taobao not too long ago.

Just got this lovely board. Originally it was MX Brown, and I modded it to MX Red, then realized that the MX Red space key just too "soft" to me so am now planning to change it to Black or linear Gray.

This board is a customized edition by Cherry China Agency, to commemorate China's first CS world Champion team, the wNv. The proto model of the board is G80-1865LYNEU-2, and then the upper cover is customized for white lacquer baked with black "WNV-TEAMWORK" and Cherry logo. Four additional white on red double shot key caps come with this board, which are Esc, W, N, V, and the red W is profiled as Cherry E profile, which is abnormal compairing with other Cherry W keys.

It is said only 500 were produced for this wNv edition board, but extra amount of the single white on red double shot Esc key were made for some unknown reason.

Finally some more pictures of and details about the scitex 1824 HAU

It is quite the beautiful board, and I am thankful tinlong sold it to me :)
The keys are pretty much unused, but some are scratched and the case is especially scratched. So it looks like it just moved around on a shelf for its whole life.

The color of all the keys & case is the same dark gray color from a dolch keyboard

And yes the Blue F1-F8 keys are double shot

Inside & outside labels match with G80-1824HAU.
The "A" part of the model name doesn't match, as per the wiki it should have black switches & DIN cable.
It actually has clear switches & ps2 cable.....so its either another Cherry model number mystery or it was modded by someone at some point in its life
