From what I've played so far (two hours) it's a pretty solid game. Balanced first person shooter base, with tons of great RPG elements like classes, talent trees, a metric assload of equipment (guns, shields, accessories), experience, quests, etc. The cell shaded styling is also pretty damn cool, and lets them get away with pushing the intensity of the scenery without any lag.

Just wanted to see what other peoples thoughts on it were. I could see it being a bit grindy, but that's kind of the nature of RPG's (if you want them to be)

It's rare fps/rpg hybrids do it right. Also about 15 or so hours in...great game. Youre right in the Diablo reference. A lot of choosing the right weapon, equipment, upgrades, talents for your tree to min max your playstyle. It's pretty interesting. Combined with the four classes, should give some decent replayability.

Talking to a few friends, they didn't like it. They said it felt too grindy, and very monotonous. I can see that. The same way Diablo is the same all the way through. This doesn't ruin it for me. I didn't go into the game expecting "COD 4 in the wastelands" though...I was expecting Fallout 3, with less story and more RPG stuff.

i simply havent caught onto the hype because since the beginning it looks like a ripoff/combination of fallout 3 and tf2

I've played a few hours. Currently a level 16 soldier. It gets a bit boring in single player. I'll try to organise some sessions with friends.

I'll wait and pick it up when it lands in the bargain bin for $5. I've got an absurdly huge backlog of games to work through, so there's seldom a reason to purchase anything right off the bat. I finished Muramasa last week, and am working my way through FFIV: The After Years, and Scribblenauts in my spare time.

Not really close to either of those. Anyone who has played FO3 or Oblivion, knows those games rely on an exploratory factor. That, and there's no fear of dying in Fallout or Oblivion. Borderlands can be pretty challenging the whole way through (except for the end)

I can see the Boardem (see what I did there). I guess if someone went in expecting a COD4 style gameplay, they won't find them being walked through zone after zone. It's much more played out like an RPG. Get this, go back to this town, rinse repeat. Thankfully by the time you get out of the first zone, you can teleport from one zone to another. The randomized gun system is also pretty cool (can be devastatingly easier if you get a decent gun you can use frequently). That said, I won't say the game is mind-blowing. It requires you to like RPG games, and their playstyle. It requires liking first person shooters as well. I found it exciting from start to finish (although the last couple bosses near the end were easy for my Soldier). Second playthrough is not quite as riveting as I had hoped, as quests XP doesn't scale with your level, and it's more about questing to progress through the game, than it is about questing for XP.

In all, a worthy play if you were a fan of Deus Ex or Diablo

no challenge in dying?
fallout 3, peddling gear for hours, with no food supplies, and stumbling across some raiders...

then again, i dont use the "fast travel" crap in these games.  completely ruins the entire point.
