[IC] DSA Sencha (Massdrop Poll Now Live!)
« on: Thu, 03 November 2016, 19:12:53 »
I've never used GeekHack before nor have I designed a set so bear with me.

DSA Sencha
Based off the hues and origins of Sencha, a Japanese green tea, SA Sencha has light green (VAV) + dark green (VF) mods alongside it's yellow-white (YCC) alphas. Sencha is an ABS set.
The add-ons (as of now) are some novelties (which I would especially appreciate feedback on), a numpad kit, icon mods, an Ergodox kit, a Planck kit, a ISO kit, a JD40/MiniVan kit, and a alternate number row featuring the numbers and symbols in Kanji.

Base Kit

Icon Mods

UDPATED: Novelties

Alternate Number Row

Numpad

ISO Kit

Ergodox Kit

UPDATED (AGAIN): Planck Kit

UPDATED: Tsangan Kit

NEW: MiniVan/JD40 Kit

NEW: Homing Kit

Sample 60%

Worklog:
11/3/16: Initial IC
11/6/16: Updated with JD40/MiniVan kit
11/7/16: Updated Planck Kit with extra shift and "tea" key, updated Tsangan kit with 2x1u Alt keys, a 1.5u Control, and a 1.5u Alt.
11/8/16: Updated Novelties with GeekHack and /r/MechanicalKeyboards keys, and added Homing Kit
11/8/16: ADDED MASSDROP POLL, GO VOTE!
11/9/16: Changed Planck Kit: Removed arrow keys (already come in base set) and added a beige and a dark green space bar. Fixed Homing kit

To Do List:
-Finalize kits
-Get 2D renders
-Get 3D renders
-Get info on pricing and timeline
-Figure out where to try to sell
-Collect and implement suggestions
-Start Massdrop Poll
-Update Tsangan kit to include missing keys for HHKB and WKL layouts: 2x1u Alt keys, a 1.5u Control, and a 1.5u Alt.

Questions for You:
-Interested in buying?
-DSA or SA? (or GMK?)
-Thoughts on the kits?
-Do you like the novelties? What novelties do you think need to be added?
-Did I mess anything up?

NEW: MassDrop Poll! GO VOTE! ;D

I'm not very experienced in this either, but the renders look good.  Personally I'm not a fan of the yellowish alphas, but the rest looks great to me. Good job.

Novelties are awesome :D. Im assuming this will be dyesubbed? It would also be nice to add an alternate alpha kit just like the otaku keyset :D

Thanks for the feedback. As for alphas, I'm worried about whether that set would tip but would happily produce it if there was interest. My other concern is that my Japanese is a Google Translated trainwreck, but I suppose that wouldn't matter for the majority.  ;D
Not sure about dyesubbing. I don't know the limitations of both dyesub and doubleshot all too well but I'd obviously ideally like to go with the highest quality printing I can.

The yellowish alphas are the same material as Penumbra's (not for the legends) so you can see real photos of the color in action if you want to see something a little more accurate and determine if you like it. Thanks for the feedback, and I'm especially surprised to see that people like the render, seeing as it's the placeholder for until I get an actual render done.

Thanks jchan, your feedback means a lot. I was a little unsure about the novelties at the start, but I feel a little more confident now  :thumb:

This is not my type of colour scheme as I'm not too big on green on my boards most the time but I will say the novelties are great and the set definitely looks very nice. Best of luck!

By the way: Am I missing anything in the Tsangan kit? People have some real strange keyboard layouts.

Any chance for some 40% love (MiniVan)? Very nice color way, hope this makes it to production.

Completely agree with this, further more I'd buy this.

As long as the layout covers ISO-UK, HHKB, and WKL then it's a 10/10 for me.

Updating with JD40 and MiniVan kit as we speak. PLEASE tell me if it's missing any keys for anyone's layouts, I've never actually used a 40%.  :-X

ISO should be covered by the ISO kit. As for HHKB and WKL, it seems the Tsangan kit is only missing 2x1u Alt keys and and another pair of a Control key and an Alt key in 1.5u, which I'll add as soon as I can.

Unfortunately I don't think I can. Looking at this photo:

there doesn't seem to be a yellow that works with the set. If I receive a great deal of interest in GMK Sencha I could try to swap the yellows with whites. I'll add a poll to the OP so I can gauge interest in what people would prefer.

Any chance of an extra Shift in the Planck set? I think the alternative layout with two shifts (L and R) is quite popular.

Done! Also added a "TEA" key just in case their needs aren't met with any of the other caps.

I wanted to thank everyone for all the support I've been getting. The massdrop poll is now at 160 votes, with only 1No Thanks, which is pretty absurd.

However the support has been dropping off rather quickly, so I feel I need to breathe new life into the poll periodically to draw more people in. So my next steps are to get 2D and 3D renders done as soon as I can. I've sent some messages out, but if you (a) do either 3D or 2D renders or (b) know someone who does, let me know.

I've also seen some suggestions for an International kit. I don't want to spread myself too thin kit-wise and risk starting a child deal that won't tip and will leave a lot of people with a refund being the only option (already a bit worried I've done that already), so I would like some feedback on whether more compatibility through an International kit is important to you.

Thanks again for all the support.  :thumb:

A very nice set.

Though, (and this is just my opinion), wouldn't another profile (not DSA) interest people more? I've seen a lot of people not bother for keysets, just because they were DSA.

I'm cool with DSA though.

What's with the 1u AltGr in the ISO kit? A 1.25u and a 1.5u would make much more sense for most (if not all) layouts. Thank you for the well-thought-out kit though, it is rare that an Alt-Gr is included, let alone two!
