Any Hakko soldering iron owners here?
« on: Wed, 20 September 2017, 13:11:10 »
I've been using an FX-888D for a few years and was thinking about replacing the tip with something wider. How are the clone tips (ie Aoyue) compared to Hakko make?

I've heard that it is worth it to just get the hakko tips, but I don't really know.  I just got a fx600 in the mail yesterday and want to buy some other tips for it and was planning to just get the hakko ones, but if the knock offs are decent i might get those instead.

I've used generic tips without any noticeable problems. Most tips are made equal, just iron plated copper. Some tips with a thicker copper core might hold heat a little better, but I think what makes Hakko soldering irons consistent and stable is their circuitry.
