I recently spotted this strange-looking keyboard in a museum display.
It has some unusual features - it's non-staggered, the bottom row is offset, and the return key is oversized in an unusual place.
The basic layout seems better than the standard Qwerty staggered design in some ways. The N key should be better in that position, as should the return key. Weird that there's only one shift key though. And the spacebar is too big for my liking.
Regarding the offset bottom row, it made me think you could transpose this approach onto a standard staggered keyboard - effectively shifting the right hand bottom-row keys. A bit like the
angle mod but on the right hand side instead of the left. So you would end up with something like this:
Q W E R T Y U I O P [ ]
A S D F G H J K L ; '
Z X C V / B N M , .
i.e. You would then type bottom row keys with the following fingers:
index fingers for C V B N /
middle fingers for X M
ring fingers for Z ,
pinky for .
