hello geekhack!
« on: Tue, 27 November 2012, 03:28:13 »
hello ladies and gentlemen,

dropping by to say hi!

i have owned 2 mechanical keyboards total.  the first one was the coolermaster quickfire pro (brown switches).  i got rid of that because it never agreed with my motherboard.

i currently am using Rosewill's rk-9000bri (brown switches, white body).    I am taking a risk with the usb cable based on the reviews, i am using a 90 degree mini usb cable to avoid accidentally hitting it.  and i have searched around and i recall someone mentioning that those keyboards made by rosewill that were manufactured in 2012 do not have the usb problems.

only time will tell :)

Yeap, the newer rosewills have a more reinforced port, which should be fine :)

Welcome to Geekhack!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I wouldn't say the problem is completely gone. The USB port is superglued down now, but the design is still the same where the mini-USB connector is soldered to the PCB. Rosewill needs to do what CM or ducky did by adding channels to hold the cable so it doesn't stress the USB port.
