I don't know much about the Ergodox keyboard, how is it possible for them to be worth $1350? Is this seller serious?
-
well not THAT much..
I'd say, assembled.. $75 is a reasonable markup for labor + $15 shipping..
So $90 over the parts..
It can't take more than 2 hours to put together by someone experienced..
-
So how much do you think it is worth?
This is the quote the seller gave me for this keyboard.
-base parts for ergodox keyboard (PCB's with screens, mounting plates, screws and bits and bobs) $400
-keycaps $200 (a doubleshot 108 keyset, plus a range of custom made backlit ones)
-78 mx cherry brown switches $120
-sip sockets $30
-LEDs $50
-Cables $30
$830
+time spent researching, planning, pulling apart key switches to insert the sip sockets, soldering, configuring the software etc
+premium since I know it's impossible to get one of these within the next 6-9 months until the next massdrop happens.
+ebay seller fee (if we do it offline I'll lower the price by $100 off the price below)
Given all of that, I'll only consider any offers near $1100

Yea, this guy is crazy with those quotes.

I just bought an ErgoDox EZ - Assembled, with wrist rests, no LEDs (didn't want them) delivered in less than 2 weeks from Taiwan. $325 w/shipping.
-
That price is in AUS dollars. It's $987.81 US, which is still ~$200 over what it might be worth fully assembled, tested, with keycaps, cables, and lots of other bells & whistles (lube & sticker, full backlighting, etc).
-
I would maybe pay $300 for it... maybe. It's definitely not worth close to that amount. Browse the forums or /r/mm and you'll find one for ~$2-300. No, it may not have that lighting, but if you're that crazy about it, add it yourself.

Those price quotes are insane. He's either trying to rip you off or he seriously overpaid for switches, LEDs, and everything else.

... and a nice meal, a few drinks and perhaps a pair of matching yappy dogs.

lol No.
