Awesome pictures :)

It's in the works.  It won't be compatible with these alps though, just your standard SKCL/SKCM Alps.

nubbinator: I guess I can wait for the review, but have you tried various SKCL switches or later Alps switches/clones? Would be interesting to hear how you think these pcb-mount switches compare.

I’ll try to take some nice 'Alps porn' pictures to add to this thread soon. Do you folks think SMK alps-mount (“monterey”) and Omron B3G-S switches count for this category?

Anyhow, for the moment, here are some pictures from a bit ago:

Pictures of the laptop sans keycaps, and then the keycap tops:

Keycaps top and bottom (one thing I don’t at all understand is why “End” uses mixed-case letters, while “HOME” is all caps):

Thank you sir!

Not shown though is that the stepped caps lock doesn't fit. Pretty disappointed, the PCB/plate is set up for some caps lock that's off center but not quite off center enough... Still trying to figure out a good solution to that one.

You could try stem modding.

I have a few of these caps locks as well, so I'm not afraid of ruining one.

I'm concerned about stem modding an alps keycap though, since the stem sits inside the switch instead of outside. The best way I've found to stem mod is to use an actual switch for alignment, but I'm afraid I'd end up bonding the switch to the cap

Suggestions welcome :)

Ah yes didn't even think about that. You could replace it with a different switch while glueing maybe? A not that rare one so in case it goes wrong you don't break one of those nice blues. And use just a tiny bit of glue first, you can always add more to fasten it.

Here's some of the Alps boards I have or have borrowed. If you don't know, now you know. #Alpshipster

Omnikey 101 with Blue Alps - from Akimbo's Blue Alps Tour

Apple M0116

Apple AEK II

Siig Minitouch with SMK Plate Mount Alps (Clicky with Blue Slider) aka Monterey Blue Alps

Filco Zero with XM or Fukka White Alps clones. Toshiba laptop keyboard caps.

Filco Zero again: Swapped caps for the caps that came with the board listed in nubbinator's OP, added a custom painted Filco top from Photoelectric

Nubbinator, I really liked those switches on that board. I was just going to toss it after grabbing the caps but now I'm reconsidering it.
