The perfect Monitor for all tasks.
« on: Sun, 28 May 2017, 15:54:21 »
Been looking for years for the perfect one monitor for both color grading and gaming.

I guess you can't have both in one, most color grading monitors are 60hz, unless you go for the GDM FW900 you get both of worlds at cost of a heavy bulky monitor.

Best monitor for color grading and gaming?

I have a separate monitor for gaming than productivity.

One monitor I really like is the one on the Surface Studio. 28" 3:2 aspect, very good color accuracy and his resolution.

If only it was sold separately from the computer base.  :-X

As do I and probably anyone else who does anything but watching movies.  :p

16:9 is particularly bad on laptops as they have no screen height at all.

Once again we agree, TP! The entire interner it 4:2 and SRGB. Go wide screen and gamut with anything other the dev software and it looks horrible.

I've seen tournaments where people are playing on Eizo, which I'd assumed were more for photographers, so maybe those are an option? I quite like the chunky look of them too. They're not exactly cheap however.

Eizo Gaming has been around for a while; I remember they sponsored some SC2 tournaments.

Is there a monitor with this aspect ratio for general PC use available?

I don't know of any 3:2 (15:10) but Dell makes some 16:10 monitors. They work well rotated vertically as well since they feel less narrow than 16:9 does rotated.

For general use ,  there is no reason to buy any of these generic recommendations.

because 4k tvs are so cheap..

I've considered to give that setup a try. However, I think that may work better with at least two monitors side by side.

I fear 42" or 43" 4K is too big. Mostly too tall actually.

I'm hesitating between a 42" 3840x2160 // 103 ppi @ about 750 EUR or a 38" curved 3840x1600 // 110 ppi @ 1300 EUR.

I like the "ratio" of the 38" better but they apparently only come curved and they're 40% more expensive than flat 42 / 43.

Pictures of desks with a 38" just look better IMHO than 42" and to me aesthetic is very important.

So I don't know what to buy. I don't have the opportunity to try both.

I'll report once I'll have picked one or the other.

before the invention of the wheel..

People dragged things along on skids or carried them on their backs..

THEN someone invented the wheel, and everyone was like, OMFG what were we doing.. Not gonna do that no more..

That's how I felt when I changed to a big screen, and moved further back from it..

It sounds ridiculous to put your desk in the middle of the room, or even in the back of the room,  but once you actually USE this setup,  you'd quickly realize,  Wow,  WTF was I doing before, and why doesn't everyone do this..

Take your TV right now,  and give it a try..   however big your tv is,   Put it around 1.5 to 2 meters away at eye level, put the desk straight in front of it..

That setup does sound appealing. Might well go for that when I have the right space. I like the idea of sitting a long way from a screen.

Recently upped my setup with a U2715H, 27" gb-led ips. Black levels could've been better, there is some ips glow (more than om my old trusty U2713HM). But I like it.

Now, for gaming, I would like to get my hands on one of dem Asus ROG Swift PG348Q, but they also cost a fortune.
