Title: PSA: impersonation accounts
Post by: Moderation Team on Thu, 13 December 2018, 17:23:31
Dear geekhack community,

It has come to the moderation team's attention that a member created a secondary account to impersonate a well-known artisan keycap maker, and some of the private messages intended for the keycap maker were sent off to the impersonation account instead.

We'd like to make a public service announcement to please always double-check the account name(s) you send your private messages to--especially messages containing sensitive information.  An impersonation account might look almost like the real thing, with just one character being a symbol that looks slightly different.  Please check the account's post history and make sure you are not simply using auto-complete username suggestion functionality when writing a PM (you can click on the username hyperlink to open its associated account page in a separate tab in order to verify that you are writing to the correct person).

Best regards,
-Mod Team

impersonation is the highest form of flattery

But not when it violates the terms of service.
