awesome! would you be able to do an angled rest? ;D
Veg tan leather ? That's awesome :D
awesome! would you be able to do an angled rest? ;D
Hmm, not sure what you mean by angled. Something like a right triangle for typing with a slightly-rotated keyboard?

he probably meant something like the filco wrist rest (the one on the right)
Could you post more examples of options?
I want to know how many color, dye, stitching, and size options I can choose from.
I can shoot in the dark and ask for something but I'd rather have a better idea first.
i have one of these wrests, and i can attest to the incredibly quality and workmanship, you will not be disappointed

How do you always own everything before I even know it exists? :o
What does "antique hilightning" mean? I don't know how that would change the appearance

how about being able to specify the height of the rest? is that something you could offer?
<snip> and next on the list are some white/red combinations.
<snip> and next on the list are some white/red combinations.
Is that white/red combination as in white leather with red thread? I'd love a white wrist rest (or the idea of one anyway, it probably wouldn't be very practical) but didn't see that as one of the color options in the FAQ.
These look properly nice, one question about the custom artwork... You can buy leather tiles that have a pasley type patern embossed into it, is that something you could do? More curious than anything else but really thinking about ordering a standard one too see how I like using a wrist rest
^^ dolch wrest needs cyan colored threads!
Ahh ok, well more just inquiring than anything else so I've no really though about a patern :P how much extra would something like that cost (to give me a rough idea)?
Okay, I want to order a wrist rest.
But, I want it to fit the HHKB Pro 2, which would mean only 11.5 " long.
As for color, I want a "classic" leather look. The dark brown of your Dolch Prototype shown above looks pretty good. And finally I was thinking of getting a small embossed unicorn in one of the corners, if possible. I would just use my avatar for the pattern of the unicorn. Nothing too big, just something subtle to set my wrist rest apart from others. You can use any other unicorn pattern if you want, I guess. Or just the head would be good enough, if that makes it easier to make it small.
Can you let me know if this is possible? Also let me know what "classic" leather options you have. I know "classic" leather is completely vague. But I mean like classic vintage saddle leather. As for stitching, I don't know if dark stitching or a contrasting light stitching would look better. I guess I would say just use what looks best, based upon what appeals to your expert eye.
Any way for you to get purple thread? Great work btw.

Looks totally doable (I'd want to make it the full height of the rest though, to incorporate more of the detail).
I'll try out a test carving for you and see how it goes.I just picked up that sanctuary rest. Looked to nice to resist. Will be sure to keep you posted on how well it wears over time.

I made this wrist rest just before the holidays--it was the first full size I made with the new mould. I had never tried using latex mask to colour with multiple dyes, either--but it turned out great. I also learned just how long I need to leave leather clamped down to dry fully--almost a week is best.
Since it's a prototype, I wouldn't feel right selling it for full price. I've put it up for 50% off :)

This wrist rest is literally to die for :thumb: . Please say you will be doing more of them in the future especially TKL sizes.
Out of interest what type of glue are you using for the bonding of the top part of the rest to the bottom part?
Hey!, just wondering as this ones quite a long shot haha, but I get that the TKL is $75, and custom art starts at $25, but how much would it cost on a TKL to have these logos, I guess it should be easy for a guy of your talent ;P? http://gyazo.com/7e428fcd329b05599d5d6805f23cf5b3 + another logo but I'd have to send that via PM haha. (:
These look amazing. Can't wait to pick up a TKL one. Definitely needs to be made vendor status.
Is that an ErgoDox rest I spy? If not, would you be able to make a pair?
Current sizes are 60%, TKL, and full size; ErgoDox is still in the prototype stage.
But, I want it to fit the HHKB Pro 2, which would mean only 11.5 " long.
But, I want it to fit the HHKB Pro 2, which would mean only 11.5 " long.
I've started thinking about this and I'm kind of confused. Checking on elitekeyboards and mechanicalkeyboards, they say the HHKB and Poker 2 are both 11.6", which should be 29.5 cm or so.
And then I remembered this post, where people weren't able to fit the HHKB in this keyboard bag because it was too big:
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46167.msg972867#msg972867
I went back and measured my 60%-size and it's a tiny bit bigger (1-2mm) than my Poker, so that the stitches are exactly in line with the case. The actual length is 29.7 cm.
I changed my FAQ to be more accurate on this because 12" != 30 cm (bad Canadian habit of unit-mixing at work).
But .. so how big is a HHKB, actually? Would a 30cm rest be an appropriate size?
i measured my wrist rest and it is a little over 29cm. so i guess 30 cm should be ok.
Any chance of getting an icon like this engraved on a classic kind of look for a TKL? Tan leather with black finishes maybe? I'll leave it up to your expert opinion.
Will probably get one in the near future, little low on funds atm. How much would something like that be and shipping to aus.
Cheers.
Any news on mine? :D

Going to start your test carving with the other batch of those above. I have to clean everything up in my apartment before Thursday (landlord inspection..haha) but I'll set to work on Friday.
Wrist rests for keyjay and brokengame just have their edges curing and will be ready to invoice and ship by Wednesday--I'll have some pics of those as well to show off.

I've also been happy with how the ErgoDox pieces I moulded this week turned out, so I've put in an order to the laser cutter to get the internal pieces made, which is the last big step before these are ready to go. I'm going to be offering two different thicknesses: one for those with the built-in rest Litster case (normal height) and one for the regular Litster case (double height).

I might have some alternate options for leather for you. My wife showed me a brochure from where she works at (professional quality print lab) for some of the leather covers that the do. Some of those would make an AWESOME wrist rest. She said that she would talk to the owner about getting a couple scraps and or some contact info on the supplier side of things. If you might be wondering the company is American Color Imaging. I would give you a link to the actual portion of the site dealing with this but they are in the process of updating the website. This should be a link to the product catalog for these products. (http://www.acilab.com/products/press/riveli-albums/Riveli%20catalog.pdf)
Awesome news on the Ergodox rests, but are the rests that you're making for the classic ergodox case? If they are, could I put in a custom order for a thin leather rest for the full hand case?

Some of that stuff is super nice--thanks for the PDF.
Unfortunately that would be quite a ways off--it's chrome tan leather, which I've made a couple of tries at using but haven't been satisfied with :(
It doesn't mold like veg tan, so I wouldn't be able to use it for the rests without major changes, but for keyboard bags/cases it would be a different story.
Bags/cases are probably going to be my next project after the ErgoDox rests, so if you've got some ideas about what you'd like to see in a carrying case or bag, I would love to hear them!Awesome news on the Ergodox rests, but are the rests that you're making for the classic ergodox case? Yup, I was hoping to offer regular height for those who want an extra rest on top of the full hand case, and double height for those with the classic case.
I'm going to be doing two things in the next couple of days: doing a picture post about the current ErgoDox prototype, and putting that prototype up for (discounted) sale for a beta tester so I can verify the double height works with the classic case.

Here's a pic of the prototype: the edges need sanding and finishing, but it's close to being done.
The colour is chocolate brown, with white stitching and soon-to-be brown edges (I was going for a Retro DSA complement).Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/fkRKOUv.jpg)
I ironed out a couple of spacing issues regarding the stitching, so I don't feel it's perfect, but I think I'm satisfied I've now figured out the design.
If you're interested in the colour, feel free to send me a PM and we can talk :)

Have you decided on a price?
Pricing is on the website.
"You can customize as many or as few options as you would like, but pricing and terms will vary. I start with a base price for each rest size:
$65 for 60%
$75 for TKL
$85 for Full Size
$95 for ErgoDox
Custom dying and thread colours are simplest and will add $0-10 to a quote.
Custom tooling starts at $35 for a small image.
Larger or more complex images will lead to a more expensive quote. Before starting work, I will confirm your final specifications as part of the payment contract."
So it's looking like another wallethack

Same as above, but yots. Keep up the great work. Looks fantastic!
That YotH rest looks amazing! Got any designs lying around for a Year of the Dragon, in the same style?
I am holding off officially taking orders for the ErgoDox until I've got pics/comments in from Binge--but it's going to happen really soon. :thumb:
If you're brainstorming ideas for a Year of the Dragon rest, I can picture something in a bottle green/vintage leather, like an old club chair:
It might be over the top, but crocodile leather comes in a loverly green color as well...
Too tacky?
Doing one in that faux-gator, in dark green, and fitting in the YotD somehow? Oh, yessssssss... :p
doing engravings for full hand ergodox?
i think that horse on one hand and characters on the other hand would look pretty sweet.
How do you feel about that grey dye? I know white is usually terrible to work with. If you're comfortable with it though, I'll be placing an order very soon
How the freaking heck did i miss this and that awesome updated design ErgoDox rest you made. I put in a order for an ErgoDox rest if its actually possible to get an order in (if not :( ok) Your work looks amazing.
This is my current setup, I'm using those bean bag mouse wrist rests which are causing my hands to sweat and they slide around everywhere ruining the ergonomics.

I have the ergodox tented but not to the point one of your wrist rests wouldn't work. it is worth asking if you could make sloped wrist rests? :D though it sounds like you want to stay with a repeatable design
(if anyone was wondering that has followed me, yes i do have the wooden wrist rest prototype kurplop made but i messed it up bad and its too cold outside to fix, so went back to using this setup which doesn't look as nice. Plus i never liked the fact the wood rest was so huge)
You could just get a full had base plate to set the rest on top of. Then the rests would be at the same tenting as the dox.
Just got my wrist rest and I LOVE it! Thank you so much ;D Gonna go pick up some shelf liner tomorrow to keep this bad boy from slipping around.
is it even feasible to add magnets to the wrist rest?
so that it'll be compatible with gaming boards like this: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=114&cp_id=11401&cs_id=1140102&p_id=10579&seq=1&format=2

Sure, I haven't yet had a chance to do anything with that piece of leather really! I want to catch up on some more experimental projects though, like using that leather, for sure.
Any particular colour combination you would like to see? If there are a couple, I might try out some test swatches to see how the embossed leather takes dye actually.

A nice dark emerald green would be my first choice, or perhaps something in black? Can you do two-tone dyes, with "scales" in dark green, and the creases in black?
I've been very impressed with all your work, so if you think of some options you'd like to try I'd trust your direction.

I can send you a higher rez image if that would help.

oh man, and the smell! the smell of them is so nice, my wife thinks im really weird for sniffing these but when i was a kid we used to have horses and my mom fox hunted, the smell brings me back to saddles, straps, boots, and stuff. Good memories all from the wonderful smell of real leather.
Thanks jolonnar! and the shipping she provided was amazing and it was packed really well.

Noko,
Would you be able to create a rest smaller than 60%? This would be for a mouse actually. Length wise no more than 8 inches, width between 2 inches and 2.5 inches.

Shipping out today:If I ever got an Ergo Dox, I would love a wrist wrest like this. It's really nice.
(on another note, imgur is doing really funky stuff...)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/gCzUl83.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/QT9MtvD.jpg)
Sorry for being quiet lately! I've got a bunch of cool stuff to show off, but getting to the computer to upload pics just hasn't happened yet. For one thing, I got new acrylic paint in the mail, and it's great stuff. Going to show some colour samples and a bit of Binge art I messed around with to test them out :)Gorgeous! Vibex, awesome call on the Koi - I want!!

huehuehue-- I can't wait to see some pictures of my impending wrist rests...
I asked quite a bit from Noko and I would not be surprised if she is able to deliver with all of the talent I see thrown around this thread.
A quick note that I got in two new colours for stitching: grey and hot pink. Sample picture in the first post has been updated.
In other news: acrylic paint time!Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/K5lxokU.jpg)
I've made up a better sample card but my camera needs to charge first (plus then I can take it in morning sunlight tomorrow).huehuehue-- I can't wait to see some pictures of my impending wrist rests...

Wow your work is just epic. Every time I check this thread it just gets better and better. I will have to place an order at some point, but I need to nail down what my daily driver is going to be going forward first. :)

Thanks :) I got a couple of light blue/turquoise paint options (and white to lighten them as well) so I should be able to match your logo pretty well, if you would still be interested in that as a design.
Noko, I know you haven't started my order yet but I'd like to change the size to HHKB size.
Thanks.

Unfortunately nope.. these types of leather can't be formed, and you also can't import python to Canada so I wouldn't be able to get it legally even if I could incorporate it :(
Stingray leather comes in small pieces (and it smells distinctly fishy!) so it's got some additional practical issues.
elephant skin? BOOOO
really ? are you kidding me ? i'd pay for the cost of skin and anyway i would be the customer. You make what the customer wants its not about your feeling :( i guess i can try to find another person that works with theses leathers if you don't want to, but i still feel like you should get off your high horse a bit.elephant skin? BOOOO
Yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable with it, sorry acidtrip69 but exotic leather is something I'm not branching out into using
(the croc rest a little while back is a print on vegtan and not the real thing).

I think his back order list indicates your purchase withdrawal would have little impact, nor is there any incentive to go against his morals to appease someone like yourself.
Lol at "you make what the customer wants". You must be a real joy to be around IRL, salespeople must love you.
and i find it funny and sad for you that you judge people that you don't know anything about XD
Nope, i'm sorry you are still wrong ^_^and i find it funny and sad for you that you judge people that you don't know anything about XD
I do tend to make rash judgments based on what I perceive a person to be like from their online person. It is a fault of mine no doubt. I'd like to think I'm just being blunt, but yea my responses can be equally ****ish :D
Nope, i'm sorry you are still wrong ^_^
I'd like to point out it's not simply a question of morality--if it were you could rightly ask me why I think leatherworking is ethical at all (which I do have an answer for, as it's a question I've thought about--but that's a longer post for another time). It's true, though, that I personally would not feel comfortable using elephant leather.
However, I actually did look into the possibility of using non-endangered exotic leather for a customer many months ago. The import laws in Canada are far, far stricter than those in the United States, and even with flawless paperwork for a species that wasn't blanket-banned it would take a huge time investment to handle and resources I don't have. (For example, kangaroo leather is severely controlled here, which any Australian will tell you is pretty silly.) Getting into legal trouble over this isn't worth it.
Neither have I developed a way of using different types of leather in a rest since they can't be moulded in the same way I normally use--again, I've tried a couple of methods, none of which I think do proper justice to either the raw materials nor the level of quality I'm comfortable putting my name on.
In sum there are a lot of considerations I've made here--I just felt I'd let you know early before you spent too much time looking at different leathers.
Hope this clarifies my post a bit more.
if you read the page on the leather saler its all fine and done to code.Nope, i'm sorry you are still wrong ^_^
? Well that didn't make sense. I made a statement about how I form conclusions online, how could one be 'still wrong' about a self-assessment which is a whole other topic. ^_^ Unless I was 'still wrong' about my response being equally ****ish, in which case you may be right, in that you are truly the bigger as*h***.I'd like to point out it's not simply a question of morality--if it were you could rightly ask me why I think leatherworking is ethical at all (which I do have an answer for, as it's a question I've thought about--but that's a longer post for another time). Well said, and yea there is case to be made that one type of leather should not be significantly different than other from a morality standpoint, though I could still understand and respect not wanting to knowing the animal is exotic and the leather may have been sourced using unethical means (poachers) that could be threatening the species

Since you didn't seem to understand jolonnar's post...
1. jolonnar lives and works in Canada, not the US. What you posted in reply is therefore irrelevant.
2. jolonnar already said they wouldn't use that material, so why press the issue?
i wasn't talking to the OP, i was talking to the person that said maybe the leather might have been potched or what ever. I know i'm not going to be able to get wrist pad in a exotic leather from the op. I'm not arguing about that. Next time read the Post more carefully and see who i replayed to to see and and understand the conversation more.

Hey everyone, just got back from a short RL business trip to find a bunch of new orders and PMs :)
I'll be catching up on these responses today, as well as getting a bunch of almost-finished custom orders ready for shipment on Monday.
Last week it was all standard black and white going out, so I didn't post pictures, but this batch will be a lot more interesting to show off.

Hehe, I am stitching yours tomorrow actually and plan to ship it Monday, don't worry it'll be in the pictures :thumb:
I believe I've caught up on PMs and stuff (Melvang has a really cool idea.)
So I ended up looking up at my clock after working on finishing up Binge's awesome piece and realized I missed the 6 PM shipping cutoff :(. gsimon's will get dropped off tomorrow but badloop's will get picked up Wednesday instead of Tuesday. DHL is so fast you should still get it before the week ends though.
Three went out this morning, a full size black and white from my site, plus these two:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/cZO9xgt.jpg)

Is there an option to have a wrist for the Leopold fc660c? :) thanks in advance!
Yeah I am going to make one for Dyslexic, I was just going to rejig an existing mould but I think I'll get one made properly if more people are interested. I really want an FC660C myself eventually, got to be prepared :D
And gsimon's all-black TKL isn't boring at all! It's a nice piece of leather with a bit of veininess to the grain, makes it a bit more interesting imo :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/TJn67Uu.jpg)
I failed to get the piece in the mail but I should be able to get the details we talked about finished up in the morning and shipped to you as well. Feel free to post any pics when you finish.

Oh please say you are still making these right now......... :o ?
Omg why did I not think about putting an aperture lab symbol on mine, man that would have been sweet
Still loving mine btw, I put a big scratch in the right one and it's starting to look worn in but it still looks good
Speaking of which. Is that something we should do right away?Still loving mine btw, I put a big scratch in the right one and it's starting to look worn in but it still looks goodThe nice thing about real leather is that if it ever gets too worn for your taste, it fixes up with a bit of leather conditioner or protectant stuff.

I do always take good care of my leather shoes.
There are no words to describe how awesome this thing is. If you're looking at these thinking, "man, those look too nice to be true, there has to be something wrong with them... like, maybe their are too light, or the leather is too hard, or they aren't comfortable, etc. etc."... banish the thought from your head. These are exactly what you think they are. Gorgeous, nice and heavy, soft and comfortable. Everything.
I'll be posting pics tomorrow.

Crosspost pictures of epic proportions!
Have just filled out a Custom Build Form on your website Noko, requesting you to build me a TKL wrist rest out of Crocodile Skin.
If you are having difficulty in getting any authentic Crocodile skin then please use Snake Skin from any large Python, which are beautiful to touch.
Please let me know if you can do it :thumb: .
Crosspost pictures of epic proportions!
Wow it actually arrived overnight! Awesome! I love the bird pics.
It's a little lower than your other ones I think, I had to allow for the bottom stiffener and didn't want to overstuff it, so let me know how that is. And, the baseball stitching will hopefully grip the bottom of the keyboard a bit and help with sliding.
Now I get to go back through my camera and post the in-progress build pics too. There's a really meta one of cutting a cutting board on a cutting board.
Nice cap there binge.
Can't wait to see the work on my panavise base.
I'll reply via email as well in case you don't see this post--but that rest I made for Tarzan was indeed faux crocodile, it's a print on the normal veg tan leather that I can mould into shape. I can only use this kind of leather in my process, so other hides aren't an option, but if you're still interested I think the fake turns out very awesome looking too.
Getting pretty excited for my rest (says the guy who lurks for years and doesn't post - ever)

And I don't want to forget about Sherwood, he got a Penumbra-inspired ErgoDox pair in the mail today too, it was really hard to get the colour balance right but that was kind of the point of the contrasting stitching I think :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/PZYoTzz.jpg)
I hope I put enough of a radius in the corners for you. If not feel free to take them down to what you need to.

awesome! would you be able to do an angled rest? ;D
Hmm, not sure what you mean by angled. Something like a right triangle for typing with a slightly-rotated keyboard?
he probably meant something like the filco wrist rest (the one on the right)
Haha, well, that makes a lot more sense.
If just the incline is the important thing, I include two different heights of optional stick-on feet so you could put them on one side only (actually, I'll test this out once I get home and see what it looks like).
If you wanted to make it like the Filco one, with that step-like bump, it could be done but it would require a fair amount of redesign--I'd certainly want to work on getting ErgoDox rests designed before moving on to something like that.
Picked up one of the 60% off massdrop can't wait!
Hi Noko! Just wondering if you're east coast or west coast! I'm from Vancouver.
I also want to express my interest in a step-bump wrist rest like the Filco one. Do you have any plans to design something like it?
Thanks
Sorry about the delay. Invoice is paid
Oh man I'm so hype atm.

Wow!!! Noko's work is outstanding, I need to get in line for my lightsaver.
I know this is a little late, but I ordered 2 pair of the regular black ergodox hand rest about a month ago and they are amazing. Feel and quality are all top notch, If you are on the fence order one you wont be sorry you did.
Thanks Noko for wrist rests.
Looking forward to seeing updates on the latest beautiful wrist rests again. But no rush. ;)

It looks so awesome now that all paint is done, I wish I could show you. I have a Galaxy S5 in the mail and I am really hoping it gets to me this week so I can get pictures before I ship it off to you. It's ready to stitch (well I want one more touchup on the whites first :) ) so I want to have it out by Friday. I'll see if I can borrow a camera today because it would be worth it!
A lot of others are ready for stitching.. nagalicious, Melvang (going to be a lot of stitching on that one!) so I better have a camera soon.
I've also got a couple of incoming surprises that really require photos.

No embroidery, for that I would have gone to my Mom. All I am going to say is that shipping for raw material from me to Noko, and finish product back is very close to what the product itself cost. Don't worry pics will be posted.

Looks brilliant, talk about a customized wrist rest that has it's own unique style :thumb: . Definitely keep it for the rest of your life and never damage it because it'll remind you always of what can be done with leather, which very few people can do on this planet.

So yeah, first look at Melvang's secret project! HYPECan you make a JD40 (40% keyboard) Wrist Rest? :)
I am going to start offering a mouse size (8 inches) very very soon, that might work pretty well.
I got my metal order shipped finally, so just have to put together the moulds for it.
Thanks for the kind words everyone :)
Apologies if you're waiting for a reply from me on something, I'm trying not to get too far behind with the backlog.

That is VERY pretty :O Great work! I really like the style of the art and the font used with the ORION rest.I love it as well. A tip for other people; even if you have a very specific idea on what you want, give Noko some creative freedom.
gosh i wish that waiting list wasnt so longIt's not going to get any shorter anytime soon. ;)
Dam thats nice!
I have a question, do you make custom size wrist rest? (9.8 inches)
Yay! Hurry up DHL!That is VERY pretty :O Great work! I really like the style of the art and the font used with the ORION rest.QuoteIt's not going to get any shorter anytime soon. ;)
I had my first contact with Noko around16th of Julythe 10th of June so that is basically 3.5 months from design till delivery. But almost 1.5 months was spent on the design part.
no worries :)Dam thats nice!
I have a question, do you make custom size wrist rest? (9.8 inches)
Sorry for missing your question earlier!
I am hoping to put out a nice comprehensive news post in the next few days summing things up, but I am now offering two additional sizes: Leopold FC660 (about 13 in) and mouse size (about 8 in). Unfortunately your custom size pretty much falls right in between 60% and the mouse size :( I am able to do custom heights with a few modifications, but custom lengths aren't possible unless I get a mould cut to that size. Which keyboard would it be for?
Shipping! Fresh pots!
Also fresh Hoots :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/ljwPVGn.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/663Awy2.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/ct2bUOF.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/WXsRn7v.jpg)
But I have other news on that front. I'm renting out a small workshop/studio space starting next month--my major bottleneck for a long time has simply been space for storage and drying pieces especially. I don't even have enough room to buy more clamps for all my new moulds at the moment. Much more detail, and pictures, of this to come :D

I will definitely order a Cursom Wrist Rest from Noko after seeing his 8 and 13 inch wrist rests! :thumb:
JaccoW I am so happy how well all the colours match! Thanks for the pictures of the final product :)Hmm, how long is the 60% in cm?
I've taken some (crappy phone for now) pics of the different sizes including the new ones, to give everyone an idea of proportions. If you go by the outside of the plastic outlines, that will be about the final size of the wrist rest. The prices will go along with the proportions ($75 for the FC, $45 for the mouse size). Dyslexic is the first to get an FC size, it'll be shipping this week so I'll be able to post a nicer picture along with a ruler and my Poker.Show Image(http://images.noko.ca/sizes.jpg)

Hmm, how long is the 60% in cm?30 cm.
Any updates Noko?Stitched and edged, it will go in the mail on Monday along with 3 other orders :)
Are those acrylic rests?
I'd imagine those are the forms she uses to make her rests.
zomg I was the FC660C guinea pig?! I'm so excited to see the finished product. Your timing is impeccable, as my grifiti wrist rest is starting to give up the ghost and will soon be due for a replacement. ;D
I am guessing that for a 75% the FC one would be the best option?
And thank you Noko for the great job. :)
I will be putting up a full review later but I will tell you this already; I am actually surprised at how well the colours hold up. I expected the white to turn grimy pretty quickly but even in the more exposed areas this is still as good as new. :)
Just gathering up all the pictures you sent me of the whole process so we can show people what it looks like. :)
Do you happen to still have a picture of the original drawing you based the design on?

Massdrop mail. This Logitech c910 doesn't do it justice.

There are just so many choices. Its hard to commit to anything. I'm so indecisive.
I wish there were more pictures online of everyone's different rests so I can compare.
I want to pick a royal blue leather with a turquoise stitching. I just think the colors might be to overpowering.
I'm conflicted. :/
First of two different batches shipping out today! One isn't a wrist rest though--it's Melvang's custom panavise base. Inside is a thick steel plate with leather cemented and stitched on either side. The stitching is orange--just not as bright as the name so it didn't show up that well here unfortunately. Enabler GB for scale :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/XBhB6nc.jpg)
Second is the very first FC660 size, in oxblood with turquoise stitching:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/TNBPH58.jpg)
Will be invoicing the next 4-5 orders in the next few days as I'm getting a lot out the door this week.

If you go back a couple pages, there's a picture with a Royal Blue 60% (under Dabestmaynes) to give you a bit of an idea of how it looks. The royal blue is more muted than the navy blue (the Aperture blue), I'd compare it to jeans that have been worn a month vs. brand new jeans to give you an idea of the difference in colour. The turquoise thread does stand out, but in my opinion it's my favourite thread as everything I use it with ends up amazing, from black to (just today) oxblood.
You're totally right though, I need to make some kind of index to show off different combinations in their final form--it's hard to get a good idea of the final product from a small dye swatch.
The wait time on the dyeing process is so long. Feels like im dyeing :))
I got my wrist rest in the mail today. Not only is it the best quality wrist rest I've had by a loooooooooooong shot, the size is perfect, and I can see the capacitive equation on my FC660C for the first time while using a wrist rest with the keyboard. I'm thrilled with the end result. I'll post pics with the FC660C this weekend.
Just a random question/thought that I had for you Noko. I know you just announced that you're going to have a studio to work out of now. Will that include some form of drying oven? I don't know if there is a special process you have now nor if there's such a thing as a machine that helps regular humidity to dry things out. But I just wanted to float the idea out there to see what you thought. :D
Had to take a quick teaser pic when I went home for lunch and found a package waiting for me.
Could you do a 60% Wrist rest with the Rhino i have as a profile picture? or is that to hard to do?

And when you receive it, it's just as heavy as your keyboard because she actually uses metal inside the item which is a first amongst palm rests anywhere. Her standards are up there with Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles because she uses first rate materials in the construction of your product.
When you buy one of her palm rests it exemplifies style and quality, something that is built to outlive you and trust me it will :thumb: .

Thanks and Happy New Year all! :thumb:This is the most beautiful wrist wrest you have done to date. SOOOOOO NICE. Pointy fox is super lucky. :thumb:
I'm back to work again, a bit later than expected since I've been restoring things after my SSD failed.
If you're reading this now, BACK YER STUFF UP IF YOU HAVEN'T IN A WHILE OKAY. YOU KNOW IT'S A GOOD IDEA. IT'S THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW YEAR, WHAT BETTER TIME?
Luckily enough I decided a couple months ago to no longer keep all my leatherworking stuff on my main drive and keep a couple redundant copies. And I've also concluded I don't think SSDs are worth the drawbacks, catastrophic failure with only a random BSOD earlier in the day to warn me and the expense versus capacity isn't worth the speed.
If you've put in an order form since Christmas I'll be getting back to you either today or tomorrow.
As predicted, too, my Secret Santa recipient took way better pictures than I did of the finished product. Borrowed this pic from Pointy Fox over in that thread :) If you've wondered what purple dye looks like, you can see it's really on the darkish bluish side of purples.Show Image(http://imgur.com/2bW7659.jpg)
Posts to-do: I'd like to make some picture updates for folks with in-progress work, I've got some funky leatherworking tech to show off courtesy of mkawa and Edsyn's awesomeness (yup, leatherworking meets soldering hype is upcoming), and said tech is hopefully to be applied to this project I have been putting off for a while :P

This week's custom orders! My new switch tester courtesy of katushkin :thumb:Your wrist rests never ceases to amaze me! I am so hyped for how my JD40 sized wrist rest will look like when its done!
I have mentioned before that the grey dye I used to use was a real pain, so I was happy to find this newly-released dark grey waterstain to use as a substitute. Not only does it have a much more natural look, but it gives the leather a really interesting smooth feel. In the back is antique-treated oxblood.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/LywCML2.jpg)

When my wallet is ready I would love to get another one for work wide enough for a TKL and mouse :D
Quick update! School stuff including traveling has put me behind, but I am still around, just kinda quiet and a bit slower to reply to stuff. No worries :D
Last of 60% Massdrop shipped, a bunch of custom orders with carvings on the go, which I'm planning to post a bunch of in progress pictures of sometime this week. And more picture backlog.

Sorry for asking so many questions so fast.
Hehe np :)
1) is just plain old practice, plus using quality tools (which in leatherworking does make a huge difference). But I'm by no means an expert at carving, for example this guy's bevelling is so insane https://www.flickr.com/photos/threemuttscustoms/sets/72157628752308441/
I posted this in one of Binge's threads too, here's the first ever thing I made out of leather from a how-to video, as you can see it looks horrible :DShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/kppleFx.jpg)
2) Yes, though as you can see from the fish for example, I can redo something I've done before if you want it too.
3) Most of the time I end up adapting an existing image for carving in Photoshop, drawing outlines on things and removing some details so it prints okay. Then I "trace" that onto the damp leather to make an imprint, which I use as a guide for the carving and then add details back in freehand.
So, if you have an image in mind, I can usually tell you if it's doable or not. I have made up completely original designs before too, most recent was my coaster for Binge, but that takes more time. Right now I'm doing a couple vectorizing photos which is sort of in the middle.
4) Text has to be reasonably big to look good carved. That's the number one reason I find someone sends me an image they'd like and I can't make it work. The ideal is like something that would work in a colouring book. On the other hand though, I always like to take on something challenging, no harm in trying out a test to make sure it can be done :)
5) Lots :) For example, for Tyvar1's rhino, I mixed up a custom orange to match, just cause it wouldn't be Otto otherwise.
I have something like 30 acrylics so I can usually get something close for anything.
Pretty much I quote the price for this in 3 tiers: no colours/just highlighting, one colour, and then as many as you need (since once you're above one the labour is pretty much the same).
The only thing to keep in mind is that more colours = exponentially more time for completion. I have tried to see if it can be reduced, but it always causes problems so I now stick with what works.
For example, for Tyvar's Otto, the steps so far have been: carving and full 24h dry, first orange coat, outline in black dye, latex mask, main black dye, first coat of orange touchups plus first coat of other colours. Next will be more layers of other colours until they are all complete, each with a day in between for proper drying. After than comes clear finish on carvings, black finish on black, then highlight coat (needs 48h drying time), then clear finish. So that is a lot of days spent drying!
This is awesome! So nice to know how you make my wrist rest! Thank you so much for the detailed post! And I can feel how good Otto is going to be! :DCan I ask how do you get those imprints on the leather to look so nice? Are they custom per order? How do I get my own logo?
Now I feel so special. :p I took a bunch of shots of it, but mine are all potatoes compared to yours. I 'll post some of them soon anyway (on my way back to college now).Just wanted to let you know noko that I'm not trying to insult you by not taking any pictures of my new wrist wrest. It's at my home on Long Island, and I havn't gotten a chance to see it yet.. I'll try and get some good pics when I go home for spring break.
No worries man, I think it's more my fault that I haven't posted my pics of it yet :) Here we go:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/FseQQ4y.jpg)
I probably won't make one like this again, so it'll forever be known as Vibex Beige. It took quite a process and I also have no idea how it will hold up over time (which I guess Vibex is going to find out! Looking forward to it.) I'm going to document the process in my Making Stuff thread.
Also had this one sitting around to post, normally I don't bother showing off standard black wrist rests that go out, but black with grey stitching is unexpectedly awesome:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/EyGKYQ4.jpg)
I think I have to make another one of these for myself, just to permanently go with this Galaxy Class.

So I just did a mass update to the waiting list, I did a whole bunch of carving last week and all of these are in various stages of dye/paint/highlighting. There's one more carving I am working on that's taking a bit more practice, it's on a full size and pretty big and detailed. Some potatoes are more potatoes than other potatoes.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/p2UcQ0N.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/PZPhWSR.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/2tnkR9r.jpg)

These all look absolutely incredible!!! I would love to order one but it seems the link to your custom order form is down at the moment.
Can we get a close up of that marines logo when it is done? I was navy myself, but still want to see the artwork.

Yes, unfortunately my old embedded form started having a couple issues. I'm in the process of replacing it with a locally-hosted form, and I'll post an update here as soon as it's ready. Can we get a close up of that marines logo when it is done? I was navy myself, but still want to see the artwork.
Yup, just about to ship that one so I'll get some good pictures for sure. I wanted to make sure I did my due diligence with it (which was actually kinda cool.. sent my registration along with a $15 cheque to The Pentagon to become an official licensed hobbyist of the USMC.. ) and it's being shipped off to a legit FPO :)

So was going to finish fixing up the form and send out invoices over the weekend but I forgot some old friends were visiting town and lots of burgers and beers and trips to places like the aquarium were had:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/rDtGQLP.jpg)
But here's a couple pictures of what shipped last week:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/lYTN5RM.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/8jLE2Gq.jpg)
The fish one is meant to fit a LightSaver so it's a TKL with a bit over a half inch extra on the border.
I've got all those other carvings in various stages of assembly, so I can't wait to show those off too.
And for those who read this far, a little hype. I've got a sort of orphaned ErgoDox pair that I finally finished off--I never wanted to sell it because one of the pieces has a little more scarring than I would be comfortable with, though it's more cool looking than anything, so it sat around partially done for a long time. Going to have a giveaway for it :D

Good news everyone!
The new custom order form is now up! I also fixed up the gallery while I was at it. Newfangled responsive web design should now be fully implemented, and load times should be considerably improved (some images need work still though). And there's probably bugs.
Speaking of images, potatocam still sucks, here is what I got that was not too bad :( Currently saving up for this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/fuji/x-t1.htmShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/fmQghTW.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/c5ZRHmr.jpg)

Hey guys, that is actually a custom mix of turquoise and aqua green. In person it's a bit more greenish than the photo looks.
This is a good shot of plain turquoise:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/u1JY79V.jpg)
Thanks for the updates!
Sorry for not posting in a while, I am trying to get through my backlog of replies and stuff, but more emails keep coming :)
Thanks so much everyone.
I've shipped a bunch of orders but not a lot of custom carvings in those, mostly just black and saddle tan stuff. A lot of custom art is still in progress at various stages--so pictures will be coming in a couple days.
Parts are also being cut for a couple new things. 1) A one-off for now, custom Atreus wrist rest. 2) Under-the-Ergodox production version of the prototype I made for Binge a while back (was going to do tenting built-in but it's too ambitious for the moment, I decided). Need to check up with the sheet metal guys.
A couple loose end projects I really want to finish before these, though.
what's the current estimated waiting time?

Cute pooch :D Awesome work by Noko, as always.
Done all school stuff! That Vim logo is nice!
- I still have a couple PMs and emails left to get to, and I hope to have the order list updated by end of today.
- I had to resubmit new plate designs to the metal shop but I have sent in for final quote today (I hack stuff together in Illustrator cause I don't know anything about AutoCAD, so sometimes stuff ends up odd)
- Some people might have missed responses to contact forms due to spam filter issues (thanks Anthony.) I've changed form behaviour so I hope this fixes things, but always feel free to bug me if you don't receive a response within a few days now that I'm back.
Custom art from the other week:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/PrWgPKk.jpg)
That Vim logo is nice!Seconding that, it looks gorgeous.
Everytime I visit his thread I am amazed at the craftsmanship, beautiful work as always! One day I shall own some of noko's handywork. :thumb:
Thanks for the updates! I'm looking forward to getting my second rest from you and working on the custom design together!I'm in the same boat ;D
- Starting up a new round of invoicing for those who have been waiting on custom art/design. Working on sketching and mockups to send out to a number of people waiting for invoices.
- Terrible humidity lately! I got a dehumidifier on sale, it already seems to be helping a bit. Thanks again to (someone I forget in this thread) for recommending the idea a long time ago.
- Good news about new designs. Details have been settled for the metal work and it is now in production, moulds and wood parts also in production for all new sizes. This includes a complete redesign of the ErgoDox fullhand to sit properly on top of the wrist rest case with clearance for bolts/screws as well as reduced height. The latter won't quite be available yet, though, as I want to get feedback and make sure the fit is right.
- A conclusion to 2015: A Beige Odyssey as 002's custom order ships! I thank him for his patience during this (still experimental and unreasonably long) production process.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/nL6A2qf.jpg)
- And.. a conclusion forthcoming to CPTBadAss' project, which I've made myself a note and booked time to finish within June.. ;)

Hey, Noko,
Just curious, how is the Ergodox wrist pad design coming up?
I think the last time we mentioned it was the tenting did not go as well as planned, but what about just the wrist pad that can suppose the keyboard?
Curious to know what my options are once massdrop finally starts shipping the new gen of Ergodox.
Thanks.
Friends have been trying to throw money at me lately to make more wallets, and belts, and various other things like a bike-mounted growler carrier (lol) that I'm trying to eventually get to.
I finished Prototype v2 and v3 this week actually. v2 I screwed up measurements by half an inch, my shameful error permanently frozen in contact cement, but I'll bring it to the Toronto meetup to show off so people can see it and will take some pictures then. v3 will be shipping out to the lucky first owner next week :) I do want to tweak the plate design a bit to ensure that measurement error will no longer be possible, and then I think I can fully call it a production design.
There's a lot stuff that should have pictures taken that I haven't had time to do so yet. Fullhand Ergo Prototype v1 is done and will be sent to a forum member. First Atreus under-the-keyboard will be shown off at the Toronto meetup too.
I am talking with MD about their Infinity plans and stuff, I'll let you know how it all goes.

When I got the invoice I was shocked to see how generous the price was. I was even more shocked when I realised that number was in CAD.
Such amazing quality and I know that the guys who were at the Toronto meet with me saw just how amazing this thing is.
I told her to recreate something like an ink painting on old canvas and she captured it so well.
The little brand on the back is also really cute. It's so tiny.

Sweet it looks great with your notebook :) I tried tying the knots 3 times and each one it wanted to fold backwards. So that's the way it wanted to be.
The leather is perfect on its own so I didn't treat it with anything except a little edge polishing. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it wears.
Yeah--I have to take pics of the GH version, pretty much that's it, just so busy :)
I'll be publicizing around more later like in the pens thread, but I have around 10 of these (not as fancy as CPT's though, that's an original) that will be emblazoned with a tasteful Geekhack emblem if you so wish.
They're up for sale for the cost of leather price plus $15 donation to Geekhack per book ($45 per book plus shipping in total).

I think it's right thread to ask my question. Using Noko's wrist rest for 3 months now, feels and looks as amazing as on first day, but i wonder if here anyone who intence uses them for year+? How does leather aged? How it looks now? Would really like to see some photos of such rests.
I'm tempted to order something but if I do I'm gonna go all out so I need some time to think. Maybe I could stop by and check it out? I'll bring bubble teaBedazzle it!

My dad sent me a picture of my wrest. I love it!
Oops...My dad sent me a picture of my wrest. I love it!
Glad I'm not the only one who types "wrest"
So it's been insanely hot here, enough apparently to fry the SD card in my phone, so I don't have all the pictures I wanted to post today. That's not the main news though, I should probably start off with that :)
I totally redesigned the site, completely modernized in terms of appearance and navigation. The ordering process is also a lot more streamlined, which will allow me to handle custom orders in a much more organized fashion.
If you want a wrist rest with no art, you can now choose your size and colours and order right away! You'll receive a status update via email when I begin the order and when it ships, and you can also create an account to monitor order status. Lead time for these orders will be around 2-3 weeks from now on.
Custom orders with art will now be on their own queue, and I'll start bringing them into the new order system from this point on. Those on the current list will of course be my first priority, already getting through a round of new invoices today (that means you heedpantsnow :D ). I'll be using a similar system to let you access detained info on your order progress/wait list status from your account, if you'd like.
I've got a couple pieces in stock on sale too, ones with leather scarring or a wonky stitch somewhere, just too much of a perfectionist to feel right charging fully for them :)

And as I've sort of mentioned, the final design of the under-the-Ergodox wrist rests is complete, a loong time after I made that first prototype for Binge. They're very nice and heavy. The base price for these is going to be $150 for the extra leather area and stitching. Bendon is the proud first owner :D
I did make the final version of the new Fullhand size and sent it off to Oatburner who gave me some amazing feedback and pictures. I'm really happy that he's vetted the new design as the old one wasn't sized properly (and it was very old.. it was made from the file of my original prototype). I lost my pictures of them, but here is one of the ones he took, to give you a bit of an idea of how cute they are. I was worried they might be too small, but given they're palm rests, he explained he likes the freedom of thumb movement especially as your hands are already raised up by the integrated wrist rest, you only want a minimal extra padded area.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/qnLe4Mq.jpg)

Hey guys,
So.. some cool news, other not so much.
Coolness is that wrist rest art is going awesomely. These two are just the beginning, I can't wait to show off the even more complex pieces that are currently underway :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/YeLBdBz.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/JG3ocXw.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/OpZGT9g.jpg)
Completely out of nowhere I am now dealing with a residential tenancy thing which involves me lawyering up and potentially moving. Being cautious financially, this means I'm going to have to leave my studio. I hope to relocate to a place where I can set up a proper home workshop, but for the indefinite future I will not be taking new orders.
Rest assured that if you have paid, you will be receiving your order as planned and probably ahead of schedule. If you're on the list but have not yet been invoiced, I'm going to try to get through as many as I can before I have to pack up (which itself is a current known unknown sort of timeframe). I will work my hardest to prevent this from happening, but if I do invoice you and am unable to make your wrist rest in time, you'll be refunded 100% as soon as I know my deadline.
Be happy though--for we have created SUPAR ART this summer, and it has been glorious.

I have received my rests and omg they are beautiful. My expectations and mind were completely blown (not saying that i didn't expect much, i had very high expectations).
The final products are 10 times better than the rough design he gave me before he started, and i was happy with those! He actually improved the design by changing some of the placements and added stuff. Whether he didn't include it in the sketch or decided it would look better as he worked i don't know, but i am glad he added the extra detail.
I left the color and everything to him, other than my vague requests, and i couldn't be any happier. The colors he chose shows his great experience and the art is nothing short of astounding. I would post pictures but i would have to go through the trouble of borrowing a phone (my camera is broken) so i'll just wait till noko uploads his photos.
Thanks for everything noko i couldn't be happier with the experience of working with you and wish you the best!

Massdrop screwed up and double-shipped some of the orders for TKL wrist rests leaving them with not enough for all orders. I had already wrapped things up by the end of August, when Massdrop asked to buy additional wrist rests as replacements. Luckily only a few people were affected, but I still want to apologize that you weren't able to get the wrist rests you ordered. Frustrating for something like this to happen when it's totally outside of your control.
I'll try to keep this updated about how things are looking regarding starting up again.
Hi everyone!
Sorry for being unresponsive lately. Moving preparations, plus the beginning of the semester, and I've been pulled in for a bunch of new research projects which fortunately enough pay nicely. So, things are going well for me.
Thank you to everyone who has kept in touch via email or PM to ask how things are going, I'm really behind on working through those as there are too many of you kind GHers out there :)
I know at least some of those, however, concerned the sale in August.
A couple people have posted they've received orders in the last batch; here are my photos:

I'll try to keep this updated about how things are looking regarding starting up again.
In the meantime I know inanis is starting up a store soon doing some beautiful woodwork including wrist rests and cases, I'd definitely keep an eye on her work if you're shopping in the near future! :thumb:

any idea on when noko will be back up and running?

Her biggest trouble is again setting up a studio, that won't be affected with greedy land-lords which lead to her problems in the first place.
When she finally sets up, she'll be here on GH letting us know, then it'll be full on leather wrist rest heaven for every enthusiast on this planet :thumb: .
Will be ordering from you when your ready :D
