Both external surfaces are smooth to the touch so I guess it's internal. I'm not a material science guy so that's all I know.

KBDf offered me $5, $10 for this defect instead of replacement... no thanks.

anyone else received 3 sets of screws and spacers(?) in sealed plastic bags are for? did the factory just out of convenience throw it in there and didn't want to separate from the rest of the tools?

The spacers/standoffs are in case of hotswap pcb, to make these people hotswap without opening the case (otherwise the pcb would fall)
Yes people with solder pcb got these tools as well, to avoid mistakes or to avoid that anyone with a HS melody65 could end up without these parts somehow :)

You are pretty much lucky, no R2 planned sorry, but there will be 100 extras in stock, ready to ship, in about 8 hours.
