Hello World!
« on: Sat, 16 May 2015, 23:31:03 »
I've used geekhack for advice, reviews, and recommendations for years now and thought now was the time to join.  Spending the last three days at work reading the geekhack forums has convinced me I'm not insane.  That or I just have plenty of company in the asylum.  ;D

My first mechanical was a Majestouch NKRO with Cherry MX browns.  This beloved board meet its end when my cats chased each other across it - not once, but three times.  :'(

My friends and family decided that I had a problem when I bought my second board less than a month after receiving my NKRO.  I can kinda see their point (if I squint) that spending over $500 on keyboards is crazy.  But I really would have been crazy to pass up a Limited Edition Filco Majestouch with Cherry MX blues.  Typing this introduction on it now in fact. Drafted into action but soon to enjoy retirement.

Razer Blackwidow (original model) - unceremoniously tossed in the dumpster.

Leopold Model fc3456-a with Cherry MX reds - enjoying retirement.
Mionix Zibal 60 with Cherry MX blacks/green leds - enjoying retirement.

ETA Tuesday: Vortex PKX7000 Pure Pro with Cherry MX reds/green leds.
Resisting the urge to splurge on a Filco Minila with Cherry MX browns.

I've got some o-rings coming with the Vortex that will go on the Vortex and my Razer Orbweaver with mx style blues.  Heard that the o-rings will dampen the click of the blues but I'm thinking it might not be enough so I've been researching soldering equipment.  An Orbweaver with Cherry MX reds/green leds = gaming nirvana.  Maybe an Orbweaver with Cherry MX browns?  Both?  hmmmm

Well I guess that's about all from this pistachio for now.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Sounds like you'll fit in well around here :p

Plenty of room in the asylum ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
