Much sad, Very disappoint, but on the bright side at least there is still hope for a proper Viper to make its return. This will allow for even more people to save up when they do come around. Really hoping they hear the community about that spacebar though. I hope it remains true to the original Duck Viper layout.

As someone who's owned a Lightsaver for a long time (until recently), I actually really like this new design. A wall of keycaps with no separation can get a bit old--I like the aluminum dividers on the renders.

Being an Octagon owner, I too agree. While 75% is nice, sometimes TKL is a nice refresher with that extra space. I certainly love using my full sized boards to switch things up sometimes.

So I can definitely agree that separation can be pretty welcome sometimes. I can see the slab of keys getting a bit tiresome after a while.

it's certainly an interesting layout, but i'm not sure if it would be useful for me. i use function keys much more than numpad, and remapping functions to the numpad cluster would be kind of strange.

Yeah I don't care about the layout

I just think it kind of goes against the spirit of the community to patent something as simple as a layout

Unless of course he plans to let other people use the design and just doesn't want a big company taking the form factor

When I connect the board with the flip button down (caps lock) and go to device manager the viper shows up as a "ATm32U4DFU" under Universal Serial Bus devices

ive tried this but the board i have shows up as a atm32u4dfu rather than atmega32u4 in my device manager

when I go to cmd prompt and use dfu programmer to erase it can't find the board (either the atmega32u4 or the atm32u4dfu that shows up in device manager)

Hey swimmingbird, hopefully I can help you out.
Just ignore the showing up as "ATm32U4DFU" and "Check Atmel USB Driver" errors you are getting now.

Have you tried using FLIP? Download here: http://www.atmel.com/tools/FLIP.aspx
I use it to flash my Viper, as well as my HHKB running TMK.

Just plug in the Viper while holding down Caps Lock.
And follow the instructions at the very bottom of the page here: http://duck0113.tistory.com/84
Duck gives you instructions on how to flash using FLIP software. (translate using chrome)
Make sure you select ATmega32U4 at the beginning or else it won't flash properly.
