Need more than 500 characters in signature. Formatting and links take up too many characters! Why the 500 limit? I mean, to be obnoxious, someone could make a signature with way less than 500 characters that takes up LOTS of space:

Code: [Select]
J[br]D[br]C[br]A[br]R[br]P[br]E[br]...[br]!
KMAC :: LZ-GH :: WASD CODE :: WASD v2 :: GH60 :: Alps64 :: JD45 :: IBM Model M :: IBM 4704 "Pingmaster"

So all we do is just ask for 1000 characters? Can I get 1000 characters as well then?

the new global limit is 1000 characters. unless you're just asking me to type 1000 characters, because i will NOT do that.

This will probably get ignored, but I just thought I'd suggest something I just thought of. I was thinking that if you clicked on the sender/recipient in the inbox to show conversation history with that person instead of their profile it would be extremely useful and would make the new PM system much more viable/easy to use. As it stands you have to run a search every time (same as the old one I know) but you also have to input a character, so I have to hope that somewhere in their PM they typed an a. Lol. In addition the search function is on a separate page etc and it just involves a lot more clicking and navigating than it used to.

Anyways, if that's too much to ask that's fine, but hopefully we could at least get rid of requiring a search term when the user is specified just for peace of mind.

Because you hate me now etc? That's actually pretty cool of you saying that though, shows you can put personal feelings aside when it comes to running the site. Props. -1 to me being frustrated with you. I'd prefer not to derail the topic though so I'll leave it at that.

Is it that you want to be able to subscribe to a thread and get email while also being subscribed to other threads and not getting email?  I have no issue being subscribed to threads and getting no email.

This.

Based off my suggestion thread we all think it would be easier for international buyers to know where the seller/ buyer is from when first reading a thread.

* I saw a "news" item that the Search box is context sensitive. Is this not old news?

* I think that it would be better if there was a label next to (or inside) the Search box that told what the context is. That way, we would have "knowledge in the world".
My favourite forum softwares have search boxes (or popdown windows with search boxes) next to the things they search. One box is at the top and just says "Search". One is at the forum heading "Search in forum" and one is at the thread heading "Search in thread". There is no ambiguity.

* Whenever there is a new news item, please include a link to a thread where it is described in more detail and we can ask questions about it and discuss it.

every signature is technically limited to 4 lines max. i'm not really sure how smf counts lines, but that's what that parameter is set to. it was just a convenient small number to use.

Can we disable the email button by default, not that it bothers me, but I know that some members that have left have also had their emails out in the public now. Just a thought, plus then the newbies won't have to turn it off if it isn't already,

Sigh, maybe u should read back to my original request. I want there to be an option of notifications of subscribed topics in there but not via email. U know, like every other forum on the internet with usercp, u subscribe to topics, Can just check ur usercp for updates to your subscribed topics when u login to see new replies. Alot easier to keep track of things.

rayuki, what's wrong with clicking notifications to get exactly that? It's just called "Notifications" instead of "Subscriptions" in this forum software.

It shows your subscribed threads right there. Not really sure what MORE you want.

Edit: And in case you are going to start arguing with me about it not working like you want.

Click the Notifications link.
If you want to subscribe to all threads you post in then choose the option that says "Turn notification on when you post reply to a topic"
Then uncheck "When sending notification.." and choose "Nothing at all" in the "For topics and boards I've.." to not receive any email notifications.

If you only want specific threads to show up in your notifications, then choose "Notify" at the top of the thread.

And you can also subscribe to a whole forum if you want, and that forum (they call it a "board" in SMF) will show up under your subscribed threads.

Pretty neat!

To be very specific, the setting I referred to is the one that should prevent you from receiving the emails but you still end up with the subscription list shown directly below those settings.  If there is something about that list that could be tweaked to better suit this function then feel free to concisely describe it and we'll see what can be done.

Would it be possible to turn off nested quotes when clicking the "Quote" button on a post? I know there is such an option, and I don't like having to go delete all the nested text myself.
