[IC] SPV1 - 75% + Left Numpad (GB DATE AND PRICING SET!!!)
« on: Wed, 05 October 2022, 20:22:32 »

    SPV1 by Bisoromi x [H]

    Hi all!

After many years I'm excited to finally announce the SPV1, a Southpaw 75%! This was a joint effort between myself and H3NT4I to create a practical and productive layout.

At the time of designing this back in 2018 there weren't any layouts like this so we decided to make our own with the help of Gondolindrim for designing the PCB.

Big thank you to CannonKeys and all of their staff for graciously helping out with fulfilment of this board!!

    Specs
    8° angle
    Top mount
    1.5mm plate
    2x 8mm brass reversible weights
    Aluminum case
Numpad, mirrored numpad, or macropad options
    USB-C
Fixed ANSI 7u WKL layout (will provide plate file)
    10mm top/bottom bezels, 5mm side bezels
    Caps/num/scroll LED indicators
    18.8mm front face height
    Solder-only PCB (For first run)

    Renders (by Pontus)

    Proto Images

    Layouts

    Plate

    Pricing
    $420

    Timeline
    Launching February 14th, 2023

    Vendors

Thanks for looking!! Huge shoutouts to Upas, Alchemist, Chippy, Gondolindrim, and everyone else who helped out with this project! :thumb:

I dunno what percent I'd consider it either, but looks far closer to a southpaw 1800 than a 75 :D

Just as a lefty that's what I'd consider it. Great looking board mate!

Isn't this more of a southpaw 98%? I feel like southpaw 75% would be a 75% with the nav column and arrows on the left.

If you guys can settle on what % it is then I’ll change the title, but for now Southpaw 75% makes the most sense!

I never understood why the big 0 key on the numpad was on the left, especially if it's on the left side of the keyboard. Normally you would use your right thumb (at least that's how I use a numpad), but you're going to use it with your left hand, and how would you press the 0 with your left thumb?

Looks clean though, GLWIC :) Also I don't think this is a 75% :p

The R4 gap between the num pad and Esc is a cool design choice. If the price is low enough i'll consider left handing it.

This is a Compact Full Size Keyboard.

Focus on the key count.

There are 102 keys! That is wayyy too many keys to categorize this as a 75% keyboard. The intention of the percentage is to represent the number of keys relative to the number of keys typically found on a full size keyboard. A typical 75% keyboard will have (78-84) keys, give or take.

The reason why I would call this a Compact Full Size Keyboard is because it has the same number of keys as the Austin keyboard.

85% southpaw is my best guess

75%+10%(numpad)

85% ≠ TKL

I don't mind either way. Just a quick question. Would you consider this:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=96648.0

to be a full size southpaw? Or is that a TKL southpaw. If you would call that a TKL southpaw, then you can go ahead and call yours a 75% southpaw.

If you're going solder only PCB, what's your excuse for not having ISO support? Fine if you don't want to support it on the plate and let community members sort that out, but it literally costs you zero compatibility to just add the holes for a solder PCB...

It wasn't out of ill intent to exclude ISO compat from the PCB. The PCB was commissioned a while ago (2019) and was only supposed to be a limited run with a small friend group who only uses ANSI. The partnership with CannonKeys was a recent decision. But now that the logistical gears are turning on CK's side, it's a bit too late to offer ISO compatibility as the protos and BOM have already been finalized!

But ISO support, amongst other things, are definitely plans that I would like to offer for future runs if there's enough interest!

Whatever you did to the seam, it's not pronounced enough. It looks like a normal seam that stands out just a little bit more. Which is not a good thing in my opinion.
