Thanks for your answer Vesper. Yeah I figured out that the tripod is a must-have especially when you need to make long exposure. Do you know what would be a price for a decent tripod? Is the macro lens mandatory? I have a 18-55mm lens. it is pretty much the stock one with my Canon 450D.
A macro lens can make a HUGE difference~ However, I think your first priority is a tripod and figuring out your camera settings. After you've got some experience and know what you're doing, then you can decide if you want to make or need the macro lens :)
A lens extender is also a nice, cheaper substitute (mine was like $150 IIRC)

Extension tube are a great alternative too! They can most definitely go for less than $100 too!

Nice, hwood!

Decided to play around with a few settings tonight and also learnt that it sucks taking pictures of keyboards at night without decent lighting stuff.

Thanks for the kind words you guys :) I should really invest in some photog gear, really hate how limiting the angles can be when you don't have a tripod.

Damn are you joking? Your pictures are 100% better than all the pictures I tried to do no matter the light I had. I must how to make proper photo. Are there some noob tutorials or must-know list on geekhack?

I found this article which I was really useful to help understand the meaning of the different settings and once I knew what each of the settings did I just spent a few hours playing around with it.

The robocap is one of my favorite designs by Krytone, you will definitely like his work and congrats on winning that hexashot it really looks great.

Right?! Seriously some awesome photos by Moralless!!! You're getting better every time you post~ <3

Ngt, I'd say the most important factors are under any lighting is~ a tripod, setting an appropriate ISO, manual focusing, and a macro lens~

Thanks Vesper  :-*

Ummm, if my memory serves me correct, you can get a decent tripod for about $60ish. You really have to do your research on these because the pricing is all over the place~ Crappy tripods going for too much everywhere~ They are constructed out of metal, so the prices can get pretty ridiculous. I'm using a crappy one that came with my camera, but if I were to spend money on one, I would buy a decent one.

A macro lens can make a HUGE difference~ However, I think your first priority is a tripod and figuring out your camera settings. After you've got some experience and know what you're doing, then you can decide if you want to make or need the macro lens :)

I think I really need to get a good camera now

Please doooo~~~ I'd love to see those vintage stuff in all its glory~

A good tripod is REALLY nice. I borrowed my friends ****ty one, it did ok but I just got this carbon fiber one in the mail today. I know the CF more than likely isn't great, but it's not a $700 gitzo with only the legs. There's also an aluminum version.

In my experience with tripods it's easy to have any two of:
good quality,
cheap, or
light
...but to have all three is exceedingly rare.
I'm back.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
