I should really invest in some photog gear, really hate how limiting the angles can be when you don't have a tripod.

I found this article which I was really useful to help understand the meaning of the different settings and once I knew what each of the settings did I just spent a few hours playing around with it.

Ummm, if my memory serves me correct, you can get a decent tripod for about $60ish. You really have to do your research on these because the pricing is all over the place~ Crappy tripods going for too much everywhere~ They are constructed out of metal, so the prices can get pretty ridiculous. I'm using a crappy one that came with my camera, but if I were to spend money on one, I would buy a decent one.

A good tripod is REALLY nice. I borrowed my friends ****ty one, it did ok but I just got this carbon fiber one in the mail today. I know the CF more than likely isn't great, but it's not a $700 gitzo with only the legs. There's also an aluminum version.

In my experience with tripods it's easy to have any two of:
good quality,
cheap, or
light
...but to have all three is exceedingly rare.
