Filco High Profile Keycaps
« on: Sun, 01 January 2017, 15:26:47 »
Just a heads up to anyone who may be interested in getting a set of the Filco SA caps.  Mechanicalkeyboards.com shows they plan to have some in stock between Jan 15 and Jan 31

Wow! Will be picking those up for my let's split. Are they sculpted? Have you tried them?

Do you think they could work property on a let's split?

I assume they will be the same as mentioned here:

They are sculpted but in the traditional 1-1-2-3-4-4 profile, they're 2-2-3-3-3-3. Seems a bit strange to me, but I have not tried them.

They will not really work for the let's split board because of no 1u modifiers

Be aware that Costar stabilizer inserts are glued into the stabilizer posts of these keycaps. Removing them for use with other types of stabilizers (e.g., Cherry) could be rather challenging.

I'm going to add to this. My suggestion is to heat them up with a heat gun or hair drier before trying to remove them. This will soften the glue and make it easier to pull out without breaking the stabilizer insert.

It could also warp the ABS plastic. Be very careful when applying heat to them; if unsure of what I mean, go ahead and drop an ABS spacebar into some really hot water...

Since they are 2-2-3-3-3-3 do you think I could use them with my let's split? Just void the top row and do 2-3-3-3? I don't need the alphas to be alphas.

Like I said, you're not going to have any 1u modifiers.

I own two sets of the UK ISO variant of these caps and had to remove the stabilizer posts for one of my boards. You're correct in that they're glued in however it's fairly easy to remove them as the glue they have used is like a soft silicone gel. All I did to remove them is place a flathead screwdriver into the opening on the stabilizer and carefully pulled them off (they didn't require much force at all!).

I have these and they are very easy to take out.
I'll get my photos ready and post them here from the whole process. They have some simple soft gel-like glue there, you can easily pull them out with screwdriver or something flat.

Pity they not coming up in UK, I would buy another set of theses.

I just installed a set on a WASD v2 tkl with blues. I like 'em. Great typing feel and sound.

[EDIT]

One thing to note for folks considering this set is that it's not black & white. The colors are a deep brown and ivory.

Anyone knows where I can get those Filco SA keycaps in 2021? Im looking for dark brown cloroway in ansi layout? I found one in Asia but with shipping to Europe will be very expensive.
