Countries (shown in red) that don't use the metric system:

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Rowdy you missed the UK they still use their old empirical system.  Especially the older ones because the European system is too wog-like for their comfort.

I think they are at least transitioning to metric though.

Uh, where did you hear that?

I'm pretty sure you just described 99.9% of Westerners.

Sounds like you are generalising Westeners there ...

Nah, the UK officially uses the metric system except for miles and mph, basically. Imperial is used more colloquially though.

My brother once saw a bunch of Russian immigrants who looked pretty well off (had smartphones, designer jeans etc) using food stamps.
I'm pretty sure the Russians are the best at exploiting the welfare system in 'Murica.

I was actually making a dig at the GOP for this "weak America" bull**** - they've been very sheepishly pointing out how nobody takes America seriously anymore this past week to score political cheap spots.

Anyways on a more serious note,  I've heard a few stories about relatively rich people who have or make most of their money overseas.
They take advantage of all sorts welfare programs and they send their kids to college and because they're not reporting their income properly they qualify for all sorts of financial aide that normal people who make a normal income couldn't possibly get and still have to fist themselves to pay for tuition.

That's the same here in Australia within the affluent areas.  They're the first to take up all matter of welfare incentives to breed, school their darlings and use the healthcare system for free yet won't pay any tax per year.  Instead they've got a whole building of QC's and Accountants on call for them to make sure they pay nothing whilst living here.

I could do the same, join that nasty little boat of leaches and thieves but I'd rather pay what I owe since I can sleep at night and not worry about any possible tax audits coming my way.

By some incredible accident, no one even looks to the Australians to do anything on the world stage.
There are no jokes, no serious calls for action -- they don't even appear to rate derision.  :thumb:
In all seriousness, people in the Ukraine are dying, and the Soviet Union was a sh!thole country that oppressed its own people in horrifying ways for decades before collapsing under the weight of their own failed economic system. But now they're back, yay.

I stand corrected -- Aussies do rate derision.

World: "America, the Russians and Chinese are taking over the world and sending us all to work and re-education camps -- help us!"
America: "First you wanna to kill me, now you wanna kiss me." (spits cherry pit from mouth) "Blow."

Sure, America is imperfect. But who else has the stones left to take on authoritarian regimes? Brits? Yeah, maybe? French -- ha, ok, what do they bring to table? Right, cowering -- thanks. Look, I get it: America's awesomeness makes other countries feel a little insecure, and that's okay, we don't take it personally.

America!!! (slams foot on his car's accelerator)

I stand corrected -- Aussies do rate derision.

Trust me, Aussies suck SH!T everytime  :thumb: .  When the Yanks fart we inhale, when the Brits crap we eat it, .....that's all we do.

That's inspiring. Chicken Soup Droppings for the Soul.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. I don't use soy sauce and have not had one in the house for years. If I need salt I only need to eat a standard non home cooked meal and that should give me enough salt for a couple days. Or I could always buy a MacCrapBurger and that's enough salt for a week.

hey, people do take america seriously!
http://www.forbes.com/powerful-people/
see, american president is the second most influential person on the planet! oh, wait... he's the second after the president of those damn commie rooskies. never mind.

That is why Putin won't ever have the nerve to nuke his enormous wealth away.  Like to see where this will lead with Ukraine, whether the West has the balls to do anything besides b1tching via the media on how unfair it all is.

I suppose it'll come down to Obama and Putin, on who's got the BIGGEST balls in the world  8) .

wow i think that truck is bigger than my entire apartment.

Just imagine how many keyboards you could fit into the back of it!

It won't get far. I remember the last time they did a test of the Ford Humvee in the early 2000s, it started on the Washington-NY route with full gas and got stuck in a jam. It ran out of gas before  the jam was over. Mileage under jam conditions: 4 mile per gallon.

This one is even bigger.

You can't fit any keyboards in the back, because you need to hold extra gas tanks, otherwise you'n Bubba all be outta of gas drivin from ya backwoods coon-huntin shack in Ol Dixie to the local Monster Truck rally.

Just got back from the immigration office an hour and a half away after taking my citizenship test. This is the second time I've had to make this trip to this office for 30 minute appointments... The interview was less than 5 minutes long because I aced it so fast. Over 3 hours of driving to be out of my car for less than 30 mins... BUT now I'm pretty much officially MURICA!

When the interviewer asked me "what is one reason colonists came to America?" I answered, "Freedom," which is correct but what ran in my head:

Theme song in my head when the interviewer shook my hand and said congratulations:

Now I can walk into Bathroom & Beyond confidently with my chin raised up high lewl
