Why is it so hard to find XDA keycaps?
« on: Thu, 01 October 2020, 13:38:05 »
Hello,

I'm new to this hobby and I was just wondering why it's so hard to find XDA profile keycaps?

And while I'm here, where is it best to find them?

It is not difficult to find them but you will have to order from usually not "local" online stores unless you are in the US or China.

XDA @ Banggood: https://www.banggood.com/search/xda-keycaps.html?from=nav
XDA @ KBDFans: https://kbdfans.com/collections/xda-profile
XDA @ Drop: https://drop.com/buy/drop-mito-xda-canvas-keycap-set (27 days left)
XDA @ Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=xda+keycaps&crid=SWDF398ZONI7&sprefix=XDA+keycaps%2Caps%2C208&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_11
XDA @ kprepublic: https://kprepublic.com/search?type=product&q=XDA+keycaps
XDA @ ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=xda+keycaps&_sacat=0

I hope the above helps and gives you some guidance in your search.

Thank you for the links. :)

But I also kind of mean that for example at kbdfans.com there are way more Cherry or OEM keycaps than XDA.
And almost very IC I see on here is GMT or KAT.

Is XDA not popular or are they just more exclusive?

I am not sure if that there is a specific reason, but in my opinion and from my observations I would guess because the majority of people go for OEM or Cherry profiles, which is also what people who enter the hobby will usually go for as this is the main keycap profile you find on an off the shelf keyboard (Logitech, Microsoft, etc.). XDAs have too low profile for most people and maybe that is the reason.

Personally I prefer MT3 and SA profiles.

It's a relatively new profile, so not that popular.

Having used them myself, I doubt they will ever be that popular- they remind me of broad, flat, chicklet caps that you get on laptops. Which for me, makes them a little more difficult to type on than profiles with a more defined shape to them.
