Akko 3068 - kprepublic keycap set - keycap profiles
« on: Tue, 13 October 2020, 16:53:14 »
Hi All,

I'm very new to the scene and am trying to figure out something around keycap profiles etc.

I recently bought a Akko 3069 (9009 keycaps), but I stumpled upon this gorgeous set of keycaps with red japanese roots on it (kprepublic). I thought of buying the base keys only and keep my current modifiers, but it seems that my current keycaps are OEM, and the kprepublic ones are Cherry profile.

I guess that will not work ?

Alternatively I can by the whole lot of the kprepublic caps (base + modifiers + mod pro), but although all the non-standard modifiers seem to be in this set, the rows are not the same as my current setup.

The akko has a R2 1u delete, in the kprepublic kit its on R1. And the akko's R4 1U Pg Dn it's on R3. Would this make a huge difference, or am I really overthinking this?

Thanks a bunch for your advice, I'm hoping to become a more proficient member of the community soon!

Hello and welcome!

The problem I see is the different keys location as you have already noticed. Being in different rows affects on how it probably feels and how you see it as every row has a different desing for "ergonomics".

As you can see, every row has a different high, but you can use cherry or any other "mx" keycap, it depends on the switch that you could use the keycap or not.

Thanks a lot for your response, that certainly makes a lot of sense.
I ordered the full set anyways as i'm planning to buy a hotswappable TKL (probably GMMK) to be able to test some different switches.
Next step after that is hopefully building and soldering a new kb from scratch. I'm really loving reading up about this stuff, just hoping it will not burn a hole in my wallet over time !
