Title: Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber Plates?
Post by: Hyde on Tue, 23 May 2017, 20:15:55

So this offers Fibreglass and Carbon Fiber plate options.

Anyone tried either of those?  What are the benefits?

plastic is softer more springy.

metal is more rigid.

In the case of --a keyboard--   it comes down to they way it LOOKS

I want to say carbon fiber is mostly for the look but I'd guess it feels somewhere between alu and plastic.

Carbon fiber looks nice and also feels nice. It has a more sturdy feel than, say, acrylic plastic and is less costly than anodized aluminum.

Ah ok cool, so it's about half way in between.

Would you say then between Fibreglass and Carbon Fibre it would be mostly the took?  I'd imagine hardness they should be similar?

Both seems like woven rigid material.

With carbon fiber would you have to glue the switches on though?

I think it would still snap in same as metal plates.  Cherry switches have built in notches that snap into the groove.

I'd imagine it should work exactly the same on carbon fiber plates.

The switches snap into place on carbon fiber just like with a metal plate. No problems at all.

Carbon fiber is more rigid than fiberglass. According to what I searched online, its 3 times stiffer than steel and aluminum for a given weight.
