The Golf R and the S3 is basically the same with FWD bias and same engine. I want a hatch though.

Delivery won't be until Oct/Nov so a long wait time.

The S3 and Golf R dilemma is the same one I'm currently facing.  At the end of the day, I'm probably going to go with the S3.  I still prefer it's interior, exterior, and general feel even though the two are so similar.  At the track, the lack of a true AWD is teribad but I'm stuck in SoCal traffic 99% of the time so who cares.  Plus, might as well stick with Audi.  The dealership treats me great and I have no complaints.

Yeah, not a bad idea.  Grab that, go stage one and call it a day.  Perfect for a daily driver.  Don't really need anything else.

$1400 isn't too bad.

For a little while I was feeling mad plebe reading this thread in my stock Altima but....I'm happy I'm not into car tuning since "$1400 isn't too bad" nearly had me spitting my water out. I'd rather save that $1400 and spend it on filling my car with roadtrip memories :).

Not trying to **** on anyone, I actually like reading this thread a lot! Just isn't where I want to spend my money.

Some good roads out there.  I used to live in Canyon Country and would do Bouquet Canyon road out to Elizabeth Lake road and back to Canyon Country.  Not super twisty, but still fun.  I preferred Angeles Crest - many tires worn out on that road  :thumb:

So I was talking to a friend who is trading in his fost for a fist. He was telling us the RS will start at 40k. The mark up is going to be 20k, so we are looking at MINIMUM 60k. Also, they are only getting 13 cars. That dealership already has a 48 person wait list. 500 dollar deposit before you can buy. And no test driving. so yeah, not going to be cheap.

Hope it sells and we can get a fiesta rs

U srs?

Literally every part I've had to replace on my wife's VW cost 3x what it cost for my SVTf, which is even more expensive to get parts for than a normal focus. A new dual mass clutch/flywheel in my SVTf cost $700 for parts and labor, wife's dual mass VW clutch/flywheel was $1800 with parts and labor. Even normal maintenance is harder, you need a special tool to remove the plugs AND you have to remove 2/3 of the entire intake track including the intake manifold. There's 4 bolts on my SVTf that need removed and you can do plugs and wires. And don't get me started on that stupid VAGCOM system. Honest to god I wouldn't even take a free Volkswagen because of all the nightmares I've ran into with this one.

Exactly my friend. Trust me I know.. I used to be the BIGGEST VW and Audi guy ever. I have a VW tattoo for crying out loud. I've had 2 gtis, an a4, and a 100s. I also had a Mini Cooper s. I absolutely still LOVE to look at and drool over all euro. Love looking at them and driving them. But I will never own a euro again. All of them constantly needed repairs and it was expensive as ****. I've never been happier with a car then my Honda reliability wise. Of course the euros were funner, but I plan to get an SI one day and that will help that aspect haha. But for now my EX is great. Still love to drool over gtis and s4s but no way I'd own one again. I don't regret owning them because I loved them all, I just wouldn't do it again.

Sorry you've had such a ****ty experience :(

I was reading/replying with Tapatalk so I didn't see you were a Brit :P  I've got to assume it's quite a different situation in the UK, I could see german cars/parts being more reasonable than Fords. Here in the states VWs, Audis, BMWs, and Mercs are probably the most expensive cars on the road to own and maintain.

It can be a headache even finding an American mechanic who's willing to work on German cars like that. The mechanic I've been going to for a few years will only do basic stuff like oil changes, air filters, tires, etc on VW's but he will tear into just about any project on a Ford or Chevy :)) I usually end up at a VW specialty shop for anything in-depth because of the array of special tools required and various gotcha's on German cars.

Totally understand. My wife's VW is fun to drive, rides so nice, and has a ton of creature-comforts, if it were leased or under warranty I might actually really enjoy that car. However, with 100K on the clock that thing is quickly approaching boat-anchor status with all the repair costs. Sometimes it crosses my mind that maybe a GTI or R32 would be a fun car to own but everytime I see a mechanic bill for the wifes car it quickly cures me.

I've got a buddy with a 2004 Civic (base) and hes got like 250K on the clock and I'm pretty sure the only thing he's had to do was normal maintenance and an AC compressor. The thing has held it's value phenomenally well too! If my wife wanted to replace her VW with a Honda I would be ecstatic :))

Yeah, it seems in the UK that European cars are a lot cheaper than what you've experienced. While Audis are still p expensive, VWs are really reliable and pretty cheap.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
