THE Vulcan bomber. An incredible plane, shame the only serviceable one has now been put to rest due to lack of funds.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Woke up super early today. It's that time of year again to put the summers to rest, and just wanted to remind everyone that it's dangerous to drive with the wrong tires below 7 deg C!

Summer performance tires harden under 7C and it's very important to make sure you have the right tires in the winter.

It looks like 5 series rims, similar to my Grandma's old 5 series but body almost doesn't look the same. I don't remember what model she had but she traded it in for a 435i, I like the 4 series a lot.

I'm gonna go with 4 series coupe, yeah they're decent cars I like em. I see people driving around in 128i's now - I've never heard of those before are they a newer thing??

Reminds me of the good old days. I actually had a 96-2000 Civic EX as my first car. That thing was super light.

Should I buy an 8 year old Lexus RX400h ? Would I be asking for trouble?
My line of thinking is it's a Toyota so it should be good for at least 10 - 15 years...

Huge Lexus fan here.

Don't know about the hybrids, but the Rx series (rx300, rx350, etc.) is extremely reliable. However, your question is WAYYYY too broad. It's really car by car basis.  Could you provide some more information about the amount of mileage, service records, where the car is located, vin # (I don't have a carfax source anymore, but someone can run a carfax), etc.

Haven't picked a specific one yet. Just choosing what to choose. Was previously thinking 4yr old Focus, but realised for the same money I could get that higher driving position without sacrificing too much in mpg. Just wondering about general reliability of such an old car.

Ah I see! If you can I would highly suggest the non hybrid series such as the Rx350. Might be less efficient on gas but definitely more reliable.

Hmmm. I'm really only interested in the hybrid one. Are they really that bad? Any suggestions on how to spot a good one? Maximum mileage to consider?

Maybe I'm just really old school or us car enthusiasts really like our gas vehicles. I have friends/family who have hybrids and when something goes wrong (such as a battery replacement) on my cousins Toyota Prius bills can rack up pretty fast. On the other hand, I have had no problems with gas vehicles (just major/minor service, oil/transmission changes), which I do myself. This is in no way a correlation between hybrids are less reliability, simply just based off my single experiences

Another STI owner, have you done anything to it? My manager during high school bought a new STI, it was pretty fun to drive. :thumb:

So I was just discussing with a guy at work what cars we would get if we won the lottery. Our lists were pretty extensive, but I would like to know what GHers would get if money was no object. Let's limit it to, say, three?

My top 3 would be:

  • An Audi RS7
    More
  • A Ferrari Dino (246GT)
    More
  • And... The third is the hardest... A Mercedes 300SL
    More

Yours?

Yuh.

All we need is for Ferrari to get back into endurance racing, and VW to get into F1 and my motorsport dreams will be a reality.

While there are many cars I'd like to get, I will only list cars that I feel aren't impossibly out-of-reach. Hopefully sometime during my lifetime, I will get to drive or own some of these.

I would never buy a car that I'd hesitate to drive out, so I factor in the costs of ownership, maintenance and driveability in my choices.

If photos are worth a thousand words, then videos are worth a million words. ^-^

The following are out of reach, but would be possible in any person's lifetime:

1) G500 4×4²
This one literally goes anywhere. Already slowly working on modding my G500 to similar specs, but certain things such as portal axles aren't that financially viable at the moment. This is a car that is very easy to maintain, but require some time, knowledge, and dedication to keep it the best it can be. It is actually a lot more cost-efficient to build your own G500 into similar specs than to outright buy this one, you just need to know who manufactures which parts.

2) 1960s Ford GT40
I really love the classic Le Mans race car styling in the 60s. This one is less realistic and more of a dream, as I don't think I'd be capable in maintaining it well without spending too much. Finding one in great condition would be difficult as well.
This will definitely be the one that spends the most time in the garage, but will still be driven on warm, sunny days.

3) E92 335is DCT fully-modded
Yes, this one is my daily driver (in stock form), but it has a lot of potential to be a well-balanced high hp sleeper that no one would bat an eye at if they saw it on the streets.
Besides, what's the point of having a dream car if you don't plan on driving it? :P This is the real dream.
I would need to do the following to get it to my ideal specs:
JRZ RS Coilovers
M3 suspension bits swap
Harder bushings
OS Giken LSD
Catless downpipes
Larger FMIC
COBB flash with custom tune
Clutchpack and software upgrade for the DCT
Perhaps a stock-frame upgraded turbos if anything proves to be reliable (will have to wait perhaps 5 years later to see if any builds are still running without problems).
I have no problems with only going full-bolt-on, without messing with the turbos, as I value reliability and driveability over anything else. It already has more than enough usable power at stock form for spirited driving.

Hopefully when all is done, will end up with a well-balanced street car, with lots of usable power, smooth/bulletproof transmission, and still reliable with routine maintenance.

The best part of this is that I can take my time to mod it part by part after the factory warranty is up, but still, modding a car is never a good idea due to the increased potential reliability issues. At stock form, the car is already a dream to drive with enough torque and buttery-smooth DCT shifts. Will need a lot of excess savings if I decide to go down this path, but otherwise I'm more than happy with the stock car.

My top 3 would be:
  • Audi RS7
  • Ferrari Dino 246 GT
  • Mercedes 300 SL

Yup that 300 SL is worth a few million euros if I'm not mistaken  :o

The Dino was totally affordable not so long ago: nobody wanted it, it was considered the "****ty" "not Ferrari" Ferrari. I think it's georgous and I'm very happy for those who bought it when it was worth next to nothing.

Btw that Dino was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti while he was working at Pininfarina. Fioravanti also supervised the design of the 348 (and the design of the 288 GTO and the design of the F40 etc.).

In my top three there has to be a car designed by Leonardo Fioravanti / Pininfarina : between the F40 and the 288 GTO it's an hard choice but I'd go with the 288 GTO.  There would have to be a McLaren too: I'd be tempted to pick the recent 675 LT but as there's no limit, I'd got for a McLaren F1 (fun fact: it has three seats).

My top three:

  • Ferrari 288 GTO 118065-0
  • Lamborghini Miura (the old one) 118063-1
  • McLaren F1 118067-2
These are all cars in the 7-digits range value-wise  :D
Maybe maybe maybe replace one of the these with the more affordable (but still not very affordable) Porsche 911 Speedster from 1989.

I look forward to these videos every year

FML because I nearly bought an used Porsche 911 model 996 GT3 18 months ago or so for about 42 K EUR...  Now it's easily 2x if not 2.5 to 3x that price if you want one.

It was honestly a bargain at such a low price but girlfriend found it ugly so I didn't pull the trigger.

I used to be a car nut back in the college and uni days. Spent almost all of my monies on rims and bodykits. I have the privilege to enjoy quite a diverse bunch of cars cause my dad is a car nut himself.

I think I still have pics of some of my cars in my office iMac. Will post here once I get it :)
Please feed my addiction.

Oh btw I got the remote starter installed today.   Now I can actually warm my car up in the mornings!  (large apartment complex, outside parking, don't feel like walking all the way down and back up)

And I'm still doing research on tires, but I'll be picking up some winter tires at some point in the next week or so.  :thumb:  (because I know you are all waiting to hear about that :P )

I can't believe you put the Miura second!

My list:

1:  1968 Miura P400 SV(might as well go for the best one since $$ is no object).  This would also be conditional in that it must come with a mechanic that is familiar with tuning the carbs.  In this color.

2:  F40 LM

3:  Eagle E-Type speedster.  This one is a bit more realistic than the other 2  ;)
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

So I was just discussing with a guy at work what cars we would get if we won the lottery. Our lists were pretty extensive, but I would like to know what GHers would get if money was no object. Let's limit it to, say, three?

My top 3 would be:

  • An Audi RS7
    More
    Show Image
  • A Ferrari Dino (246GT)
    More
    Show Image
  • And... The third is the hardest... A Mercedes 300SL
    More
    Show Image

Yours?

Hmmm... money no object you say?

1. Alfa Romeo T33 Stradale (single headlight version) - beautiful beyond words
2. Lamborghini Miura P400 (one of the first 125 that were made with thinner steel) - purest of the Miuras, beautiful, functional and the first true supercar
3. McLaren F1 - technical tour de force, stupendously fast

Much more likely to achieve list:
1. Lotus Elise S1
1. 2. Peugeot 106 Rallye
2. 3. Mazda MX-5 NA
3. Original Mini

I have the Mini already, so I'm on my way!  :p <EDIT - I decided to update the list since it's supposed to be a wishlist>
