That's ****in' awesome.  :D  You ditched the headlight tape?

Yeahhhh, thought it would help with the lack of light coming through onto the road, but it didnt :)) But I kinda like them like this.

Getting him back from the garage this morning, more pictures incoming...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

So, here's an album of my pictures from the weekend. - > http://imgur.com/a/fx4Q3

Some of my favourite cars/images:

This squareback only turned up for like an hour, but it was awesome. On air too

Nice Golf Country and a Caddy with a cover on the back

The interior from my friend Jack's Mk2

Golf Syncro (with standard 4wd system) doing foglights right

The bus and the Golf turned up together, the Nismo 370z was turning up for a blast round the track

And this Golf was probably my favourite of the whole weekend

Photo of mine all loaded up

And with friends :D

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

So I talked myself out of buying that car. Booked the flights to America instead :D

Spent Saturday/Sunday in Manchester. Sunday was my second show of the year, FittedUK. My favourite cars of the weekend were:

This beautiful old Audi (i'm a sucker for a roof rack)

An insanely lowered Lotus

The ultimate in "**** you" car projects, a Polo with 14J - YES, FOURTEEN INCH WIDE - wheels at the rear. There is a picture from the weekend of a child sat in the wheel.

Imgur is being stupid so I have no idea which pictures i have uploaded and which ones I haven't, but i'm getting there slowly...

I decided this morning was a good time to declare all my modifications to my insurers the morning I was meant to drive down to London.

My insurance quote went from 950 a year to over 3000. So I told them to shove it then I had to wait until 9am for another place to open to get a quote from them... Which at 1200 isn't too bad.

So in the past I have berated myself for being bad with money. I keep spending money on keyboards, car parts, and general crap. But this weekend I have decided that no more shall I waste money on crap for the car.

Instead, my shopping list has been finalised. Now I have a Lightsaver pretty much in my possession, I have no need for anything else keyboard related. Therefore, I am looking at about £15,000 worth of stuff I want to do to the car. LMAO. It sounds like a lot when you put it like that.

My ideas about the wheels have taken a turn. Initially I wanted to go copper plating. Then that was too expensive, and I decided I would go with powder coating instead. Now, I am looking at something like this:

(Don't worry, they won't be blue)

My wheels will be cut down, and turned from one piece cast 15" wheels to three piece 17" wheels. This is achieved by adding a one inch lip all the way round the face, which I think is the minimum you can do with wheels like these. 17" wheels work on a Golf, but I think that's the biggest you can go without looking stupid, bearing in mind the stock wheels were 13s... I've been quoted for around 2000 euros, which is about £1700.

I am going back to the copper plating idea and the faces will be done, which brings the price down on the original quote I was given. Part of me wants to put a dish on them, but with the offset I have at the moment, I don't know if that is possible. With another part of the plan I think I may have to roll the arches a bit for some wider front wheels... The price I had on full wheel plating was £300 per wheel. I imagine this would halve because the £1700 above includes a refurb, which the £300 included before. So we are looking at maybe £400-500 for the faces plated. I reckon.

Next up I am toying with either the engine swap or putting it on air (inb4 bags are for ***s). I think if I put a new engine in it before I uprate the suspension, I would have to uprate the coilovers, which I think is a waste of money. So I reckon I need to put it on air first. A full air install with custom hardlines, remote control, four corner control, is about £5,000 from these guys: http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/air-ride-installs/

How fricking beautiful are those setups at the bottom? Amazing. At this point I'm going to have to have a beater to drive around in. A mk4 tdi or a Passat or something. Practical, efficient, but not quite boring. I can't be using something on air for a daily driver  :)) Imagine a black tank, copper hard pipes, black compressors, on copper splits. It would be amazing.

Finally, comes the engine swap. A friend who lives in my city can supply and fit a 3.0l TDi from an Audi A5 for £8,000. I believe this includes transmission as well, however the A5 is a Quattro, so I do not know how that is going to work... Might need to be this  first and air ride second hahaha. On top of this I'm going to need a custom exhaust, up-rated brakes, and yeah, those thick tyres. The 3.0l starts at 237hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, but I reckon that could be pushed to just shy of about 400bhp with some magic...

This on top of the seats which I haven't got a quote for right now. But I am waiting on finding a pair of front seats and we are good to go for the re-upholstery. The rear bench needs to be altered slightly to fit into my car, and whatever front seats I get will probably need some alterations too, but there we go.

It's all dreams. But we can all dream can't we?

It's all dreams. But we can all dream can't we?
Absolutely.

My dream at the minute is a 2017 Mini Cooper S... I can afford one soon, but it's hard to think that I'll be able to get what is essentially my dream car. I've even been to a dealership (by accident) and specced it - I know everything I need to know when I get it. I keep saying it's when, not if. Because it is, because I will.

It's probably pretty stupid to be buying new, as my parents never bought a new car, never mind something so recent. But that's probably why, it's almost a fantasy to me. I know exactly which options I want, and which additional "accessories" I'll have. I've probably been obsessing way too hard over them, but I'm absolutely in love with them.

Hopefully early next year I'll be able to put my order in; lets just hope my financial position doesn't change.

Bro, I always spec up cars online. Audi A7s, RS7, VW Touregs, loads of ****.

Brand new cars are silly for a number of reasons, but great for the freedom they give you and how easy it is to get a hold of one. And even free insurance on some is just awesome.

I also haven't factored in doing a full chassis restore and bodywork and everything like that. That will probably have to be the point it comes off the road and goes into a shop for a good few months.

Brand new cars are really good - I get exactly what I want. And the rest is pretty much downhill.

I haven't found a pre-owned car with even a few of the "essentials" for me - the color, the leatherette seats, the JCW spoiler... I have 6/7 mandatory things, and this means I will never find a pre-owned one.

I forgot about insurance - it's £3k for the first year :( Mini wouldn't even offer me a payment plan, never mind insurance for a 18 year olds first car...

The idea behind all of it is just ****ing silly, apart from the motivation it's giving me.

I can dream.

Yeah. That's why I initially decided to go towards powder coating, so I could use the wheels more than just for shows. But I thought, if i'm going to drop £1700 on splitting them, I might as well go for real copper.

I thought, with all copper wheels, barrels, rim and face, it would be too much effort polishing and cleaning after every use. But I think just the face will be alright. I would just have to unbolt the faces and clean them each time which would be alright I think.

Yea, I don't think that would be too bad. And plus, the added contrast should look nice.

This feels kinda necroy, but I finally get to post in here with my car. Decided to go to some nice roads today and take a couple of pictures of my new car.

I'm in love with the shape of this car. Might just be me, but the front looks kinda aggressive, and the rear is just proportioned really well. The alloys need to go through, they look pretty lame. I wish the exhaust looked a bit better too, but not sure I can do much about that :'(. Tempted to take the Polo/1.4 badges off too, but I'll have to think about that further.

Praise the lord someone revived this thread.

I really like that shape of Polo. I'm glad you like it! I think you are right about the alloys, are they 14s? I think you maybe need something slightly bigger...

I wouldn't Take the badges off if it were me, just be proud of what you are driving! :D

So I had an accident and I couldn't afford to take it to the body shop. I also didn't want it to rust so I thought I would do a bit of DIY bodywork...

First of all I sanded the affected areas with 500 grit. The scrape on the arch was already rusted after just a few days exposure to the elements.

Next up, 1000 grit

Then I used etch primer (white was the only colour I had) to prepare the area for painting.

I am so ****ing terrible with a spray can I can't begin to tell you. The spread of the paint on here is just because I am not accurate at all. It's really thick in places and it looks pretty terrible. But at least it won't rust.

(Yes I got the tyre too, its ****ing awful  :)) )

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
