If only they would have made a real 'special' for us with 1.5 modifer mount and programmable controller, I would have been all over it.

For those blacks lovers, see my sale thread for a good deal...

BTW, the plate will actually be black in color (no other color options at this time).

I will have pricing for switches shortly.  These switches can be used either directly on the PCB or plate-mounted.

Stay tuned

If it is at all possible can you stock some Cherry MX Clears switches?  I'm not interested in the DIY kit, but I'd like some of these for other project boards.

Seeing as Vortex only has MX red/blue/brown/black I wouldn't get my hopes up on clears

it would probably be easier and cheaper for a handful of people to GB digikey or mouser for clears

i would wait until after the switch GB shipments go out first though; i suspect at least a few people will be offloading switches they discover they don't want/need at that point.

512/8=64
64*.73=$46.72

So, 8 people could pitch in $47 and buy enough Cherry MX Clears for 64 keys a piece. Enough to build 8 TKL Pokers with 3 spare keys. Not bad.

That's Mouser's price, DigiKey is way more expensive @.9625ea for 500.  Problem is, Mouser only has 312 units and none on order.  If you go plate mount then Mouser does have 655, so enough for the cheapest price tier.

Hey iMav, can we buy just the plates?  I PM'd you, but I'm sure your inbox stays swamped.  Thanks.

If the kit includes
2 PCBs and 1 aluminum case,
and if one only have to solder switches(purchased separately) and add key caps to make a working keyboard,
does it mean the kit includes stabilizers?

I would think so, but I do not find any stabilizers in the pics of the PCBs.

Go check out the OP... I think he's listed stabilizers now.

Have a couple more questions ... all of my questions grouped here for covenience:

The plate looks like it's for the pure, any word on that?
Can we just buy plates?
Can we just buy PCBs?
Can we just buy those cherry keycaps?
Can we just buy those aluminium trays?
Are these sets limited in quantity?
Is there a cut off date for ordering?
Is there any estimates on first shipment dates?

Apologies if it's too soon to be asking, just curious! Thanks!

These are all good questions.  As you can see in the one above this, I'd like to know about the plates, too.  Thanks for putting this together, iMav!

Looks like a forum rollback or something ate my post, so I'll just post this again.
I am only interested in a PCB and plate. If anybody wants to sell me their extra PCB and a plate, that would be great. I could also do the soldering provided you also supply me switches and stabilizers. If you are interested, then feel free to send me a PM, and hopefully we can work something out!

Though if iMav could get a price for just PCBs, that would be better. Those aluminum cases are just plain out of my price range.

Well, for what it's worth... jumping on the bandwagon and all, I'd like to offer my soldering services to anyone that would like them, and as payment I would take the spare PCB.  I'll cover shipping as necessary (if you can have everything shipped directly to me, that makes it far easier).  I have both US and Canadian shipping addresses.  Just send me a PM if you're interested.

nop.

Poker is already a low market product, and is I believe more used in asia than in europe. So there is almost no chance to ever get an iso poker, unless kbt grows by a lot. They are still at the very beginning.

Should just be:

Keyswitches
Keycaps
USB Cable
Mounting screws ?
Diodes.

Time (Money is included in the GB :p )
Solder and soldering iron/wave table.

Looks like the PCB supports LED's.

Diodes are used in keyboard matrices in order to avoid ghosting.  Google for Keyboard Matrix Circuit if you want to learn the theory behind it.

I didn't see them on the board, I assume they are on the back?

I noticed the LED holes, and wondered if it supports LED's. If it does, then you'd have to buy those diodes.

Two questions ...

Anyone planning any sort of group buys for switches?

What is everyone planning on using for keycap sets? I'm just a little curious (and new). I know they're Cherry MX but not sure where to get a set for this layout.

Thank you,

re: switches

there was recently a group buy for plate mount switches, and i'm guessing the forum will be awash with them in a month or so, but the poker will probably feel best with pcb mount switches, which aren't as common around here. you might want to ping the_ed, as he usually has a large stock of pcb-mount switches. note that he gets his from the same place you would probably look for cheap ones -- many old cherry boards used pcb mount switches and can be found for less than the switches would cost new.

re: caps

any filco-compatible cherry MX keycap set will fit the poker. this includes the KBC sets that feng and qtan sell, as well as the PBT sets that imsto is selling right now. this also includes the signature plastics doubleshot sets that are being ordered in the group buy forums. order a basic 87 or 104-key set, and everything will fit fine on the poker. note that the one thing to watch out for is that not all sets can be mixed and matched. KBC keys do not have the same profile keys as signature plastics.

alternatively, i have a used ABS set from a poker for sale in my classifieds thread, lol

also, i'm still looking for pcbs folks :P

I'm curious why. Could you explain. I would have thought stiffness, no flex, would be more desirable and that that would be best achieved with a plate mount.

Thanks,
John

you can still mount a plate on pcb-mount switches. "pcb-mount" just means that they have two extra fixation pins on the bottom of the switch to mechanically tie them to the PCB. hence, the most rigid mounting setup is plate + pcb-mount switches. given most of our experience with production pokers, you're probably going to want the most rigid possible configuration :P

Yes, he never put it back.  No offense to iMav, but the prices were a bit high.  Mouser had slightly better rates on switches, but their quantities are limited.  The best deal was the Phantom GB.  I missed that actual PCB GB, but I'm glad I binged on the switch portion.  Others did the same, so expect to see them in the classifieds.

Couple of questions ....

Are the switches that have be relisted both plate mount and PCB mount?

How do the Green and Light Grey compare to Red, Black, Brown and Blue?

Why do the prices seem to be quite a bit more than, say, mouser? Am I comparing apples and oranges?

Thanks all,
John
