Okay so here's how dyesub keys get made:
SP takes an image, with all of the keys that they are going to be making's svgs on it, and they print that onto sublimation paper. The keys are then run through the machine and made all at once, then the machine takes them and dumps them into the individually wrapped bag you saw last round. Some of the suggestions would end up being vastly more expensive as they require being run individually of others. For example if we offer singles of the original set, for someone to get a complete original set it would likely cost $80 or more because you'd probably be paying over $6 per key in any of the likely quantities we'd be running.
I love the orange and blue portal guys, but if its going to be on a black key it has to be a doubleshot, since dyesub doesn't work on black keys. That poses some issues with the legends methinks, but I'm willing to see what Melissa says about them. I'm assuming Hazeluff knew the requirements when he made them so they should work, but they do need some modification. The tiny hole behind the knee on the blue key isn't going to work, neither are the edges by the foot and the shoulder of the orange key. I would move the orange guy a little more out of the portal to show more of the leg/shoulder and either more in or more out for the blue guy so that hole is either workable size or gone. Doubleshots can do small dots, the random key from the SC2 group buy is enough proof of that, but that svg makes it look like a 1 pixel dot. Hazel if you could send me the relevant SVGs you'd like me to consider running that would be great, and I'll post them up when it gets time for decisions.
We could also do dyesubs on the color of the portal keys, blue and orange work well if we use black legends.
There was an old idea to just do orange and blue portal doubleshots on black keys. 1 portal per key, but how we would keep that from just looking like an oval is up to you guys.
Basically remember this when considering options:
Dyesub gives us massively more detail, and I prefer it for anything beyond a simple legend. In almost all cases, I'm going to want to do it on the same color PBT as we had initially, for matching purposes, and especially if we do colors in the legends, as the colors show up the best on the white bases.
Doubleshots for singles, as dyesubs are much more expensive to run as singles
Spacebars cannot be run as dyesubs, since the PBT bows out too much for it to function. I'm thinking the only workable suggestion so far for that would be just to use a text legend "Spaaaaaaaaacccceeee" or similar for that. We couldn't put a good looking core of any kind on a doubleshot key. Same goes for potatoes, portal gun, GLADoS, and anything else complicated legend wise.
As for rows, row 4 is generally what we go with for a variety of reasons. I can't see enough of an argument as to why F and J would make good portal keys, I like the idea of a mod key using the legends Hazel posted most.
I'm fine with changing the theme of this round from "warning signs" to just Portal, but we've gotta come up with good workable ideas, so keep what I posted in mind. Other than that, great ideas guys, and keep em coming.
