New poker
« on: Fri, 26 April 2013, 05:09:28 »
Hey,
Thought I'd share some pictures (and thoughts) about my recent change to my poker.

What my poker looked like a couple of days ago:

I bought a plated poker with ergo clears, and then also an alu pure case for it:

The plated board with ergo clears (in the stock case):

Part way through changing stuff around:

The low profile Pure case compared to the stock poker:

The finished product:

Whilst I love the look of it, I'm still not 100% sold on the ergo clears :/
My other poker has black switches, and so I think I might need to put heavier springs with the clear stems to get what I want. I just fancied a change, and thought something with a bit of tactile feedback/audible click would be nice, I tended to find browns not have enough feedback, and were a little too light for me, I would have gone for greens but I was offered the already plated board with ergo clears I couldn't really refuse.

Once I find out what screws I need I'll be putting my other poker together, just in the stock case, and I've got some spare brown switches, so I might have a go at switching springs/stems to see if I find a combo I really love. Obviously I've only had this board for a couple of days, and so I need to give it more time before I judge properly, the sound and feel of the board itself is lovely though, so weighty! :D

Feel free to ask any questions :)

Thanks, I think it looks great, not 100% sure on the feel/acoustics yet, but that's mainly due to changing a lot at once.

Nice work, George! Looking really good there.

I have some mounting screws, if you need some. I would only ask you to pay for the shipping. If you want to source some yourself, they are M2 (.4mm pitch) x 4mm pan head machine screws, 18-8 stainless. I got mine from McMaster-Carr.

Ooo, great build/swap log. I got to try mashby's aluminum Pure case (which I think is what you used) and it was so awesome. I'd highly recommend them. Thanks for the pics!

Thanks for the offer, but since you're in the US the shipping might be a little pricey? (I don't know, since they are so small, I've PM'd you my address so you could check)

Apparently the case is from this GB:

I really like the look of the exposed switches, and the fact the plate is (close to) flush with the edge of the case just makes it that little bit better :D

I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
Now part of me wouldn't mind the case/plate being coloured...

Pretty board! I sure want an aluminium case.

Thanks :)
Just put up a wanted thread, I got a bit lucky and found one almost instantly, but they're out there, and obviously with the GH60 GB there will soon be even more available :D

Definitely looks better than the stock case.
The plate seems to sit pretty nicely showing just enough of the underside of the internals.

Anyone done gold plated? not necessarily legit gold, but as in color?
