Love the color. Clackman needs to make an IPA beer clack.

One can hope.

Where are you getting your loons?

From Cantillon itself or various places around Oakland. I have friends who order it from Belgian or trade for it though too.

And how was that Sierra Nevada AHS??

It was pretty good, excited to try more of the low production special releases they will be doing, especially sours.

Didn't feel like doing a full review:

It's funky and interesting.  I really like it.  I saw some reviews that mentioned grapefruit flavors, but I really noticed tangerine and tangerine zest in it moreso and subtle notes of peach.  Pretty great little beer.

I've tried several local beers here in the Bay area and most are just average at best. Drake's Amber ale was a real disappointment.

Trendy Imperial IPA - Berryessa Brewing Co on tap at Hopwater Distribution was great though. Highly recommend it. I went to Cellarmaker and tried a few of theirs and they were pretty good. Dank Williams wasn't bad.

Laying out heresy today in this beer:  Bell's Two Hearted Ale

Appearance: Golden amber color, large frothy head with good retention, pretty substantial lacing.

Aroma:  Floral hops, juicy citrus like tangerine.

Taste:  Biscuit and mild caramel malts, earthy/herbal hops with mild floral and tangerine zest hop notes.  Resinous hops finish that lingers along with malts.

and now time for the heresy

Score: 7.5/10

Nothing about this beer is special to me.  Nothing about it really stands out and it reminds me of many good generic IPAs I've had.  Additionally, the malt characteristics are a little too present for me for it to really be considered a good IPA.  If anything, it seems more like a heavily hopped amber ale.

Now it's not a bad beer by any means, I just don't see it as a staple beer for me or one that I would go out of my way to find again.

Oh man , this thread is killing me.  Going on my 12th day straight of 12 hr shifs, so I haven't had time for a beer.  Just took a break to run to the market for something.

Thing I am going with a six pack of Cali Creamin.  Love this one, it's like grown up soda.

Got this one from the East Coast not too long ago: Terrapin Poivre (pepper for you non-francophiles) Potion

Appearance: Frothy head that develops into a one finger head as you pour, good head retention.  Dark golden color.

Aroma:  Belgian yeast sweatness (I always think of it as a slightly spiced banana bread smell) with herbal notes, subtle citrus zest, and an spice that I can't place.  Not a hot spice, but also not giving that nose opening peppery smell.

Taste:  Herbal and grassy notes with Belgian yeast sweetness.  Some might want to call it funky, but you can tell it's an herbal note with bitterness from the dry hopping and not a funky wild farmhouse saison style yeast.  Finishes with a saison sweetness and mild hoppy citrus zest and mild spice.

Score: 7/10

Hopped saisons seem to be kind of an in thing right now.  Most of the ones I've have are okay and somewhat unbalanced.  This one isn't bad, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to have it.  I do think it would pair well with something like a mushroom dish that has a nice savory earthiness to it.  I think it really is a beer that should be paired with a meal and not so much drunk on its own.

Normally I like saisons at fridge temp.  I think this one benefits from warming up a little.  As it warms up, I feel like it becomes more balanced and more drinkable.

The official answer is no.

Since there is no way for age verification, geek hack cant endorse that.

You are always welcome to private message people and trade at your own risk though.

I have sent beer to people and plan on round 2 here soon.

Tonight's beer, another trade.  Long Trail Imperial Stout

Aroma: peaty and smokey, some vanilla

Appearance:  dark brown with reddish hues.  Almost coke syrup color.  Thin head with poor retention, no noticeable lacing.  I did a more aggressive pour on a second glass and the head developed more fully into a decent head with minor alcohol lacing and marginally better retention.

Taste: smokey and peaty.  Some vanilla and malt sweetness.  Ashy and peat finish.  Slight ash tray at the end.  Thinner mouth feel and a little fizzy and some bitterness in the finish.  I can't really place the bitterness as it doesn't have the standard hop bitterness.  The bigger head brings out some caramel malts.

Score:6.5/10

I really couldn't decide how to score this one.  It's not a bad beer, but it's not at all in a flavor profile I would gravitate toward.  It might be for your whiskey drinker.  The huge issue I have with it is that slight ash tray finish.  The peatiness and smokiness are different and interesting, but I'm not a fan of drinking a brushfire.  It definitely gets more interesting as it warms up, but it's not really something I would go out of my way to get.  If you like peaty, smokey bourbon, this is probably the beer for you.

And I feel like an ******* for not writing great reviews about these beers that were sent to me.

This isn't necessarily beer, but this is the only active thread that's somewhat related :D

A friend of mine introduced me to mead a couple years ago, and this is by far my favorite. Somewhat strong at 19%, it's crazy smooth and very sweet, but has none of the 'heat' when drinking high percentage drinks. I can't recommend it enough. :thumb:

I love mead. Hard to come by though. Atleast decent mead. Where did you get that?

You may also like barley wine. Had as one really good barley wine in Seattle. It was like $12 just for a tiny snifter of it lol.

(sorry for the delay in advance)

For a while there was only one place locally that had it (Total Wine). Recently found out there's a place much closer to my house that has it.

Definitely took a while to hunt it down. I've tried a couple others, but none have been as good IMO. Definitely want to try barley wine as well. Any recommendations?

Scarface barrel aged stout from speakeasy brewing in SF:

Getting some homework done at the local pub with a lagunitas:

Lagunitas Citrusinesis(if I remember correctly it's new dog town pale ale with blood orange):

North Coast Brewing ACME IPA:

Alpine Brewing IPA:

And a Hoyne IPA I've had sitting in the pantry for a bit from my last trip up north:

Well it's not like I have much pull with him, but I have met him and sat in his Scarab at the track.  He lives a few miles from where I was raised, and I drive past his house all the time.  I'll ask my dad if he still has any connections.  :)

PS, if you ever see me with any Pabst memorabilia, this is why.  I don't have strong feelings one way or the other on the beer, but I was raised around the Pabst name and family so I feel it's a part of me.

I think this is a beer that will cellar very well. I've had it once before, and I think the bottling date was around two years prior to when I drank it and it was pretty darned good. Somewhat boozy, but smooth.

The store that I got it from only had three bottles left, with a one bottle per-customer limit. I had my girl buy one as well, so I have two bottles, one of which will be cellared for a long, long, time (hopefully 2-3 years).

I cellared a Stone IRS for about two years. What a delight that was.

Hope you like it.  I turned down this year's since last year's seemed too boozy and had an overpowering taste of bourbon to me.

I spoke to one of the brewmasters for Founders a few years ago when I used to frequent the brewery and he said KBS ages very well and that 2-3 years should be the sweet spot.

While KBS certainly is a cellar-able beer, in my super duper humble opinion I don't think KBS improves at all with age. At one point I had a 5 year vertical but KBS falls off a cliff after 3+ years. I drink mine within 6 months before the coffee fades out.

Currently drinking Scuttlebutt Triple 7 Belgian. It's ok, but I've had much better Belgian-style ales.

I'd give it a 3/5. Not impressed.

That reminds me that I need to get a package out to Bromono this weekend.  I was hoping to get another decent local brew to toss in it first.

Bro I found this local porter. Blew my socks off. It's a Mexican coffee porter. I sent one to Livingspeedbump, I need to get one out your way.

Waiting on Jesterking to release their spring fruits.
