No more top case dent, custom cyan anodizing, corrected gasket slots and one sexy potato

Show Image

Will build it once Miami GMK ships to me. Ordered some MOD switches to go with it. Too lazy to mod my own switches now, it gets really dull after you've done like 2000 of them.

sorry for yellow lighting

The one on the left looks pretty green. Interesting color difference.

I haven't seen the replacement cyan in person, and it was meant to be less green than the one from the GB, but the picture is making the case on the left look straight green, which it isn't. It's more of a turquoise in person.

ya it's just yellow lighting in my room. the color difference also isn't that big when i look at it in person, must be some galaxy s6 camera ****ery going on, i know my S5 cam had a problem displaying colours correctly when there's a big colour contrast present in the photo.

I will try to get better pictures... one day.

as far as i'm aware it was offered in the first run, but it was about $90 more than the aluminum option

Beautiful keyboard, I should browse around GH more often  :thumb:
The angled part of the bottom is nicely hidden. The board looks almost like it is in semi-levitation.

A couple updates on the wrist rest.

It's especially obvious from this picture that the polycarbonate looks kind of splotchy. I believe that was exacerbated by the sandblasting, which left super fine particulate on it that soaked up oils and gave it that splotchy look. My friend had a great suggestion, which was to rub an oil over the entire polycarbonate surface to give it essentially a uniform coating. So I wiped it down with a damp rag to get rid of as much particulate as possible, and then applied a super, super thin layer of a synthetic oil. It looks amazing now -- super uniform look and barely any noticeable splotches from my palms resting on it. It also felt sort of chalky before (I think due to the fine particulate on the surface), and it doesn't feel that way now (it feels much better imo). I'll likely treat all of the polycarbonate parts this way before sending them out if/when a GB happens.

For folks asking about getting one, I'm going to hold off for a month+ for a couple of reasons. First, I want to wait long enough that folks can get one who ordered a No. 1 in the second round, and the timing on that is still a bit up in the air. Second, I want to see how the finish holds up to consistent use. The polycarbonate is sandblasted, and I expect my palms will polish it over time, which might not be a good look. I want more time to evaluate how fast that happens and explore alternatives if needed.

Maybe you could experiment with tung oil containing varnishes? They're usually what's used to seal wooden handles on weapons on such so they're supposed to be resistant to skin oils.

Is this second round something people can get in on? Or are the spots already filled.

Byker's is black, if that's what you're referring to.
