I want to make an extra row of function keys to sit above F1-F12 on the my Model M keyboard, and hook them up using  a Teensy.  Basically, my own, better version of http://xkeys.com/xkeys/xk16.php. I may even add a fingerprint reader such as https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13007, and, of course, lots of LEDs.

I'm a software engineer by profession; I play with embedded stuff, but so far everything I've done has been with stripboards and wires and breakout boards. The learning curve for PCB layout tools is fairly steep, and I also lack domain knowledge. I haven't laid out my own PCB in decades, back when we were doing it with pressure-transfer labels! I don't want to build something that would look to a hardware engineer what most of the code that's out there for Arduinos looks to me (hint: it looks like what my cats leave in their litterbox twice a day :) ).

Anyone want to collaborate on this? I'm in NYC, so if you're in the area we can design it over beers :)

I don't know if it was intentional, but the first line of text is very tiny.
