Modification Pok3r RGB / LE for shorter height
« on: Wed, 13 June 2018, 13:27:52 »
Is it possible to mod the Pok3r RGB / LE to make it shorter?

What I mean by that - are there any known modifications possible of these boards that will cut down on the total height of the front row of keys, back row of keys respectively? IE: bring the front height of ~30mm down to ~20mm, ~25mm?!

That's exactly what I mean.

Im not positive on this, but are you sure that the case is actually higher on the LE? Are you sure it isnt just that its a high profile case so it appears higher? The height of the top of the keycaps is probably relatively close to the same height off the desk.

Just venturing a guess. Good luck on your quest.

I'd say go get a low profile case and install some cherry or dsa profile keycaps, if that's still not enough, buy a higher chair or cut a opening on your desk to make the keyboard lower.

There aren't any options in the tray 60% case market for specifically lowering the height of the switches in boards. I'm presuming you mean the height of the switches relative to the desk.

The only thing possible is by just having a case designed to be shorter (or with it in mind). You aren't able to modify anything in the PCB/plate/switches portion.

As ag36 mentioned, going from the stock caps (OEM) to Cherry profile will lower the typing surface a little bit, but it obviously won't move the switches down.

A low profile case also won't move the switches down on purpose (it could move them higher/lower though, there just isn't documentation on it), it'd just make the front wall height (that you'd essentially need to "overcome" anyway) a little bit shorter.

No more ideas?! No power recommendations for low profile mechanical boards?

Getting a low profile keyboard is perhaps easier, why you're pursuing low height?

What I mean by lower profile is actually low height... and the reason is ergonomics. I cannot even fathom why boards of +30mm front row keys exist.

I always had the thoughts of lowering my keyboard but I have about 30+ keyboards so that's not very viable to mod my keyboards, personally I think you need to look for a lower table or have a cutout on your table for your keyboard to sit low because mx switches are already pretty tall and low profile switches are not common yet.

Maybe wait for new Coolermaster keyboards. They will have a lower profile.

It sounds to me like you have a VERY EXPENSIVE desk/chair that is positioned too high to your liking and you're trying to bandaid fix the problem haha.

I would suggest you to get yourself a cherry profile keyset (GMK, OG cherry ds, etc) which should help reduce the height a bit but other than that... detach the PCB from the case and just use your keyboard bare-case??? Should be okay if you put a spongy bottom piece of plastic or something underneath the PCB.

I think you mean the chair is not positioned high enough.  I cannot mount the keyboard high enough. I sometimes sit on a book so the keyboard is at
a more comfortable height.
