Dark Knight released ten years ago.
« on: Wed, 18 July 2018, 08:25:10 »
It's been a decade since The Dark Knight released in US theaters. I was so stoked to see it. I remember seeing some prop burned vehicles on downtown Chicago streets as I walked past for work, and plenty of Chicago cop cars with GPD on the side.

I wasn't too big on the first film, and was very skeptical when they announced Ledger as the Joker, but when they showed him in makeup for the first time it got my attention. That, and the viral marketing was great.

By the time the first full trailer hit I had to see it. Friend of mine got prerelease tickets. Saw it two more times right after release.

Saw it at the cinema at the time though wasn't really a fan of it. I think it was a combination of the Joker's edgy portrayal and how people made it into some larger than life thing due to Ledger's passing. Seem to remember enjoying the first film more.

Haven't seen the sequel, heard it's better in some respects.

Yea, most have good things to say about the presentation.

Well it has the Imax footage scenes, which obviously is much better conveyed in the the Higher 4X resolution

Though some would argue, we really need 8K resolution to fully express IMAX

And they'll probably put 4:2:0 on 8K,  So essentially we gotta wait for 12K to See Imax in its entirety..

Fingers crossed for at least 4K 4:4:4 home-content in the near future..

But it prob won't happen.. I don't see why they couldn't do it ,  given they're already selling these blurays for $20+ ..

They can't manufacture a 150GB disc these days to meet enough margin on $20 retail ?

You know what's worse? Next year, The Matrix will be TWENTY years old. That's older than a large portion of geekhack xD .

The CGI from the first movie still holds up.. because there's so little of it.

The CGI from the second and third movie don't hold up at all .. !

Well, look at that: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/dark-knight-10th-anniversary-imax-re-release-1202875906/.
It's going to be rereleased in IMAX. Going to try and get tickets.  :p

I keep forgetting how old it is! I was watching Blade the other day, which came out around the same time. Some of the graphics seemed similar, so I looked them up. Crazy how time flies. I remember my dad being excited for The Matrix and convincing my mom to let him take me to see it (rated R, and I wasn't of age at the time).
We all ended up going to see it--even my little sister!

I don't think I appreciated the matrix the first time I saw it..

But then a few years later, I was like.. Oh ok.. That makes sense.

NOTHING from the second and third movie holds up xD .

The first one was a masterpiece. I'd still watch it with great pleasure.

Things I remember about watching The Dark Knight in a theater:

- friends worked at the movie theater
- private screening
- alcohol may have been involved (of age drinking..)
- pretty sure I took a nap; can't confirm (I wasn't the only one..)

Honestly I think Dark Knight has better writing. But in terms of character growth, story progression, and overall tone I liked Begins better.

Actually, the Dark Knight was released 32 years ago:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_Returns
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Based on other photos I think that ass might be shopped...

Speaking of shopping gotta say the talk of good looking UHDs and yet barely any films I like have been released on the format. Once you go UHD it's hard to go back.
