You'll be able to change anything as long as you haven't paid. Once you've paid, the only thing you'd be able to change is whether you have a blocker, and colors. Deadline for that will be a bit before I submit the order to the factory.

Hey quick question, sorry if it's a silly one (this is my first kit). Does the PCB support PCB-mounted switches, or only plate mounts?
It supports both. It won't matter too much which you choose as the switches have a plate (thus not needing PCB mount to keep it level).

Congrats to you as well :D. Now the hard part. Picking a color and whether or not I want a blocker. I originally put down purple top black bottom, then I thought dark grey bottom, but I'm also tempted to just go with a like forest green or deep navy blue top instead.
The blocker looks so much better, I just can't decide if I could get a layout I'd like on it. On my tada68 I have fn and right ctrl mapped as fn keys and when they are both pressed together (which I can do with my thumb) it goes to a different layer. With the 1.25 bottom row like the 68 key, I think I could just abandon the right alt key and get the functionality I want, but the real problem is the default 7u layout on the universal picture is basically perfect as it's the same layout as my 60s are. But then I would have no choice but to lose the double fn key.
What is everyone else going with (and why)? What kinda layouts? (and what colors, etc :P)

Well assuming you want standard colors (silver/grey) then it's a preference of weight design. Myself, i prefer the one-piece weight.

Im going with the 68 key layout, and the associated fixed layout plate. Blocker, Brass plate, and gonna try for a "British Racing Green" inspired anno.
Gonna have to dig up a set of coniferous i thinks, but plum will look great with green any day of the week.

Material cost is the same for both, the bulk of cost comes from machining.

The anodizing color doesn't change pricing much. It's mostly machining and prep.

I'd personally say GMK stabilizers. Screw in stabs are just going to be more stable. ;D

Okay, so Navy Blue in Cerakote probably means H-127 "Kel-Tec Navy Blue". That looks about right to me.
For anyone else going with Cerakote, please note that Cerakote will send you color swatches on request (I have no idea how fast those will get mailed out, or if they can get them to you before xondat places the order).
That's the best choice for navy. Well, really the only choice. But it's not super deep navy, it's a light navy. I do believe you can mix certain colors but might be better to stick with proven colors.
I'd love to see someone go with blue titanium, bright nickel, or battleship gray.

Right on, that is fair. Next time GB deadline comes I'm definitely doing it from home. I was on my chromebook, connected to my mifi, on a highway in the passenger seat when I submitted my form lol. So, two people with AGs are going with grey anodizing.. either of those people want to swap to a non ag in dark gray since it's essentially the same thing? I'd really like to get a dark blue case.
There won't be any swapping as it isn't fair to the 23rd person that filled out the AG form :'(
Also maybe the numbered/split weight is why they want it.

Ohhh you mean like they do blends? I didn't know that. None of the premade colors really appealed to me. Either way since I don't really have any nice boards yet I figure I'll start with anodizing cause I know i like the look and feel of it. Cerakote is a very satiny finish and I'm not sure I'd like it in the colors I'm going for. If I already had a few nicer boards or I was looking for a more specific color then I'm sure cerakote would be an easy choice though. In theory it's stronger than anodizing i think.
I will have to research the blending colors thing though, it will definitely make cerakote a more appealing option for me in future GBs (or just getting it done to something myself).

Yup they can blend.. simple as mixing two stock colors together. I.e. add some black to make any color darker. Thinking about cerakoting my aek64 case since for some reason the finish on these cases has tons of blemishes

Waiting on a 6.25u wire in the mail, and then I'll be able to build it - should be Monday.

Just finished building the board. Ended up driving an hour to jae/jon_flynn for a stabilizer wire (and I'll ask him to share his thoughts). It's hard to stay unbiased, but I can say it's truly a joy to use. The lower plate just improves everything; it's much more comfortable than say X60 or a HHKB. I'm using an aluminum plate, which is a new feeling to me, but comparing to how X60 types, it's just more solid and feels more consistent. It's hard to describe and I can only really say you should wait and try it ;D

Well, I have to say I’m impressed. The 268 angle is so low it’s really comfy to use without a wrist rest. My daily drivers are a full alu (integrated plate) clueboard and a UK78.
The feel is very solid and well put together, and the case easily slips together before screwing it properly. Nice and solid action and easy to align with some clever alignment points as well.
Xondat also brought with him one of the brass plates and a top half without a blocker. It’s much nicer with the blocker there, I have to be honest. The brass plates are really nice as well and look great with the colour of the aluminium.

I don't have any Yuri or cerokate sample, but by judging the sample picture online, blue titanium, navy blue, hunter orange are the blue and orange color I would prefer. But if you are planning to do something like blue top and grey bot ( more conventional) titanium blue and cobalt would be something I love.

Im going with the 68 key layout, and the associated fixed layout plate. Blocker, Brass plate, and gonna try for a "British Racing Green" inspired anno.
Gonna have to dig up a set of coniferous i thinks, but plum will look great with green any day of the week.
What a British Racing Green -esque aluminum case with Coniferous might look like. The exact shade is Pantone 3435C, which appears to be pretty close to BR Green.

Currently I'm waiting on the final engravings files. We're waiting on this because some small adjustments were made (nothing notable), and because I forgot to ask for them sooner. I expect to get these Monday/Tuesday, and then everything will be ready.
I've changed a few aspects of the design; nothing major, but I think the difference they make is massive.
The main "problem" I had with the sample was that the overall look was very rounded/curvy. I identified the two things that'll change the look the most without changing anything major (as noted below).
- I've changed the inner corners from 2mm to 1mm. It'll result in better cap fitment aesthetics, and changes the overall look a tiny bit.
- The inner edge has also been changed. Previously it was a .5mm fillet, but I've now changed it to a .35mm chamfer.
Regarding plates, I've changed a few things with these too.
- Since no one chose the no blocker option, I updated the plate to only support layouts with the blocker. This means the plate will be cleaner.
- I've updated the stabilizer holes. Previously they were uniform, and had no correlation to the stabilizer orientation. Unfortunately, neither way around meant you could access the stabilizer wire. I've now updated the stabilizer cutouts to be 1) orientated to the stabilizer, and 2) so you can access the wire clip in point. They look a little different (not sure I'm too keen yet), but the function over form is worth it here.
- Made the N cutout uniform on both plates, previously one was .1mm too high. It's now in the centre of the bottom row, both vertically and horizontally.
- Added ISO for the universal plate, it's ugly, but it's the best that can be done.

PCB has also been updated with the following changes:
- Removed Alps support (switches wouldn't fit in 268 anyway).
- Removed all unnecessary holes, but kept the layouts without a blocker for the future.
- Removed LED backlighting.
- Added some holes to add a cable instead of attaching to the smaller USB holes (this is for a future project).
- Added more support around where stabilizers screw in. Previously it was just a mostly complete hole, but now it's a full circle.
Next update should be that the order has been submitted and in progress :-*

Yeah there is still in switch LEDs. Not sure it was ever mentioned but the PCB had SMDs for underglow, so that's whats been removed.

Got the PCBs an hour ago. First one looked great. Made a few revisions such as adding support to the areas around the stabilizer cutouts, removing some excessive holes etc.
Just missing the cases now. Still on target on the timeline which is nice, although CNY will delay the cases that don't arrive before.

I'll be getting these made at a previous place I've used for PC plates, and it shouldn't delay the 2nd batch. The downside to this is that 4 total could've shipped, but 3 of these have PC plates, so I'll have to hold onto them for now. They'll ship at the normal time (this 1st batch is "early").
ETA for the rest is after CNY, so I'm not expecting to hear anything new until afterwards. :thumb:

In short, the screw used for the stabilizers in the spacebar hits the bottom when joining. In the pursuit for thinness, I completely forgot about this, and it's fully my fault.
The only "problem" that this causes is that without the top and bottom screwed together, the pieces won't be flat together. When joining the top & bottom, thanks to the properties of aluminum, they join completely fine. There are no gaps, or warping etc. I believe it's about 0.7mm that clips.

nice, thats a great solution - pretty sure the gmk stab bases arent even threaded- so just need it fat enough to bite - but would need confirmation - dont have any not installed on hand.

You can still use them, no problems 4 months in. I only noticed with the production, didn’t experience it at all with the sample. Nothing internal changed so...
I’ve raised the internals a little and adddd a small cutout, best I could do meant a .3mm raise. :'(

Doubt it. I've pretty much done what I want to with this form factor.
Next will probably be 365/368 (3 Series [the architecture/build of this board] 65%/68 key, whatever I decide to name it), but I can't think of any significant changes for the 3 Series, so it's why I don't see anything to be done, therefore I'll be doing other form factors using 2 Series.
If 50 people organize between themselves and then approach me with the funding, then I can do a R2 :))

Annoyingly there was a miscommunication. I was told once I've confirmed the colors I had chosen were correct, that they'd be ordered in ready for the parts, however it seems they're waiting for the parts to arrive, and then they'll place the order.
I've asked for confirmation, but hopefully can get it moving :-\

I need to find a better solution to cleaning the threads, I ruined them on my top piece and don't want to chance it with the others

FWIW got my replacement bottom half today, looks fantastic. Xondat addressed and resolved my issue so I'm happy thus far, just have to clean the screw holes and build it!

Iirc washing up liquid and a tooth pick worked, might not be the most efficient but not likely to cause any damage to the part

Yeah that's my thoughts.
There aren't many places in the country (compared to what seems like hundreds in every state) so it's difficult to find somewhere experienced etc.
I could have them anodized for people that want that. I'll give a proper thought over the next few days and talk to everyone involved.

They're currently raw. You'd be buying with the knowledge waiting for cerakote may be your only option (or have it shipped to you raw).

I have no idea if you can get Xondat to go along with adding the fees in so you can break even on a slot swap. Good luck.
He should have refunded your initial payment. PayPal refunds the fees but I guess because we're out of the protection period fees get tacked on again

After the 6 month period, you can't refund the original transaction, therefore PayPal eat the fees. I believe there isn't a way to get them back. Since I didn't expect people to back out (and the buy to take the length it has), those fees should've never been needed to be refunded (if that makes sense...).
Reading this thread is making me anxious for when the 280 starts shipping..
Eh, there only four issues:
The length of time it's taken, which was out of my control due to me not having direct contact with the factory (I am now in direct contact);
the screw threads, which was a one off mistake by the factory;
the missing PCB hole leaving only one layout working; inexperience by Rozakiin and I for not spotting it, fixed.
and the cerakoting, which wasn't offered.

Right now all my focus is with the slot changing. Once that's calmed, and I've sent the 4 above, I'm going to contact the cerakoting slots and see what they want to do :)
I'll get the new olive sample with X60 R production & 280/220 V2 samples so probably best to keep an eye on either of those pages. I think about 2 weeks, just waiting for some brass parts to be finished.

I got 2 pcbs and plates to go with this board, I built them as brass with holy pandas and poly half plate with retool blacks. This was my first half plate experience and it was interesting.
My initial thoughts when first typing on this board is damn the feel and sound are great. The minimal height and space inside the case makes for a very solid feeling and a nice tight sounding board. Quite surprising for such a thin and sleek board. As there is no space inside due to the tight tolerances you cannot fit foam inside, however it sounds great without it and doesn't really need it.
My main complaint with it would be the use of slot head screws as they are very easy to slip out of and just an overall pita, however xondat has changed all his boards forward to not use slot head screws. Also the thread cleaning tho it worked out in the end did add extra work into having to build this board. As Xondat is now in closer communication with the factory and is aware of this possible issue I hope this doesn't happen again and cause him more work and stress as well as stress to the gb participants.
Overall I am quite happy with how this board turned out and I must say that half plate is kind of nice. I think however, I would prefer going full plate less or full poly as the inconsistency in feel and sound between alphas and mods is a little weird to me.
Now I wait for poly 5mm too see if that turns out as hype as I think it will be. :thumb:

I'm not necessarily concerned with you finishing what you started, but I am a bit concerned with your tendency for pumping out new projects without finishing up currently running ones. For these 268s, it appears that about half of them have shipped out and from what I can recall you've had them on hand since April. I understand that you've had QC and other issues communicating with your factory during that time period and delays are imminent in pretty much all GBs.
However, the thing that really bothers me is that in that time period when you have had the 268s on hand, you've found the time to launch 2 additional GBs (280/220 and polycarbonate 268.2) in addition to having the X60R currently in production as well. Now, I'm not too concerned about the ICs (XRF and T60) personally, but with the slow rate of QC, shipping, etc. you look like you have your hands pretty full for the foreseeable future. From the GB members perspective, it just seems like your attention is a bit divided, and a lot of the issues with QC and replacement parts could have been resolved a long time ago with proper attention given in a more timely manner as opposed to spending that time to launch new projects. Just my $0.02...

Me too. Without the screw issue, this would've been done. X60 R is basically ready to ship to me; I've been promised free replacement parts, and they're aware of all issues encountered (and promised to fix/never encounter again).

I mean this as positively as possible, but having had the 'dirty' parts since May-ish I believe this should not require much time. Can't check your discord, I was removed or it was disbanded.
Someone posted in discord the necessary tools to clean out the holes. I received mine 'dirty' and it only took 30min to re-tap all of the holes and clean out the gunk.
I can't help but feel you're just not motivated to get this problem resolved.
I'd be happy to provide you with part numbers for the die and tap set if you'd like.

EDIT: I received a few PMs about screw hole cleaning and I would like to provide some info without spamming the thread. While I can not say how effective the soap approach is, I can say that using a tap and die set worked very well for me before I relinquished my board

I want to ensure anyone who tries this that you are 100% capable of this task. I have a solid foundation of mechanical skills, but If you can turn a screwdriver you can clean the manufacturing debris out of your 268.
The left diagram is less relevant, but explains the types of taps (tools for actually MAKING threads) and for the 268 closed end tap is what is needed as we do not want to make the holes any deeper than they are from the manufacturer.
Now, the threads are already cut, and the supplied part number for the tap has the exact thread pitch (spacing) and diameter as the 268. So all you will need to do is assemble your tap and wrench, and CAREFULLY screw it into each of the holes.

The process i meant to describe isnt actually rethreading the holes. It's just a useful tool to precisely clean out the gunk. some of mine were nearly sealed.

No updates for thread cleaning? You've had them for several months now and atleast what I've seen there was a failed attempt and then two weeks ago you mentioned you would try on the B-stock parts. I'm not trying to be mean but it for me as a buyer you make it feel like this is very low on the list of priorities which feels rather insulting, given the amount of time you've had the parts. It would be nice to see this GB get wrapped up so it's off your mind when focusing on other projects.

What does that even mean? 'Real world' is the output of a company or some group of people/machines, yea personal stuff doesn't have much effect.
If you are a freelancer and are sick or have some other reason that keeps you from working efficiently there are no other people that will help out with the stuff you are responsible for.

I have a manufacturer I want to work with and should shortly get the samples. I think it'll be another couple of weeks but they've missed deadlines before in favor of improving quality.

I sent payment on the 14th and lead time is "10 days" - that'd place it around the 28th, but as always they take a little longer. It's a fairly simple design so I can't see it being problematic.

The screws that were included were trash bc they were flathead, but they were also too long for the case/threads. This was the case for all screws, even the screws that secured the plate. I went with hex screws that were about half the length.
Just an FYI for those of you that may run into problems later.

I'm waiting on new screws to test with the board I think I fixed. If it's good then should be able to run the tapping tool through the rest and finally be done. I don't want to screw it up and cause even more problems. I think the first ones will be done this month.

I think the new ones stick out a tiny bit (whole reason I went with slot was the smallness), but it's by something like 0.08 so not noticeable. Previous small batch was all delivered, just waiting on feedback on the cleaned parts. 1 person said "It's fantastic", which gives me hope, but just want to make sure the other 2 were good.
I have my board with the screw threads that were cleaned by Xondat. I went ahead and examined the thread cleaning job it at his request. Each screw worked as expected. There was a slight gritty feel on each screw I took out and put back in. The gritty feel doesn't really concern me, it just seems like there may be a tiny amount of debris left over but not enough to cause any issues.

hey guys, does anyone can flashing the pcb x268 v2 with UK Layout? Im not in this GB but i joined the LZ cls ms 65 with pcb from x268 v2 and using qmk firmware. I'm manually keymap from qmk config online and compile it. Then download the firmware and flashing it by using QMK Toolbox. However, with various times flashing, the esc key does not replacing by the " ~`" and the BACKSPACE 2u still regconized by Slash and Dash icon.
Personally no idea but I've pinged Rozakiin (PCB designer).

Received the 4 cerakoted boards.
Unfortunately the yellow and beige were damaged in shipping, so they're being sent back to be fixed.
The blue is good to go, can have that sent out by next Friday. Waiting for shipping to be paid on the pink.
