Double shot replacements ROUND THREE!
« on: Wed, 15 December 2010, 10:24:31 »
Double shot replacements for Cherry MX (Filco/Ducky/Cherry).

Please visit the new thread to vote for kits and
give quantities of how much you would like to order.

The following is obsolete:

Color scheme similar or equal to Round 1.
Everything centered, no arrows, nor symbols etc.[1]

Optional extra sets for
UK, NL, AT/DE/SE, FR, Colemak, Dvorak and other special layouts.

If you like a key to be added or removed,
just state in post which and where.

Set up a poll if you like some extra symbols included.[2]

Prices are not fixed.
These are maximum prices for 1 of 50 sets (Standard kit) and
1 of 25 sets (all other kits), excluding shipping.
You don't need to order a Standard kit along your
local/alternate-layout kit. Each kit will sell separately.

1. Standard kit   @ $50
 • 104 US-layout in black/grey-color-scheme with white labels,
 • cursor-keys with no arrows; Up, Down, Left, Right instead!
 • Numpad 0-9: no arrows, no text, just numbers only (in grey)
 • Control and Caps Lock (both, stepped and normal)
 • 1 1/4-keys: 2xAlt, 2xSuper, 2xControl, Meta
 • GeekHack keys in both colors
 • to please those analphabetics: 4 arrow keys are included.

2. UK kit       @ $7

3. AT/DE/SE kit @ $14

4. FR kit       @ $13

5. NL kit       @ $12

6. Colemak kit  @ $5

7. Dvorak kit   @ $8

8. Modifier kit        @ $18
 • Rub Out and Symbol (stepped and unstepped version)
 • 2xHyper,  Meta,   Compose,  Function, 2xCommand, 2xOption (1 1/4 sized)
 • Backspace, Line (at Tab or |\-position)
 • Spacebar in black,
 • additional modifier keys could be added but might raise the price a bit.

(maybe this will split up into 2 modifier sets)
9. Numeric kit         @ $10
 • including 0-9 with additional single-sized 0 and vertical = (for number-block, black)
 • & % ^ = ( ) @ $ \ |  |\ (for top rows, black)
 •  [ ] {   }  :  \ | |\  - + (QWERTY-row, black)
 • = - + (ASDFG-row, black)
 •  |\  = (ZXCVBN-row, black)
 • plus some other keys (all in black)

10. Function kit        @ $10
 • F13-F24 (matching colors),
 • F1-F4, F9-F12 (in black)
 • Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, Help, Reset (in black)
 • plus some other keys (all in black)

I will post layout-schemes for other kits later.

Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

--------------
[1] If you want off-center labels, or a different color (e.g. pink),
please refer to Round TWO!

[2] Titles for polls should follow the scheme:
Double shot replacements ROUND THREE: Awesome and Trollface keys
Double shot replacements ROUND THREE: XX-layout
Double shot replacements ROUND THREE: Abcdef-layout

These are all keys to be added to the 104-US-stadard layout. I will post graphics for those sets as soon as possible, so everyone interested can make sugestions or corrections if I got something wrong.

Other national layouts could be made as well, depending which letters SP has in stock.

It will be a full 104-key set plus Geek Hack, plus Caps and Control in both versions.

I don't like arrows. But if the majority likes arrows, it will be arrows and up, down, left, right will become an extra.

I also like the text in all-caps. Maybe I set up a poll on that later.

At 104 keys, I assume it must include those.

I'd like to echo the lack of arrows question from above. And when you say "please refer to round 2" for differently colored or off centered font, what do you mean? Thanks!

*arrow question answered, please ignore that one*

If I don't fix at least something, it will end in the same chaos as round 2. Leaving everything open for discussion, will never lead to an actual set of keycaps.

I do not want to take over round 2. The only outcome of round 2 so far is: it will have off-center, if doable slanted, labeling in a (at least to me) wired color scheme.

On the other hand, I know that there are lots of people who missed round 1 or just want a national or alternate layout.

That's the idea.

You'd better move textual arrows into the Modifier or other set.
The general direction is right - less options, less chaos.

So I assume they will look like this?  Not the layout, but I mean the keys and stuff.

Keys yes, stuff not.

And I'm not getting the Arrow key thing.  Or Windows Key hate.

It's quite nice.

Windows key will be included if the majority wants it. Same for arrows. If not, it is also possible to add it as an extra.

I will collect those whishes and set up polls on these.

ps: What about a key labeled WINDOWS for a change?

Could you please be more specific on these?

Text-only is doable.

Please notice that ⌘ or the apple-logo are most likely not available.

Using text, "Command" would work as the extra modifier keys for mac users.
Since "Control" is spelled out, and works with all key sets, "Command" would match and is in text.

To be serious:
I don't want to steal Round 2 away from you. I just felt that Round 2 will not be what I want or need. The idea is to do some extra keys, plus some national layouts. It will not be the same as Round 1, because all labels will be centered and maybe in all-caps.

So, SE is SE/FI?
Full 105-key ISO SE/FI would add up to?

Also, how much one off very special layouts are? Like:
Show Image

My plan is to do DE and SE layout in one set, because they do not differ that much.

(Most of that blue stuff on both layouts will not appear on my set.)

Finnish layout looks quite different, if you really want all those blue labels as well. The problem is, that those extra letters on the A-Z-keys will spoil the simple centered layout (for that reason there will be no EUR-sign on European layouts).

It is doable, but be aware that there is only one text-color available, as SP can't do tripple shot key caps!

Also you need some others to order a Finnish set, to get a reasonable price.

Acctualy that's just my dream, might have to get it lasered some time...

Ah, so SE stands for Sweden, which is same layout as Finnish one. I'm just more used with SW... I'm happy with it if it's include num-row and other special character buttons too...

Apart from € on E and µ, all blue labels are included? Which is my main concern.

So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

I might like it more if there was an option for black spacebar and black F1-F12 keys.

Edit: Black spacebar is already an option. Just the F1-F4 & F8-F12 then.

I'd be in for a full set, plus a modifier, number, and function kit.

7 to 0 [,{,},] are doable if needed. 2 to 5 will be different between SE and DE layout. Might get a little more expansive, will enquire on that later.

ps: ISO country codes.

I prefer perfection, there is minute differences, also with a few modifications mainly two letter-keys and two other keys I think danish is same as SW/FI...
Not that I'm interst in those...

Might order two sets if they are up to spec.

PS: Just to get in semantics, for Swedish sv or swe is used... Nothing can't ever be simple...

So I suppose you will ship from Germany after you'll get the package from Signature? Asking because of shipping costs later

There are F13-F24 in the Function key set. If nobody wants those, I will add all black F1-F12. But mayby it is possible to add black F1 to F12 anyway. I will keep that in mind....

I definitely want the function key set. But I have a POS keyboard, so I have that row of keys.

I might be the only one, though...

7bit,

how compatible are these kits and extras with the MO1 keyset ?

You mentioned the color scheme is the same exact; but what about the fonts is it the same ? The reason i ask is because maybe those of us from Mo1 may be interested in the kits; so hopefully the look would be consistent.

And what exactly is in these 2 kits

6. Colemak kit @ $5

7. Dvorak kit @ $8

If there is no consensus if the colors should be darker or lighter, or if the majority agrees to have the same colors again, it will be compatible to Round 1. The difference is that this time all labels are centered. It will be the same font, because
- signature has nothing else in stock (other font would be very costly)
- I like it that way;-)

It will also be the same profile. I thought about SA-profile, but they told me they can only do row 3 for Cherry switches in SA-profile.

So, if you just want the extras without the standard kit: be welcome!

Colemak and Dvorak kits contain all the additional caps needed to have these layouts, including keys with the nubs usually at F and J.

I will post all those layouts one after the other.

Now comes the tricky part:

That point is not yet decided. I will need someone in the US to do the key collation job. I don't think it's a good idea to ship everything half around the planet, and then ship most of the parcels back.

Also, a big parcel will cost import duty, so I not even think it will pay out for shipping within the EU.

So shipping will be most likely the same as in Round 1.

Could you please be more specific on these?

Text-only is doable.

Please notice that ⌘ or the apple-logo are most likely not available.

SP can create these, but it will cost a lot extra $$$ I'm afraid.
ideally:

Alt -> Command/Cmd (x2)
Win -> Option/Opt (x2)
Contextual Menu -> blank (x1)

Also, independent of macos, CapsLock -> Control would be nice

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

So I skimmed this thread and couldn't find any mention about the Sprues. Will you get Signature Plastics to cast these new keys so that they have the Sprue on the back, instead of the front like last time?
