Title: Windows 10 keeps trying to install 22H2
Post by: phinix on Mon, 28 August 2023, 16:09:24
My Windows 10 keeps trying to install 22H2 and cannot finish it.
Everytime WIndows Updates says that it has been downloaded and needs restart, after it boots up again it starts download part again.

I tried different things I found on internet, like reseting updates etc, but it doesn't help.

Is there a way to stop that particular update - like cancel 22H2 patch?
Update history only shows that it was been downloaded and nothing can be done, like cancel, or uninstall.

There should be an "optional" cumulative update that includes 22h2, try that, it may get you around the problem.

The other option is uninstall  any other cumulative or major update and let that reinstall then allow 22h2 again.

This why you gotta keep images of your WORKING build.

Looks like I cannot get that update separately as a offline file, only via Windows Updates :(
I don't know, it stuck in the middle of download and install process, cannot complete it, cannot revert it...

Or...
It's a great time to do a fresh install and ditch all the garbage.

This is fresh install... :(
I've reinstalled it few days ago, now looks like gonna have to do it again...

Is there really no way to interrupt and stop those updates, reset them?

There are unofficial gaming builds of windows that don't have the security flaw mitigations (which reduce processor speeds), and removes telemetry.

It might not be safe to put your credit card number into, but if you vlan it, it should be fine for gaming.

Doing "tweaks" on your own to the microsoft build takes a LONG time, and half the stuff doesn't work right or isn't well documented.  So, you might save yourself the trouble, and either  take what microsoft serves, or go with unofficial builds.

Set your connection to data limited bandwidth or whatever they call it (or take it offline), uninstall all updates then let it reinstall.
Is there a reason your iso so old that it needs 22h2?* Go download the latest install disk from MS.

*Personally I keep an 21h1 because it was the last one before they made it a hassle to bypass the account creation but sometimes it's just easier (or necessary) to use the latest. Not you can still bypass it it's just more of a hassle.

OK, I found offline installation file for Windows updates with 22h2. Weird, but it simply looked same as standard windows updates.
So it took 2 hours to update, dont know why so long, when downloading and installing 4GB 22h2 update took 20 minutes before, just couldnt ever complete it with reboot.

Anyway, also downloaded an Windows 10 image with 22h2 already on board, so next time I'm going to reinstall windows, I'm gonna use that image.
