New mobo, cpu and ssd for my gaming pc. Time to for little upgrade after 3 years.

(Attachment Link)

Combining a Z390 with a i3 smh 4/4 Threads in 2020 already hit its limit hard in most recent titles, My friend couldn't even talk in discord while playing the Call of duty BR on his 4 core 4 Thread i5 6600k overclocked 4.5ghz. Should have gone with Ryzen 3600x and a B350 motherboard or something more future proof.

I don't see a problem, I don't need anything higher than that for my 4K gaming. Getting 45-60fps on all my games, so no point for anything higher.
I tested it with i9 - only 3-5fps more in Witcher 3, so really no point.

Yeah I don't see an issue with it either, those new i3s are speedy lil chips

With that, "4/4 Threads in 2020" logic you'd think it would be ideal to build an old dual Xeon PC on the cheap for high core count then 🧐

People are actually building old Xeon 8/12 core gaming PC's with the X99 platform and overclock them great value for gaming, so yeah my logic is ideal indeed :p.

But yeah like i said Battlefield and Call of duty already choke 4 core 4 thread CPU. Even my I7 6700k 4 core 8 threads gets 90-100% CPU usage in those games while overclocked to 4.5 GHZ. But yeah if you play optimized games in 4K then CPU won't play a big role on 4K and its basically mostly GPU doing all the work then i guess it was right to save money.

You never specified how old, just more cores so with your more core logic you could just save lots of cash and go with some Jurassic server CPUs :))
X99 is what, similar age to Haswell refresh which is what I'm still using and is fine.

Got something a little different in today. A SZ660SMK PCB, a matching FR-4 plate, & a batch of SMK clicky switches (monterey blues)! Although go figure I sold my 660M a couple weeks ago, so I gotta search up a case for this yet. If anyone has one of those alum. 660M cases, a stock plastic 660M/C case, or a broken 660M with the case still in good shape that they want to get rid of shoot me a PM please!

I made sure to buzz all my hair when I knew it would be a while before anyone would see me. There will probably be enough time to do at least another round, from the looks of it.

hehe.  i was needing a haircut right before the great plague began, so now my hair is super long.  i'm gonna be needing that powerdrive.  never did this before, so we'll see how it goes.

lul i just used them to cut my hair and feel great now.  it took some time because i had no clue, but it was pretty foolproof with the blade guides.  you just start with the largest guides, and decrease the size gradually and it works out.

now i feel like one of those suspiciously happy models in the shampoo commercials where they wave their head around, except without the long hair.

these clippers were only $30.  totally worth trying if your hair is all crazy now.

Got few things so far this morning... all being late birthday presents from my wife.

As our TP4 recommended, an Olfa knife! :D

243140-0

Next, I'm building retro computer to play some good old DOS games, needed few cable adapters for mouse and model M keyboard.
Fargo decided to add himself to my photos...

243142-1

Switch puller, Rama Works

243148-2

Last items - when I was a kid, apart from playing "bottle caps", collecting beer cans, I also built airplane models.
These are the ones I did back in the days, about 30 years ago!
Look at the state of these - like new! Still, over 30 years old!

Nope, turns out it's just the damn Canon keyboard I ordered. No free shop vac.
