Design Inspiration
There were two key inspirations for the Raindrop design.
The first inspiration was the aesthetics of a rainy day, this inspired the design of the board

Hi, yes this was a communication error with pricing, the entire cost of the brass plate was added to the base cost of the aluminium plate. It should have just been the difference in price between the aluminium and brass. This has been rectified.
We have had alot of positive feedback about the brass color matched annodising.
The GB is not a limited run.

there were a few issues noted during the prototype build stream that I think definitely warranted a second prototype, however you have gone ahead with the GB. Any reason to not go with a second prototype here to finalize the design?

Hi there,
The issue on the stream was identified post stream to actually be due to a cable short that was over drawing power from the USB port. Beyond this, the USB port was deemed to require a recess to accomodate for USB cables with a very short male head, this does not require an additional prototype to verify. However, final samples will be obtained from the factory as per normal, acting as a final prototype before proceeding with the final approval, this has been allowed for in the GB timeline :)

Welp this is gonna be the 3rd board i've ordered that I won't have caps for now. All these awesome boards keep coming out and I know it's easier to get the caps later than to try and get the board. This is an unlimited buy open the entire month of July right?

I worry the design etching will get scuffed since I live in a country where scuffing things is very common & I'm not the biggest fan of the Han characters. (If not, I can live with that comprise). It's interesting, maybe reserved when I have a bit more money lol

Hi 😀 thanks for the kind feedback. No we don't offer the Case without the design on the bottom sorry. As for scuffing, the rubber feet do offset the keyboard from the desk by about 1mm, not sure if this helps. Any other questions please feel free to ask.

A few people have been asking about the difference between the Speed and Control versions of the desk mat. The one on the left is the Speed edition, the one on the right is the control edition. I hope this clears it up 😄

Good question, there is a capacitor behind the USB housing that connects ground to the USB-C shield, there are also large ground planes on both sides of the PCB. The only thing I would say that could still give you ESD is if your are using a cheap USBC cable with no dedicated shield, alot of custom cables are built this way too.

I went to order and was expecting to select a different plate for the arrow key layout because that's part of my attraction here, but it seems like there is not different plate options on the site. I am not quite understanding how the arrow key layout can be supported on the same plate since all the switches on the shift row will be moved .25u to the left. Is the shift row plate holes just extra-wide? Does not appear that way from pictures. Can you confirm if/how the same plate supports arrow/standard layouts?

Hi, the prototype plate only supported the arrow key layout. From the final design poll, there was high demand to offer multiple layouts on the one PCB&Plate. So yes you're right, the plate has holes to accommodate for several layouts, there is no need for you specify which layout you want 😄 I hope this clears it up, feel free to ask into have any more questions.

I've had several requests for the plate file. Originally I wasn't going to release this until after the GB was complete, however I realise that there can be large lead times for custom POM/other material plates and I want you guys to have them ready for when the case arrives :D So, I won't be releasing it publicly until the GB is over, however message me on discord or email and I will happily provide you with the file.

Update from the case manufacturer: Final production samples are due to be completed early August
Update from PCB manufacturer: First 30 PCBs will be complete in approx. 2 weeks.

Update: Minor road bump but nothing too major. We recently had 10 cases made to verify the quality of the factories work across multiple cases. We have received the cases yesterday and the quality is good. However, between the first prototype and these 10 cases there were minor improvements made. The factory has made these 10 cases with the old original prototype files and not the new files that we supplied them with. They are now working to remake these 10 cases with the new files. This will delay the overall time frame by 15 to 20 days. Apologies for this delay, it was completely out of our hands. Thanks again to everyone for the support on this project, I will keep you up to date on the progress with these 10 cases.

Hi! Yes, we are getting close, as with the rest of the community, we have encountered several COVID related delays. Our cases have been produced, we are now just waiting for the final PCBs and then we are ready to ship.
