Good and bad news. I've decided to go back to the dark modifier color for the spacebars, it doesn't look as good having such a tiny break of the color of the bottom row with spacebars that small. Bad news, the 2.75u keys from the regular Modifier packs are Row4 profile, and you need 2x Row3. Do you know of any other boards that have 2x2.75u in the bottom row to warrant the addition of a secondary one to the kit? Since I'm kicking off half the spacebars with the change back to the dark color I can add a few keys, such as the 3u for Filco Minila as requested earlier.

Essentially what I need are extra 2.75u's - as long as they don't say SHIFT on it its all okay - additional modifiers could be blank or maybe you pack a 2.75u in another mod pack...?

You do realize the importance of row profile don't you? Because technically, you would have two 2.75u's as it stands, just that one is Row4 and the other is Row3.

I'll investigate tonight what other boards use two 2.75u's as space bars or similar.

Only other addition for me would be a 1.25u row 2 tab for JD45 / JD40 keyboards. I haven't seen any sculptured sets with one of those yet, so maybe it would be worth considering looking at typical JD40/45 layouts.

Either way I will definitely be in this when it goes up for sale.

The LEA key is 1.25, R3 profile. JD40/JD45 is 2-3-4-3 with this set, and all their keys in R2 are 1u. I think you confused row number and row profile.

Yeah I get that but I flip them anyway and there is essentially no better alternative unless you want to produce 2.75u for row4 which is probably very rare. I think someone mentioned there is a split space keyboard thats fairly common that has 2x2.75u on row4 but i cant remember which one. either way since nobody else complains I'm perfectly happy if I can get two row3 or two row4 or one row3 and one row4 as long as it fits the space... otherwise it would be silly for me to buy that set... but I really like it :)

btw. there were some GBs that added a modifier pack of blanks - hence there was a modifier pack with a blank 2.75u additional to the existing blank 2.75u or not shift labeled shift... those are the best GBs :P

In that case you are covered then, Row4 PUSH from Git and Row3 blank from API.

does the API Kit have 3U Spacebars? (aka. Filco MINILA support?)

It does not at the moment. Two more 1u Row4 keys would also be needed to cover the 1u shift keys of that row

As mentioned before, spacebars for Assembly and API kits have been reverted to modifier color. I find it to fit those keyboards better than alphas color due to the short size and looking more like an interruption. Also quite a few keys less in the set that way.

I really like that git pack, for sure. Now, I don't want to **** in anyone's cereal, but did anyone get permission from Software Freedom Conservancy to use the logo?

Applicable passage from their trademark documentation:

Quote
2.5 Use of the Marks in merchandising
You may not create and/or sell merchandise bearing any of the Marks without Conservancy's express written permission. If you are interested in using creating and/or selling merchandise bearing any of the the Marks, please send proofs of your designs to us at TRADEMARK@SFCONSERVANCY.ORG.

I realize this keyset is a loose interpretation of the term "merchandise", but I'd suggest erring on the side of caution here. Granted, ~60 keys bearing the git logo might not seem like a big deal, but we're not talking about Pepsico or some faceless corporation. SFC are trying to fight the good fight. I'm sure they would be flattered, and who knows, might even sponsor the keyset and get it some extra pub.

If you add a nordic pack with ÖÄÜß (DE) I'm willing to pay additional for that for sure!
Example:

... and with this I might stretch my luck but - separate arrow key pack :D

The international/Norde kit is on the list and usually costs ~45$ for SA profiled keycaps on Massdrop.
So don't worry, you will get your kit and wou will pay for it.

Sorry but that's not going to happen. I would either have to include two full Planck kits for either alpha color, or take away your choice. Also, it would eliminate support for Preonic.

International & UK done, added key sizes were important to the images, some other minor tweaks. Also reverted the names for the specialties kits, the old ones were fun but this is clearer for customers, which is more important as the kit names don't add anything to the actual design.

This set is now 99% done designing, search for venue is highest priority now for me. Also gonna investigate the GIT logo situation, will send an E-Mail  to them tomorrow.

Again, high resolution kit images updated in first post.

Regarding the Planck spacebar (or button), it is more of functionality/semantic as space considered as character thus the color usually match the alphas.

I would really like to see this but this could easily result in neither international kit reaching MOQ. Most "popular" SA profile GBs already have a hard time reaching MOQ for their single International kit. If MOQ wasn't an issue with international kits every time, I'd love to see both colors as  well.

AltGr added to International kit, might as well since it's included in the UK one. 1u Minus (-) key added to numpad above the + on the side. Planck kit now offers the different colorways for spacebars, in return I removed 2 keys in the two top rows that weren't really needed actually. Kit's have been updated in the first post accordingly.

I will now make new previews for many different keyboards.

Oh, and Planck/40s/Tsangan&Whitefox are now back to unique names (Assembly/40bit and SDK) with descriptions added below so it's clear what they are for.

Right, what would be missing for that? DEL/END/PAGE_DOWN as R1 right? Not sure where to add it tho, I guess it would fit in best with the TKL set.

New changes: While creating the new previews for 40% boards such as the MiniVan, I noticed that the distribution of colors was off in the 40bit set. I needed to change that after having it split from the Planck. Also, another 1u R4 key has been added to allow for the MiniVan arrow layout.

And now, plenty of previews fresh outta Photoshop. Enjoy!

Looks awesome! Voted and can't wait. :)

I'm guessing there is no 1.75u shift in the base Oblivion kit? So SDK kit is needed for a 1.75u shift? Planning for a RS78 and this could be the set I go for.

Like other users I would love this kit even more if there were 1.75u Shift in the mods. ;)

Hi

Any change of an ISO enter key in monochrome?

I know this might be a pain to work into the set :(

Thanks

I'm currently trying to get a quote from SP as the set stand right now. I think adding Monochrome ISO-Enter/Shift/AltGr to both International and UK would be an option. Git equivalents I would not add, they share the same colors with Oblivion so only the text would be not in line with the theme, but not too terrible IMO. Certainly better than raising the price of those kits even further.

Other changes I'm spending my nights sleeping on: Add 1u Row 4 and 3u Row 3 to 40bit to support Minila and adding 3x 1u Row 1 keys for DEL/END/PAGE_DOWN to either TKL or Numpad to support 1800. It's really tough making these calls as it raises price, and after every addition I make, another 2 are mentioned by people. I need to ring the bell at some point and close the kits down.

Also, looking at MassDrop poll, Hagoromo has twice the votes of Quarry. With MOQ being the main enemy of International and Dvorak&Colemak kits, I think it would be best to have those be in the colorway most voted for after all.

The lack of OSX keycaps in this set is extremely disturbing, especially for a set that spins off from programming

Tho, the set still looks good, there are some lovely themed/made-up modifiers, I guess in the latest form, the set is more aimed at a more colourful/careless crowd

I've started considering whether I can handle it, I probably can't

Maybe just ask them how much more expensive it is to just get the color + row without label. Might save a lot of money + at least the correct row is avail.

I agree w/ having those child sets match the most popular colorway, but I would also love to have both Quarry and Hagoromo as options for the alphas kits. Seems to be a trend in some of the more recent sets to offer multiple options.

Also, looking at MassDrop poll, Hagoromo has twice the votes of Quarry. With MOQ being the main enemy of International and Dvorak&Colemak kits, I think it would be best to have those be in the colorway most voted for after all.

I agree w/ having those child sets match the most popular colorway, but I would also love to have both Quarry and Hagoromo as options for the alphas kits. Seems to be a trend in some of the more recent sets to offer multiple options.

Only International and Dvorak&Colemak need to be decided what color it will be. The other kits are intended to offer both.

Not instead, but it could be done once SA has wrapped up. I have no intentions to shelf the design at that point, but I will focus my efforts on SA now.

------------------------------------------

I'll now place a little mile marker right here with this post. The design is done for now, I have collected a few points I'd like to address in the future, but nothing that would be game changing at this stage. I will patiently watch the MassDrop poll climb and cross my fingers for a spot in the queue to open up for this set. Don't expect this to be decided soon, we will need to be very patient for this to happen. During this time I will make efforts to increase word of mouth by improving the presentation of the set, such as setting up a dedicated project page instead of focusing on the first post of this thread as I have done so far. So the progress will seem much slower from this point on as I will be pushing out updates and changes much less frequently as I have since the sets inception on October 1st. This does of course not mean I am absent from the forums! My activity will remain.

It is also time that I give proper credit where it is due instead of having it spread across the last four pages of this thread:
Big thanks to Paolo Borelli, the creator of the Oblivion theme, to Evangs for helping me figuring out the 40bit set and enduring my chats with him, to Zambumon and MiTo who's sets I have used as reference to create the other compatibility kits, to /u/thinman who allowed me to extract the shading from his renders, to jchan94 for being such a kind person, to T0mb3ry for his input and last but not least everyone else in this thread for their suggestions, requests, votes and of course compliments! I hope I have not forgotten anyone!

Very excited for this set. Definitely a very classy work set with just enough flair to make it stand out.  :thumb:
