Check this out from a recent Microsoft Ad . . . .
« on: Mon, 26 January 2015, 07:30:22 »
As my first post [after a quick introduction post] thought I'd share what eventually brought me to this site - and possibly a whole new tech obsession.

I spend a fair amount of my day in front of a computer - so I love seeing how other people have their work spaces set up - heck I even like looking at how they set up manufacturing or fulfillment facilities - anything that creates a vibe of productivity I like - I am sort of a productivity voyeur . . . .

So when I saw this in a MS commercial it caught my attention . . . .

I am including the Youtube url below - just in case anyone wants to check out the entire video - save you the time of having to search for it.  Honestly I couldn't tell you what it is advertising - between the computer set ups and all the Titanfall game graphics I was so distracted I missed whatever the pitch actually was . . . .

This actually ran as a TV commercial as well - where I actually saw it first . . . .

There's been some other chair-mounted keyboards. I can't find the thread but I'm pretty sure Input Nirvana had a split Kinesis mounted into a chair.

There's also a couple threads I found with the same idea:

Yea, I saw that, too.  Looks like an old Kinesis Evolution, which is no longer in production.

Yep, I saw that same ad and messaged Input Nirvana about it, as well. He confirms it is a Kinesis Evolution.

I saw it first when I was watching an Australian Open tennis match. The ad is for "Microsoft Cloud." :)

Yeah, we all got a kick out of that video at Kinesis a few weeks back. Our old discontinued Evolution keyboard. We used cherry brown key switches and it was fully programmable like our Contoured keyboards are. The downside was it was incredibly expensive to manufacturer (I think the chair mounted version with dual touchpads was around $700 or so!).

This is not as easy to use as it seems.. due to the mouse issue..

You'd also have to have a very perfect fit for the arms to rest comfortably and consistently in the right position.

And a huge problem is if you move forward and back on your seat.. the fit completely changes including the ideal wrist angle..

So.. all n' all..  not so great..

A few years ago I was yapping with Webwit (am I allowed to say His name?) and we agreed Kinesis "almost got it right" with the Evolution, on so many levels. It was a formative ergo step with more than it's share of positives...BIG positives...split keyboard, mech switches!, integrated pointing device, DUAL integrated pointing device option, table-tray-chair mounting options (albeit 3 different models), the chair mounting is the same equipment as the Datahand chair mounting (doesn't get better than that), as well as the various programming features. Almost NAILED IT! Damn staggered rows of keys ruined it...shoulda listened to me! But overall kudos to Kinesis on that...of course it was during the "Ergo Rage" of the heady mid-90's, when ergo was in, disco was out, and we thought the tech boom couldn't bust.

Those pop up on eBay from time to time, a number of Geekers have them, a must for any collector, eh Hoggy, Ricercar, Webwit...?
