is there any plan for a GB soon? this looks awesome.

Hi. Thanks for your interest. :)

The group buy will start moving forward after Susuwatari ships. Here's the latest update from Drop:
Quote
May 7 2020 update:
Latest set of samples are here and have been measured and reviewed.  A few of the legends are still off by just a smidgeon.  We've got some feedback for changes to a handful of caps but the majority of the keycaps are going into production.  Latest update/estimate is that they'll all be done by June 5th.  As usual, more updates to follow as we keep moving through this process.  I'll try to get some photos to post as well.

Meanwhile, I have made small changes to some kits, mainly adding keys to the Ergo kit and Buttons, which I will post this week.

Not a kit change per se, but the Colevrak-DH++ kit can be renamed to just Colevrak+.

That's become the de facto name for it.
Ortho. Always.

Sorry. I'll try to include them somewhere else. It doesn't make sense in this pack.

Thank you for adding 1.5u R5 keys! I am definitely in on this kit when it goes to GB.
I'll be picking up Alphas, Ergo, Gamer Pad and/or Buttons for sure and maybe Colevrak and Mini Barsx2 for convex 2u spaces. Tempted to get Power Pack as well.

Why?  Is it due to multiple delay of that particular purchase?  The people who purchased the Susuwatari set, are they getting their order plus the coupon or the whole order got canceled?  I can't tell by just reading that post.

It's probably a little too fiddly to work, but a novelty with a simplified single-color version of the controller illustration from the Super Famicom box could be neat:

I can address this right away: unfortunately, any trademark logos and symbols are off the table.

The SNES typeface, however, should be fine:

Awesome looking set. A lot to love here already but I have a couple of points/questions:
  • R3 "1.75u "Fn" key in the extras - could this not be "Function"? I always thinking Fn looks silly on such a large keycap, draws the eye in a bad way.
  • Spacebars - would be good to confirm which sizes are convex. Unless they all are :)
  • Spacebars - what profile will be used? AFAIK MT3 has both R4 and R5 spacebars, at least /dev/tty did.

  • Hmm. You may be confusing bottom row profile with spacebar profile. This set has R5 (flat) bottom row, and there is only one spacebar profile.

There were very definitely two spacebar profiles in R1/R2 /dev/tty, and it appears in R3's kits as well - see here: https://cdn.matt3o.com/uploads/2020/01/base-kit.png from https://matt3o.com/getting-ready-for-dev-tty2/

Okay, I see what you mean.

The samples I was sent only had an angled "in between" spacebar, ie. not as steep as R4, but not flat.

Will look into it.

Of course they might have just not made new ABS molds for R5 - only stating that it's been done before in PBT.

I only got the PBT samples (for modelling). I completely missed the fact that there was two spacebar profiles in dev/tty. Thanks @Joshimitsu for pointing that out.

I think the angled spacebar is a good profile, similar to Topre Hi-Pro:

It's a fairly common practice to run GMK spacebars upside down so the thumb hits a flat face rather than a prominent edge.  What do the majority of MT3 users prefer: R5 flat, R4 normal, or R4 upside down?

Yeah, for me:

R5 flat = R4 normal > R4 upside down

It's worth mentioning that MT3 spacebars have very rounded edges.

Yeah I prefer "FUNCTION" over "FN" for that key because it's 1.75u (quite wide). For example, 1.5u control keys are often "CONTROL" rather than "CTRL" - I also prefer this. I think "FN" on a 1.75u wide key looks a bit daft ;D

I only got the PBT samples (for modelling). I completely missed the fact that there was two spacebar profiles in dev/tty. Thanks @Joshimitsu for pointing that out.

No problem :thumb:

On the whole R4 vs. R5 question - my opinion would be that the spacebar should probably match the profile of the bottom row. However, owning /dev/tty myself I do prefer the flat (R5) bottom row. I'm not sure how well a flat R5 spacebar would go with a sculpted R4 bottom row, probably better to have it R4 and just let people flip it where required.

Just got my Susuwatari.

I think it's safe to say that SNES will do just fine in MT3  :thumb:

Yeah! Susuwatari looks really good, and surpassed my expectations in many ways. Actual colour versus the renders not being one of them... ;)

We're starting the colour matching process. I asked @matt3o for some tips, because it seems like a real challenge.

I will take the necessary steps to get the colours sorted out before the pre-order starts, to avoid any delays on delivery...

I was excited for this, but the R5 bottom row kind of kills it for me. Sure, flat keys are great when you use you thumbs on them, but when you have to press them with your pinkys, the R5 angle is absolutley more slippery than the R4 one. I wish something would run that would just offer the best of both worlds. Since I'm looking for something I can use in games where I'll need to hold Ctrl down a lot, the R5 bottom row is just not going to cut it for me.

The reason for the R5 bottom row (flat, similar to Topre HiPro) is not only the ergonomic advantage when using the thumbs, but because R4 is very aggressive at around -13 deg. Compared to -7 deg for SA.

Having tried both R4 and R5, I feel like R5 is more conformable in general. Or to put it another way, R5 is less uncomfortable for the pinky than R4 is for the thumb.

That being said, consider that the complete R5 molds don't exist yet for MT3 doubleshot. Right now we are more focused on colour matching.

Here's an update on MT3 SNES:

As you may be aware, MT3 Susuwatari suffered a bit from inaccurate colours (compared to the renders). To make a long story short, merely sending some colour codes to Drop's supplier is not sufficient.

The process we're trying out is to order various plastic chips, make a selection, send them to Drop's supplier and finally receive some actual keycap samples. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Here's hoping Drop gets it right.
