make poker2 like pokerX arrows?
« on: Tue, 27 May 2014, 12:55:13 »
So I've had a poker2 for awhile, and just recently got a pokerX

I really like how on the Poker X i can turn the lower right win, alt, ctrl, and shift keys into up, down, left, right arrow keys.

I wanna do the same thing on my poker2, anyone have any good ideas of how I can do this?

It won't be possible with the FN layer (considering the FN layer is stuck, cannot be changed) but it should be possible with the PN layer.

Read the manual that came with the Poker II.

It is not possible, because the FN and PN keys cannot be reprogrammed, and they don't even send any key code to the computer when they are pressed alone.

So you can neither do it with the built-in programming feature nor with a driver on your PC, sorry.

Maybe you should try the GuiFN layout, which can be done easily on the Poker 2:

+1

I support this. Totally forgot the FN and PN keys cannot be used standalone.

thanks guys, luckly I have 2 pokerX's and 1 poker2, so I'm okay with using my X's even though I like the backlighting and some other features of the poker2, the arrows of the X's are something they should have brought to the poker2.

Completely agree. For me, the Poker X is superior to the II because of its arrow cluster. I use desktop software to program other shortcuts that I need.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

The GuiFN layout, that you can program on the Poker2, provides a nice solution to the problems of the arrows, and of the navigation key in general.

You may find that it has advantages, and causes less problems than hijacking 3 important keys like the Poker X does. It should deserve at least a few minutes of your time so you can see what it's all about.

I do suppose I could re-wire the poker 2 fn key switched with the alt key so its like the pokerX and autohotkey the arrows....
( would just need to add wires from the pcb to the switch terminals....)

hm...

I may test that out when I tear down my poker2 when my new cases come in the mail.

I just read in other thread that FN key could be re-mapped with a DIP switch, if PN could be re-mapped as well it may be possible to configure an arrows cluster ala Poker X.

No, you can remap left Win to become a left FN, but the right FN is stock.

Last page, check the DIP switches, nothing affects right FN or PN.

It is a shame. Truth be told the right arrow cluster that the Poker X has is awesome. If it may be combined with the capacity to program key combinations of the the Poker II would make an awesome keyboard.

Yeah, every work of art comes with its flaws. On the other hand that arrow cluster can be maped like an HHKB using the PN layer, therefore, except if you are 100% sure that the Poker X arrow positions is flawless, maybe you can adapt to some other designs, like the GuiFN layout discussed earlier.

I have to agree the Poker X arrow cluster is pretty sharp now that i am looking at it, it really looks like a big gamepad arrolw cluster.

But don't forget the Poker II can offer much more programmability for the same layout, and being the newer KBC generation of keyboards, the redesign must have covered most of the flaws from the original design.

I still like both, any KBC is a good choice none-the-less.

yeah, good thing I have a poker2 and 2 pokerX's.

:D

I guess I may have to wire in led's to my pokerX that would be great.
