Another lurker [BE]
« on: Wed, 04 November 2015, 06:33:37 »
Hi GeekHack,

QuickDelat here, I'm from Belgium and got in to MK earlier this year whilst lurking around reddit during a calmer period at work. I work as a software developer doing support work. We have some really calm, boring periods, right after a release. I managed to get my hands on a 'cheap' second hand Quickfire TK. And wanted to build my own board for a while.

Last month, after months of looking for parts and waiting, I managed to complete my FaceW. You can see my small buildlog here: http://imgur.com/a/GTxNQ I've been using it as my daily driver since and absolutely love it. (Getting a lot of remarks at work too, "where's you numpad/function row")

I'm not someone who posts a lot but I lurk around in the IC/GB & artisan forums. Really love the work of artisans like Krytone, Binge, Booper, RetroChick, .... So many great artists at work there. Currently I have 4 War of Betrayal artisans, I plan on collecting all 12 to have a complete function row.

Now I just need to wait until someone does a European friendly (damn taxes!) group buy for a custom TKL or 75% and I can replace the TK at home.

Nice work on that board. That blue LED "mixup" was actually the keyboard gods protecting you from the wrong color choice!

Oh, and welcome to Geekhack.

Welcome.  Almost all my hobbies got their genesis during a lull at work.  Haha.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Nice build log - the end results are something to be proud of :)

Any plans for another keyboard?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yes really want to do another build, TKL or 75%, but first need to save some funds for it

Yep combining 3 expensive hobbies doesn't help (MtG; music: vinyl and concerts; keyboards)

Combining two expensive hobbies is bad enough!

Heck even just this keyboard hobby will be the end of me (don't mention fountain pens!).
