Title: Been a While, But I'm Back! (With a Question) :P
Post by: OnTheBrink on Thu, 27 February 2014, 11:37:52
Hey all!

I've been handling some life stuff for a while, so I've been MIA. Mom not sure if anyone remembers me from a bit ago, but if you do--Hi!

So after wearing out my Cherry Red MX and missing out on my custom due to confusion, I'm ready for a new keyboard purchase to add to my small collection.

This time, I'm looking to go in big time! I think I want to finally get a Topre. I was thinking about going for a Happy Hacking 2, but being out of the loop I wanted to check with the community.

Is a HH2 still a solid purchase or should I was it for the CM Topre to drop? Or maybe there is another alternative I should peep?

The HHKB Pro 2 is still a solid purchase, and if it's your wish to try Topre, then it is a good choice. There is also the 55g Realforce for sale for $200 on elitekeyboards site.

I was thinking about the RF also, but the HH looks so nice and crisp. If the RF didn't have that negative space on the top of the keys, I'd probably buy that.

What feels nicer to type on though? I have my Cherry red for gaming, this would be for a crisp typing experience. I'd also probably try gaming with it.

I actually think that space over the function row on the RF makes it unique and looks quite good, but that's just me idk...

yea i think hhkb 2 is the way to go. Even if CMstorm drop the Topre bomb. HHKB will still be an elite Topre Japanese board(from PFU systems)

I game on my HHKB just fine. after a while, and setting the left windows key to control key and delete key into backspace key, i can play well on HHKB. But yea, gaming on Reds is superb i must admit, those switchs are so light and responsive. That said, gaming on HHKb is also nice.

About the arrow key, your neuronal cells just need to fire together and form networks to get used to it. Now, i find my self reflexively reaching for that fn key every time i want to use arrow key on hhkb. So, it is not much of a deal.

I totally agree, That Space above the fn keys is wad makes RF 83 u look so nice!!For the 103 u the right hand top capslock ,numlock, scrollock indicator box gives RF board a look: that 2000-ish retro look, with the subtle logo emanating that feel of high-quality, and elitism.

Feel is always a matter of opinion. Personally, the HHKB has a better feel to it, though the RF is definitely a very nice board to type on. For me, the layout of the HHKB is great, making it easily my number one keyboard. But even then, some people find they don't like it (or make up their mind that they won't without giving it a try...).

If I did decide to get an RF, which one would you recommend? I was looking at the "silent" one.

Again, another personal preference. I prefer the 55g. The Silent is variable, and that would annoy me to death. I think the RF feels best in 55g. But your opinion will differ.
