Why buy from this IC?
It's easy. You don't have to make a throwaway account with them (they will spam your email and all your youtube ads will be for them) and deal with all that.
It might be cheaper. Not sure if I'll split packs or not. We'll see.

Payment will be handled by PayPal invoice and shipping will be limited to orders within the US, at least for round 1. As dorkvader mentioned there's every chance it'll be cheaper for international orderers to buy directly from the aliexpess store. If we hit outrageous discounts I'll revisit international orders.
Quick recommendation, only allow orders in clumps of 100. You will drive yourself insane if you have to do special amounts for people. And make sure you have a little margin for buying over how many you need in case they short you some.
Good lord those SIP sockets are expensive. That's $.22 per switch. I paid $.03 per socket on ebay, What's so special about these?
When are you planning on closing orders? I know I'd love a set of each color and a couple of sets of sip sockets, but don't have the cash right now.
http://natconn.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008825747192/pdtl/PCB-connector/1003011730/SIP-Socket-Connector.htm
According to the datasheet, the "long solder tail" SIP Sockets they have are 0.170 in "for multi-layer boards" that corresponds to 4.3mm. Normal SIP sockets length is .125 in which is 3.175mm
The above manufacturer offers them in pin lengths of 3.94 to 25mm. So we could get ones like this if we wanted:Show Image(http://www.king-cart.com/store/phoenixent/sipmaww.jpg)
Looks like only mill max uses the "[tall] solder tail" nomenclature and the standard seems to be referring to it as "pin length". so if you search for pin length sip sockets, you get ones where the pin length is specified, which are the ones where it deviates from the standard, which is almost always longer. I don't know if that chinese source is good or not but it proves there are other options than mill max.
although they could be great. MOQ is 2000 pieces, which I'm sure we can hit with ease.
Sir, we're already well into the end of October. When are you planning on closing orders? I know I'd love a set of each color and a couple of sets of sip sockets, but don't have the cash right now.
I'm going to look at the order counts on October 8th and compare that with any discount tiers beyond the 1000count that I get from the aliexpress seller (if any). If we've hit the highest discount reasonable, I'll leave orders open for another week while I invoice everyone and then close round 1. If we're no where close, I'll extend it another week or so into October.
If shipping starts out smoothly, I'm going to start taking orders for a second round immediately. The second round will include international orders for definitely.
I am updating the OP with the above information.

Just wondering, is it better to remove the plastic or keep the plastic on the SIP?
I'm contemplating doing this, but it absolutely has to sit flush and be solid. I don't want to have to fix it if its not that durable.
s/October/November/gMy apologies, that was not meant to sound condescending, rather consider it as someone helping you proofread the post :)
Cut me some slack I'm typing this up pre-coffee.

Nuclear,
I need to change my order. I want other 256 sip sockets and get 512 total. I will order one more Korean board. Could you please change my order?
Thanks.
If we're able to get cheaper sip sockets I would like to change my order to include 200 sockets.
Will order once i've figured out how many of each i want :p
Would anyone be willing to buy and ship them to Australia for me? I'll be paying for both shipping costs and of course the LEDs/SIP sockets themselves. Please reply to me here if you'd be willing to :)

At this point, it seems the 3 colors are to test the waters and see how much work it'll end up being. Other colors can be done in a 2nd round.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

That was my recommendation. More colors means more complexity and more potential for problems. Keep it simple, especially for a first timer

hwood and I are looking at having him do international orders for round 1. I don't like discussing things before they're certain but you may not need to make special arrangements.
Is there a quantity where we get a price break on those sip sockets? I would love to get a bunch, but the price is a bit prohibitive. I have been working with the regular ones and I know these will be MUCH easier to work with, but that price is a bit though to swallow. I have been buying the regular ones on ebay for $1.35/120. I know these are nicer, but 10x nicer?
The SIP sockets are really expensive :(

Just a quick status updateNice work dude. I will be adding an order a bit later.
Tiers and suppliers I've heard back from both the AliExpress vendor and you can now see the 5000 and 10000 count prices in the aliexpress shop. We're able to cut a few cents of each LED for all colors if we can get a poop ton of diodes. I also just found the reply from a possible alternative SIP socket vendor in China and am confirming some samples.
GB things I don't yet know the timeline for samples but I expect that I'll be extending the deadline for everything into late November so that I can check them out. I'm also a bit behind on getting the order confirmation and update forms up. Mostly because I've been stuck on Windows and the tools I use for CSV aren't as fun without a proper shell. I'll do my best to get that out tonight along with an FAQ post.
Happy November everyone! If you're in the US make sure you vote and stuff.

Oh, it just occurred to me. You need two SIP sockets to mount one LED.
If you ordered thinking you were ordering in pairs, let me know and I'll just double your order. Should the form change so sockets are ordered in pairs?
EDIT: For now the form now tells you that you need two per LED.

Just put in my order, thanks for setting this up!
there are multiple reports describing the cyan LEDs as "minty", "jade", and "way too green"

Don't care, still want. Options are good.
I'm with you, I also want everyne to be informed. I'm also curious what a checkerboard of cyan and sky blue LEDs will do for the perceived green-ness.
How does this work exactly? Do the colored LEDs just get "inserted" in the SIP socket? I'm building a GON, and am thinking of sourcing the SIP LEDs separately just because of the wider selection of colors offered elsewhere.

there are other guides floating around somewhere, but i think this pretty much covers it

Thanks for the link! I guess the LEDs stay in the SIP sockets just by friction?
Hi so I'm kinda newb about SIP sockets.
If I want it for a 60% keyboard, would it be safe to order 200 or is that overkill?
Also, price is trivial when it comes to having the easiest SIP sockets to work with, as well as build quality. Have you confirmed on the source of SIP sockets?
Buy at least 5-10% extra in case you damage some when removing them from the housing.Hi so I'm kinda newb about SIP sockets.

60% has ~61 keys, so you'd need 122 sockets. I doubt you'd need many extras, if any, as I don't really see many situations in which you'd be breaking these.

So this allows you to swap LED's without desoldering?
So this allows you to swap LED's without desoldering?
So this allows you to swap LED's without desoldering?I have done a couple builds with sip sockets and I tried to document the process as well as I could. You may find useful tips and tricks in there for your builds. In the 75% build I really improved my SMD technique and tried to give tips as best I could. Hopefully this will be useful for people who are doing builds.
So this allows you to swap LED's without desoldering?
Yup. Bear in mind that if you have to swap out the entire switch, you need to desolder the SIP sockets as well as the switch pins. On a board with switch cutouts using SIP sockets removes the need for any desoldering to remove the top case of the switch. Instead of desoldering the LED, you just lift it out with a pliers. :thumb:

Perfect. I'm in for this =)
I shouldn't need to desolder the SIP socket if I am just swapping stems and springs on compatible plates right?

Yes, this is correct :)
I'll take 100 cyan and 100 sky blue.

So the LEDs arrived today! The sky blue are indeed very white-ish but still cast a blue light. I think they'll look alright reflecting on stainless plates. The cyan LEDs looked cyan at first but then I compared them with the sky blue ones and now I have no idea. They look terrible together, which dashes my hopes at checkerboarding them. Putting the two together makes the sky blue look white and the cyan look green.
The pink ones look very pink to my mind. While there are hints of magenta, they're not at all straight up bright purple. Which is pretty awesome. I'm working tomorrow and Monday and have an exam on Thursday so I'm not making any promises to get properly colored photos up until the end of next week but I'll attempt to do so as soon as I can.
I'm still waiting on the SIP samples. Will update again and set a buy deadline when I know what the dilly is there.
Pictuuuuures please !

Potato but as you can see the cyan is slightly green-ish :)
Any updates on the SIP sockets?
I'm hoping to get the best quality ones, cost is trivial for a small order :)
Hey NuclearSandwich, I already signed up for some SIP sockets, but I decided I really like the cyan leds and wanted to add some, should I just put in another order?
Hi,
I'm new to these group buys. I see the SIPs have gone down to .07/ea, but when I go to fill out the order form it says .11/ea. Do I pay later after the final price is adjusted?

Oh yeah, the last day to order is going to be 3 December. Once all orders are in I'll finalize details with the vendor for our numbers. With the help of some community vendors, we've gotten the MIL MAX sockets down to an almost reasonable $0.07/socket. Unless I receive the sample package from the other vendor before the order deadline, we'll stick with mouser for this first run.
Cheers,
Steven!

I have been holding off ordering in hopes you can find cheaper SIP socket pricing. I will buy some LEDs regardless, but I have been waiting for the last minute in the hopes the SIP sockets come in and we can potentially get them for significantly less. :)

This is still the deadline. I haven't gotten anything in the mail from the vendor and I don't want to delay the buy any futthrr. If I do get other SIP sockets from them and they work well we'll use them for round 2. For anyone on the fence, bear in mind that we will likely *never* get the current price for MIL MAX sockets again. With help from a vendor we got the best price we can without getting 320000 sip sockets, a frankly silly amount. The other vendor isn't a real possibility until they deliver or let me know what's up.

For the update form do we just enter the new numbers that we want or just what we want to add? I want to just add another 100 sip sockets to my order.

Get those final orders in! If you'd like to make changes please use the update form in the OP.

Updates with increases are still welcome :) if you were able to submit an order I'll take it. The form will stop taking submissions when I get the final details set up. Since we hit 15k and exchange rates messed with the current listings I've asked the seller for updated quotes.
Just a quick update to say I'm not dead. I was planning on spending some time in the last couple days working on invoices but life had other plans. Also I realized I forgot to figure out shipping estimates for some of the larger order volumes. I'll be honest with y'all invoicing will probably start Monday rather than tomorrow since I work weekends.
Remember international orders will only be invoiced for product and will receive a second invoice from hwood for shipping. I'll be getting hwood the list of international orders as I do invoicing so preparations can be made.
Final quotes from the LED vendor and mouser are in, just need to get shipping in order so I can start collecting money.

Sorry about that. The bottom links are fixed now. However the new order and update forms are off while I work on the invoicing infrastructure. They'll come back online later tonight.
Sorry for being so late to the party, but is there any way that I can order 200 sip sockets and 200 cyan leds? Totally forgot about this buy during exams and such. If not, I completely understand.
Invoicing stopped because I tried to automate it. PayPal API is not as friendly as GitHub's nor is their support human first. So if I can't finish that tonight I'll send out all the invoices by hand 💀.

Ouch...Sorry :-[ Appreciate taking the time to organize this though. Thanks!
All invoices sent! My hat is off to anyone who has the patience to do that manually. I had 79 orders and it totally sucked. For round 2, I'll have to sort out an entirely API based workflow because of PayPal's inflexibility.
If you paid as of the "generated at" time on the order list, you should be marked as paid. If there are errors with your invoice. DON'T PAY IT, and shoot me a PM. :thumb:
I was never invoiced for my new updated order nor was I for the old existing one as well T_T.
Lol for the life of me steven I can't remember what I updated my order too so Im going to assume that the invoice you sent me is correct. I could have sworn I asked for more sip sockets.
Edit: I found my own post I asked to add 100 to my order but that wasn't reflected in the invoice you sent me.

Paid. You've put so much work into this and we are all so thankful.
Which is why I especially feel bad asking: is the address in the paypal invoice the address you have on file?

Yes! I copied and pasted addresses from the form into the PayPal invoice. I will be using the address I attached at the invoice and not any shipping address requested when paying the invoice. If the address sent with the invoice was incorrect then please fill out the update form in the OP with an updated address and leave the LED / SIP fields blank so I know those didn't change.
If you didn't have a shipping address on your invoice it's because I think your order is international. If you're in the US and there was no shipping address on your invoice, PM me.
International orders, hwood34 or I will confirm your addresses before shipping.
Keep the questions coming!

Huh, was there something about the invoice that caused it to get buried or do you just have too much email?
I have to admit that I hate all of the 'paid' responses to these threads.
but...
PAID!!! :P
Hoff u make Bank you should pay it already  LOL. I still haven't paid mine yet T_T.
Did u get my message btw Hoff?
I'll say it once. I don't mind "Just Paid" announcements, but I don't rely on them to update the thread either. I'd suggest that instead of paid, select some nice emoji that properly express your feelings.
When y'all are done paying your invoices, I get to pay two real big ones. 💸💸💸

I'm not releasing any more specific information about participant geography than I have. Just start posting meetup threads. Even if it's just a couple geekhackers getting a coffee it's still super fun times!

On the other hand the LA area is so huge I don't see why they don't have enough people for a meet up. Maybe it's that high nerd ratio in the bay haha
Can you export just the zip codes or something? Then somebody could import that into Google maps and we could all see how many folks are around us. Could be fun.How many from my area?

LA area is huge and they have a few meetups but it's a pain to get anywhere on LA from anywhere else.
I have a question. I have no clue how to put these in my keyboards. Brand new mechanical keyboards and just want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I actually start taking things apart.
I've read up about the SIP sockets and they are very convenient (<-don't know why that word convenient looked so weird when I was spelling it). I really like the idea of being able to swap out led colors as I choose. I know where they are installed in. Inside the MX switch which I know I am going to have to open the switch up to access the led placement.
So I'm getting a poker II soon. I want to put these SIP sockets in so I can swap led colors to my liking when I get new keycaps. The question is do I have to desolder everything? Like the switch and all to install the SIP socket. Well I didn't even know these existed before so I got the poker II with led backlighting. I know I'm going to have to desolder the leds on those switches but do I have to completely desolder the MX switch from the pcb and plate? Or can I just desolder the led out and install the SIP sockets?
I don't know what to do. Help? :(

you will need to desolder everything in order to get the switch off the plate then to open the switch up and install the sip sockets
Just fyi, nuclear, I've seen the invoice. I can't pay at the moment because PayPal is being difficult and locked my account when it was an error on their end. Long story short, I've been fighting with them for weeks now so I'm not sure when they'll cooperate. :(

Thanks for the head's up. Hopefully they relent soon. Your order won't be cancelled.
Likewise anyone who hasn't yet paid and is not literally about to do so, please PM me letting me know that you still intend to pay (and when if you know) so I can make sure you're still in the game. It will help me out a whole lot <3.

How many people will it take not to pay for this buy not to go through? I see there are lots of pending invoices due.

If you want to place an order. Now is a good time to do it because I'm going to finish dinner and process the incoming ones.
Awesome. Thanks for getting this rolling so quickly! How long do you think shipping from the vendors will take?
If you want to place an order. Now is a good time to do it because I'm going to finish dinner and process the incoming ones.
All orders up to now have been processed and invoiced. I've resumed contact with the LED vendor and will be placing the order as soon as I can.

Looks like 2 new orders, and the previous unpaid invoices are still unpaid. The LED costs should be covered by the extra money from all the sips that were paid for, now if all the unpaid invoices remain unpaid, do we fall below a pricing tier for the SIPs?

Tiers are fixed. If invoices go unpaid it just means I'll be buying more SIP sockets than I intended to. It'll suck for my own finances and anyone who defaults without letting me know will be banned from any of my future buys but it won't ruin me or stall the group buy.
If that happens, let me know. I'm interested in more sip sockets, but don't currently have funds. By the time the buy ends though, I'll be able to pick up an extra 2-300.

Hokay. I'll let everyone know when add-on orders are open. At the moment I don't have good organization around re-invoicing folks who've already paid.
Been busy with house guests over the holidays and focusing on shipping negotiations with the LED vendor. As soon as they send me the updated purchase order and shipping charge I can place the order.
Sorry I keep saying there will be updates and then not doing anything. A family emergency took all my attention last night and today. I'll update the list as soon as I have some time. Use this chance to pay, or at least give me a head's up that you aren't going to!

I haven't sent out the warnings to those unpaid (well I sent one) but I have sent payment to the vendor! Which means our LEDs should ship to me next week.:D I can't wait to get mine! Especially since I am getting 2 keysets that will match with the LEDs well.

Warning PMs have been sent to the remaining unpaid users (less those who've contacted me already)
I can't say that getting banned from my future buys is much of a threat since this is my first one but I'm not leaving this community any time soon and I have cool **** on my list of things I want to do here. But Group buys come with commitment and are not a trivial consumer act. If you commit to one and ultimately demonstrate that you can't be relied upon, I don't see a way that I can allow your participation to risk future group buys. I understand that **** happens, people get busy, checking the forum for slow moving group buys becomes arduous, but work with me and let me know what's up. That's all I need.
How long do you think until we have those SIP sockets in our hands? :D

Also for the love of algebra pay your invoices!Once the sorting is through, if you have some extras I would love to buy some more!
Someone 0'd out their order on the 10th but put a 0 for their geekhack username as well. -_-

There will be an extras round where folks who ordered can add on, but I'm working the tooling to better support multiple orders and invoices, which my current poopy SQLite database sure doesn't handle. I've done this entire group buy with shell scripts and ruby scripts and am starting to tidy those up into actual programming.

How long do you think until we have those SIP sockets in our hands? :D
Short answer: I have no idea.
Long answer: SIP sockets are going to get ordered the moment I've confirmed the shipment of LEDs has left China so they arrive at roughly the same time. The first thing I'm doing when everything is in hand is sorting and counting out LEDs. Given the size of the LED order I expect this to take 7-10 days of realtime (actual sorting can only happen in evenings or on days off work). Once the LEDs are sorted, I'll start sorting SIP sockets. It shouldn't take much time at all since they come in long sticks.
Once everything is sorted, I'll send the big big order. Then I'll bag international orders for hwood34 to double check and send. After the big order and international orders are out, I'll parcel the US orders as quickly as I'm able. Depending on how well the sorting phase goes, this should take a maximum of 7 days realtime. Tracking numbers will be PM'd to participants when their order is parceled. The post office is close by so I usually get things dropped off the day after they're packed.
So from the LED arrival date the process should be
9 - 12 days sorting
1 - 2 days prepping large and international orders
4 - 7 days shipping US orders
2 - 4 days in US Post
Total 16 - 25 days from the day I receive LEDs. The vendor should be shipping LEDs this week. I'll update everyone with that info when I have it.
Disclaimer: I have made up all the numbers above based on enthusiasm and past experience counting and sorting thousands of coins by hand. They are not a "schedule" and far from guaranteed. You can expect regular updates during the sorting process of similar detail and regularity as I posted during the ordering and collection phase of this group buy.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wouldn't a gram scale with a piece count feature save you more hassle than what the scale costs? That's just a ridiculous amount of counting to be done by hand.
Ooh yeah, I might just do that. I kinda forgot these existed. As a computer person I'm naturally distrustful of tech that uses side effects to perform a task, but it might work really well. I'll go nab one and test it out.

Id assume it would be pretty accurate. As long as you got one that has resolution to at least the hundredth of a gram.

the piece count feature would just be a luxury option i would assume. I own gram and milligram scales, I'll weigh out some leds right now. it should be as easy as getting the weigh of one piece, 10 pieces, etc and doing the math yourself. a decent gram scale would then run you around $20 from amazon.
Just a head's up everyone, I've got some work travel coming up mid February. I'll be gone from the 11 - 21. I think that's likely to land right in the middle of the sort/ship phase but I'm going to do my best to get the international orders to hwood34 before I go.

There will be a sorting party for sure, but I'm not comfortable with giving others access to my home / the product while I'm not around.

So the LEDs are set to arrive by February 10, the Tuesday before I fly out. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to get the big and international order shipped in those two days but if at all possible I will do so.
Sorting Party will be the weekend I get back (21-22 February). If you're not radio_killah and you want to be at the sorting party, shoot me a PM in a week.
I'm going to go ahead and place the SIP socket order. I realize the timing draws this buy out an extra week and a bit but you can bet I'll be monstrous about shipping when I return.
Yeah, I think all my stuff is coming by 2nd week March, between the red scarf, Miami, and the LEDs. All I have to do now is order some switches, and I will be set for my rs96.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Q9ImmKY.png)

Awesome! Thanks for the updates, and neither of my builds are taking place until March anyways, so this leaves a nice time window anyways. :thumb:

I appreciate the optimism, but realistically I don't think you will actually get stuff out before you get back. You will probably be wiped from your trip the first couple days back, so I don't think people should really expect orders to be shipped before march first. That's my feeling. You will have a crap ton of sorting and that **** is going to take forever.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Q9ImmKY.png)

You will have a crap ton of sorting and that **** is going to take forever.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Q9ImmKY.png)
Nuclear, are the LEDs still expected to arrive on 10th? Any updates with the SIP sockets? Thanks!

I'm wondering this as well. Idk if he's gonna have time to ship anything befoer he leaves on his trip. Based on the timeline, I don't think they will be here by the 10th. The message sent to Nuclear said they will begin production on the order, meaning they did not have that quantity in stock to sell. Regular shipping from China takes minimum of 1 week, to 4-5 weeks at times.
Nuclear, did they provide a tracking number? Do you know if it was sent epacket from China, etc?

I don't mind if he doesn't ship it out before his trip. I just wanted a rough timeline of when I can expect the LEDs and the SIP sockets so I can finish my keyboard :D.
Wow this buy is taking a lot longer than I would've thought when I saw it come up. I ordered the LEDs directly from aliexpress and got them within like 3 weeks, since I didn't want to wait to finish up my projects.Yeah, LEDs and SIP sockets, order them after the deadline, have them in 2-3 weeks, take a week to sort them uinge a scale to measure them, print labels, then you are done.
Atleast we got a really good deal on the SIP sockets for this.

Yup, the SIPs are really the only thing that's important to me, LEDs can be had anywhere.
I feel like I shouldve ordered more sip sockets, haha.I bet most people are.

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates recently. I've been mega-swamped with work leading up to my trip. There will be more SIP sockets available for purchase before shipments start. I just need to update my tools to support add-on orders. I had to boost orders to meet our nice price tier.
This has taken longer than I anticipated, but hopefully the point of the group buy is still to save money with bulk ordering. I'm not sure I'm up to doing another round though, it is *exhausting*.
If you have any other questions for me please let me know.

Its all good dude. This is to be expected. GBs are a **** TON of work. Honestly, I have avoided doing them because they are way more work than I am able to do at this point. If the progress has not moved in a month or two, it will be an average GB. :)
If this wasn't clear by the lack of jubilant screams of happiness, the LEDs didn't arrive yesterday but should be arriving any day now.

LEDs arrived last night but too late for me to do much about it. I won't be on GeekHack a lot this week but please PM me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sweet. Hopefully the sip sockets will be here by the time you get back? Have a safe trip!
Hi all. Back from my trip. It was grand. I'll be sorting starting after work tomorrow. If anyone wants to come by and help Monday works better than tomorrow.
Just wanted to chime in here and report that I used LEDs from this vendor (these actually (http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/High-Quality-and-High-lightness-100pcs-2x3x4-Rectangular-square-type-sky-blue-color-led-beads-brightness600/629743_2022772817.html)) on my Octagon 75% build this weekend (no sip sockets) and they look amazing -- super bright. I had no duds. They fit perfectly in the space on a Cherry MX switch and were otherwise really easy to work with. Couldn't be happier. You guys are in for a treat.

I forgot to post an update when I placed the order, but yeah SIP sockets arrived while I was away and are here.

radio_killah stopped by before dinner yesterday to pick up his stuff, so that's one order delivered.
I plan on it don't worry! I even have a nice scale I can use.radio_killah stopped by before dinner yesterday to pick up his stuff, so that's one order delivered.

Speaking of sorting, adult.app (aka Sunrise Calendar) reminds me that I am attending Accessibility Camp on Saturday so the weekend sorting party will be Sunday sometime. PM me for location. There will be coconut water and cold brewed coffee available.

Are you guys weighing the LEDs in order to count them? If so what types of scales are you using, brands and models?
Got in a good couple hours of sorting. There is still a lot left to do though. If you are in the bay area and can spare a few hours let Steven know. The more people the better! :thumb:
Are you guys weighing the LEDs in order to count them? If so what types of scales are you using, brands and models?
Neither of us had scales with high enough accuracy lol. We resorted to just counting them and separating by hand.

That's crazy. A scale with .01 accuracy is like $20. Imagine the time savings.

Yeah it would have definitely helped but we only had a limited amount of time together so we just decided to do it by hand.

So how did the LEds arrived packed in bulk? by the thousand?
I kind of forgot if I ordered any on here.
Alright. In that case I will keep an eye on this thread. Put me on the waiting list for 100 cyan + 100 Sky Blue + 100 pink + SIP sockets.I kind of forgot if I ordered any on here. Not by my records. There will be addons after next week.
Sounds good!
I can't speak for everyone here but I wouldn't mind if you don't leave GDC early. I can wait a few more days :)
Do you know when international shipments will be sent to hwood?I'm on spring break all this week so if they get sent to me before Saturday I could get everyone's stuff out quickly
Thanks!

Back from GDC. It was incredible this year. I had conversations with hundreds of humans and gave out thousands of Octocat stickers. I was hoping to take a few days off after GDC and just get this all done but things are mad busy and I won't get to take a full day off until next week.
Now I'm back the goal is getting LEDs out the door as quickly as I can. Tomorrow hwood34 will get the final international orders list for round 1. It needs some final love that I won't get to tonight.
Tomorrow evening I'll pack as many, possibly all, of the international orders into a box so it can go out the following day. Whether or not it ships Wednesday I'll update here.
Once international orders are en route to be proxied I'll start fulfilling the US orders. Individuals will get a tracking number via PM when their order ships. I'll try to update the thread as I go with status.
As always PM with questions. There is light at the end of this tunnel?
Everyone with international orders should have received a PM from me.
I'm finally home and the box with the international orders was dropped off at the post office this afternoon!
US distribution will continue Monday and Tuesday. Extras will be sometime in April so all you folks asking, sit tight.
Cheers,
Steven!/nuclearsandwich

Finished up shipping all orders in bubble mailers. Turns out the boxes I got were a little small, so I ordered some more through amazon so they should be here by Wednesday. Then I'll just have to weigh everything, invoice, and print out labels

So I just realized why Dreamre asked about tracking now, I accidentally said I shipped the bubble mailers, I meant packed up. But I should be done and hopefully get everything shipped by the end of the week

I'll be getting back home friday night. The boxes are there waiting, so I don't see any reason I couldn't get all these out Saturday morning :thumb:

What's going on?
Normally, my job is awesome. I work at a highly distributed company with a schedule that is generally very accommodating.
However, since the start of March, a number of pretty awesome but very time consuming projects have increased the general amount of time I need to spend working the schedule of a normal human. Because I'm not used to working this way, I'm also twice as exhausted as I normally am. So even on nights when I have physical time to work on sorting and packing, I don't have the willpower to get it done.
Today I've got a proper day (almost) completely free from work and this is what I've managed to get done:
1 order was picked up by a helpful sorting volunteer
19 of US orders are sorted and packed, and just need bubble mailers.
26 orders are sorted and need to be assembled and packed, they need flat rate boxes because of the SIP sockets.
9 orders are odd amounts that need to be sorted still.
If I can make it to the post office today, get more bubble mailers, and then get back, set up postage, it's possible I could get those 19 out today. But it's more likely that I'll drop them off tomorrow morning on the way to work.
The plan for the remaining orders is to pack them up and get them ready to send. Hopefully I can get boxes on the first post office trip.
To all the international people, I'm stopping by the post office on my way home to pick up the customs forms. I'll fill em out tonight and everything should be shipped out tomorrow

I didn't make it to the post office before the train this morning. Another attempt will be made Wednesday.
19 orders are packed and just need to be shipped. Because they're parcel post I won't have tracking numbers until I actually take them to the post office. I will do my best to associate tracking number with GeekHacker but I make no guarantees. It will be early. -_-
13 orders are assembled and packed and need to be put in their flat rate boxes, which I now have, and have the labels printed. This will maybe happen tomorrow after work. Maybe.
The remaining orders need to be packed still. That will happen after work tomorrow.
ZzzZZZz for now.
^ that right there is how you communicate with your GB. Delays suck but they happen. Properly updating status makes all the difference.

Yep. NS has done a splendid job of keeping us up to date on this, props to you NS. :thumb:
Personally, I'm in no rush to receive these, so I'm not fussed. That may not be the case for everyone though, obviously.
Also, I hope work calms down for you soon. Sounds incredibly hectic.
After shopping for LEDs yesterday, I wish I had gotten in on this one. Those colors look great

UPDATE: due to a miscommunication on my part we don't actually have tracking information for the the packages that shipped today. They're scheduled to arrive Monday 6 April. If anyone doesn't receive their package by the following Monday, I will send a tracked replacement package.
All remaining US orders will be shipped with tracking next week.
Ahh can't wait for mine! Now to figure out how to do SIP sockets and stickers hahaSkip stickers. They don't do anything and they take way too long. Trust me... :)

I have not received mine yet.
I'll try this again at some point, as photographing LEDs is usually an exercise in frustration, but here's a rough idea of how these LEDs compare. I'd mostly pay attention to the glow halos around the LED bulbs.
The first is "pink" vs. the standard "purple" (You can also buy UV Purple LEDs, those are even more blue toned):Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/emAFuYn.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/5c1OD6A.jpg)
And these are: "Sky Blue", my previously owned turquoise ("Ice blue"), and my previously owned "Cyan" (more like jade):
Sky Blue / Cyan / Ice Blue:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/ztMBDz8.jpg)
Sky Blue / Ice Blue / Cyan:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/5vzGfj7.jpg)
To put this in perspective, Ice Blue already looks very cyan-green when installed in large numbers on a keyboard. So in that respect, Cyan looks a cold shade of VERY green, and I anticipate Sky Blue to look more green than what I currently have on my keyboards and call "turquoise". I was hoping Sky Blue would be less green than my Ice Blue, but it seems to go the other way around. Still a very nice color to experiment with. The Pink LEDs will go great with purple anodized plates and cases, as the normal Purple LEDs are usually too cold toned to match.
Any updates on SIP socket shipments for CONUS?
Could someone with extras sell me some sky blue and pink to Canada?

Apologies for the temporary death. Work is unrelenting. While the DDoS has calmed I'm still deeply mired in a lot of projects that are preventing me from wrapping this up. For most of March and so far April, if I'm awake, I'm working.
The last of the US orders need shipping labels and packing before they can go out. I worked from home yesterday and today in the hope that I could make that happen but so far no dice. Tomorrow I'll be in the office and Thursday is still up in the air. I'm going to try my damnedest to get these out before Saturday.
It feels like the home stretch, it *is* the home stretch, but I'm barely afloat. Those of you with PMs. I've not forgotten you but it'll take me some more days to get to them. <3

As a matter of fact 15 orders shipped today. I also updated the group buy status list for the first time in an age. Since the database isn't part of the Git repository I've not been able to update it on the road. Not reflected is the shipping status of international orders. I need to double check on those with hwood34.

At this point I've responded to all relevant PMs that I could find about this GB. If I didn't respond to yours, send it again unlessitsaboutextrasinwhichcasereadbelowThanks Nuclear Sandwich. I wasn't in this GB but I certainly will keep an eye on the extras. I need them. :P
Extras. As you might have noticed: I'm mad busy lately. I'm not in a place where I feel good taking on extra orders right now and I don't anticipate being in a good place until June at the earliest. Our vendor participant should be getting their LEDs Wedesday or Thursday after which point they'll have a good stock. When extras are available, they will not be at the original group buy price. Since was my first group buy there were a number of costs I didn't anticipate, nothing major, but it all adds up with ~80 participants. When ordering relaunches, there will be an actual webzone rather than a google form for orders.
That's all for today. Thanks err'one!
I'm sorting the last five orders! As long as I get these all boxed and to the post office with the rest today will be a good day.
How to track my international order?
Can u tell me which site is searchable?
Finally had time to even take a look at my package
All my SIPs are here. Have 2 extra Pink LEDs, and missing 8 sky blues
Not a big deal for me since I rounded up to have extras.

Bums me out that I shorted you. If you order extras make sure to note that and you'll get a discount on your future order.
Who are the resellers of these btw? You told us some vendors picked these up?
Still have not recieved my order in Canada... :(
Still have not recieved my order in Canada... :(PM'd, though it looks like most orders have arrived by now
I'd be interested in picking up some SIP sockets if anyone has any spare to sell, stopped looking at this GB when it was US only and didn't realize international orders became available until it was to late.
I mayjust have to buy from mouser directly as the Vendor who picked these up seems to be going nuts on the price and marking it up a ****load over mousers prices let alone this GB's.

Which vendor is this? I only need like 20 more, not a huge quantity, so I'll have to suck it up with the price.

Looks like they're up on MechanicalKeyboards.com (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1269)
Awesome! Thanks!

If your looking to buy the link in the op is cheaper from my calculations, i did not check shipping tho.
Buy at least 5-10% extra in case you damage some when removing them from the housing.Hi so I'm kinda newb about SIP sockets.
If I want it for a 60% keyboard, would it be safe to order 200 or is that overkill?
Also, price is trivial when it comes to having the easiest SIP sockets to work with, as well as build quality. Have you confirmed on the source of SIP sockets?
60% has ~61 keys, so you'd need 122 sockets. I doubt you'd need many extras, if any, as I don't really see many situations in which you'd be breaking these.
Good advice !
I updated my order.
Thank you swill
I'm looking for approx 120 cyan 2x3x4mm leds if anyone has some they'd like to sell, thanksThere is the link in the OP saying where he got them from

Don't remember how color accurate this picture was but here are the sky blue leds on a nerd tkl.
Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to mech kbs and new to GH.
I'm trying to gather parts for my first custom keyboard, and this group buy caught my eye - but alas, I was months too late.
Those sky blue LEDs are fan-freaking-tastic and I'd love to get my hands on ~100 of them. if anyone has extras, please don't hesitate to PM me.
Thank you!

Just FYI, you can buy the LEDs directly from the aliexpress store.

That's where I got mine. Shipping was like 2-4 weeks IIRC.
Two remedy shipments went out today.
It's going to be be a long while before I can do a second round or more fix more mistakes. I'll do my best to keep in touch with those of you I owe. Please keep PMing me if you don't hear from me every couple weeks.
I'm tempted to lock the thread later this week to signify that I'm no longer actively checking it. Is that too much?

Anybody interested in starting a Round 2 for these super cool LEDs? Otherwise I'll just place an order to supply my needs (35 x Sky Blue + 5 Pink).
- Sky Blue - pictures (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=64915.msg1549366#msg1549366)
- Pink - pictures (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=64915.msg1544113#msg1544113)
- Cyan - pictures (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=64915.msg1546646#msg1546646)
The downside is that I'll end up with 100 of each because of minimum order requirements by the seller.

Honestly, I don't think LED GBs are worth it, unless it's actually impossible to buy them in small quantities. These LEDs are already readily available to buy on AliExpress.
We shouldn't give anyone the burden of having to sort and ship thousands and thousands of LEDs for what may be a negligible price difference.
The main motivation for the original group buy seems to've been avoiding aliexpress's somewhat dubious history of international shipping and the fact that once they have your email address you're pretty much never not going to get email from them.
The former seems to be much improved and if you're ordering from the same seller that the group buy used you'll probably be just fine.
The LEDs ultimately shaved 2-3 cents off the individual price but we burned plenty of that savings in re-shipping. Also counting those little ****ers is time consuming and error-prone even with a counting scale.
SIP Sockets are a great thing to try and find a deal for. LEDs, not so much.
Is this GB going to be re-open soon?
Thank you for the tip Mito, but I'd want to get some sip sockets.

No problem pal, here's (http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Mill-Max/311-43-164-41-001000/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs%2fSh%2fkjph1tjJZclYmfaNPJ3I9Z5RDf1I%3d) the SIP sockets' source. The manufacturer is Mill Max but this link features the store that sells them.
100 unities would be ~$4.20 + shipping and apparently there are two models available right now.
The version nuclear provided was this one on the link above, (Long Tail) but there are other options as you can see here (http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/273/065-259662.pdf) and here (http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogusd/648/1790.pdf).
Thank you again, you are very kind, which option is better for PCB mounted switches?

I don't have pictures of your setup, nor enough experience to give an exact advice. However, thinking about it and creating some scenarios in my head I came to the conclusion that you should be good with either. It doesn't really matter. The tail is long enough for you to solder the SIPs, but aren't extremely long to the point they could potentially pierce through the bottom of your switches. I don't know what case are you using, nor how your setup is but I believe you should be good with both options. I'd get the longer ones (standard ones used on the buy, aka Long Tail), as you could trim the legs a little bit if they become an issue when installing.
Perhaps some more experienced users could give some more precise inputs? It would be much apreciated.
The board I want to install them on is this one, if the sip legs can be cutted I would get the long ones, I think.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/n0pYCkg.jpg)

Very nice board mate, that's gonna look incredible.
Just what I thought, I think both of them should work fine. I don't have a picture right now (because I'm on mobile) showing the differences between PCB x Plate mounted boards. But it's very clear for me that is the gap inside the switch that matters, since the SIPs go inside them and they (the switches) are soldered on the PCB anyway.
Thank you Mito, you rock, I will try the longest ones, I'll back here to report the findings for anyone interested.
